Beyond the Walls of Sleep

Slowly but surely, the nightmares have been chipping away at the mental defenses of the crew.

Even those who attempt to stay awake to avoid the nightmares find themselves too on-edge to completely concentrate their defenses.

And the Nightmare King has not been idle during all this, no. He has been slowly feeding off the crew, gathering his strength so that he may yet break free from his prison.

And he now uses that new found power, reaching out to affect the minds of the crew even in the waking world. Even those avoiding sleep will find themselves drifting in and out of their nightmares, bringing everyone a taste of despair.

After all, no one can escape the grasp of the King of Nightmares.

No one.

[ooc: OH NOEZ. As you can guess, the Nightmare King is getting stronger. As such, the crew will start experiencing waking dreams. These are much more subtle than the normal nightmares, however, and are more so depressing and surreal than actually brain-breaking. Mostly they would be miserable versions of the character's normal life, or perhaps even their life on the ship.]

"[Kate, you are having some sort of waking nightmare,]" Jonas explained. "[I just woke up from one myself. This is not really happening, Kate, and you need to wake up.]"

She took a step back, blinking. What? No, she was at home in New York. But Jonas never been to her house, none of them had yet. She felt more comfortable meeting up at the Clubhouse.

Wait...

No she was on the ship, and New York was gone.

"I... what? Something's not right."

"[That is correct,]" Jonas said, now able to move more easily. He began brushing away the stone covering him like it was so much chalk dust. "[You need to wake up. I assume that this is the Nightmare King's doing, and I doubt whatever he wants you to be dreaming is anything that you want. Wake up.]"

Kate placed a brief hand to her face, "Oh god. I wasn't even sleeping." This was bad, seriously bad if he could do this now. She then drew her hands to her sides, the hands curling into fists.
Wake up! Wake up!

The surroundings dissolved away to be the ship corridor again, and she sagged near one of the organic walls with relief.

"God, I'm so sorry. We have to stop this."

Jonas nodded and offered her a hand up. "[Something like this happened to me earlier. I have been looking for everyone else since then. Considering the power levels and abilities of the people on this ship, this could turn very bad very quickly."

She accepted his hand with thanks, and nodded at that as she straightened up again.

"Yeah. Major understatement there. Going to look into that training the Magical staff were suggesting. Bet Billy already knows some of it."

"[Very likely. We should go find him and Cassie and make sure they are apprised of the new situation.]" Jonas looked uncomfortable. "[The Scarlet Witch is already aware of the situation, so I do not believe we need to worry that she will start warping reality, even she even currently has access to that power.]"

Kate paled at the idea of Scarlet Witch warping reality, "God no. That's the last thing we need now on top of what the Nightmare King's doing." She agreed on locating Cassie to give her a heads up.
