Sooo...Meet-y

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their number. After the recent revelation, many of them were even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Brainiac 5 and Sensor were set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

Jason frowned a bit and stepped back. He didn't want the kid getting upset and attacking. He wasn't going to be tempted to shoot the damn kid in the head and end the headache. No one on board would ever forgive him for that one. So he stayed silent and let the two talk.

Damian frowned. "That would explain why you're wearing the wrong mask. Also why you're trusting him. He's insane, Grayson. He belongs in prison, maybe even Arkham."

"He's not from when you remember, either," Dick said, keeping his voice level. No need to go for soothing. Wouldn't work, he didn't think. "And, frankly, we run around in our underwear and masks and fight the likes of the Joker and the Scarecrow and the freaking end of the world, Damian. I'm not sure that says anything good about any of our sanities."

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"He recognized me. That means he's tried to kill me. Whatever else he's done." Damian glared through him at Jason. "You're soft, Grayson. You probably would have forgiven him even his latest murders. But he isn't trustworthy."

"I don't know that you're trustworthy, either," he pointed out. "But you're apparently Robin, which means someone figured you were worthy of that title." And since Dick was the one who originated said title, he's got a fair idea of what it takes to earn it. "And in case you didn't notice, there's more going on here than our own petty squabbles. We need to pull together, not drive each other apart."

[identity profile] reallyiscrazy.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hold on a damn second." He glared over at Damian from behind Dick's shoulder, completely using his older brother as a shield. So he wasn't tempted to strangle the brat who he was sure should have a few more holes in him than he currently did. "What murders are you talking about?"

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"They may not have happened yet. You and your sidekick decided to attempt to replace Batman and me." He still had unhappy feelings about Scarlet. "Of course, your method involved murder and twitter. Too bad you're really fairly pathetic. We stopped you easily and Gordon arrested you."

He could have asked what the hell Twitter was, but Dick decided not to. After all, he could find out later. From someone else. Maybe. "Sounds like all the more reason not to try pushing Jason when you're already concerned about his sanity," Dick pointed out, relieved to hear that Jason had lived through his dive from the bridge.

Not that it made him feel any less guilty about apparently having been the one doing the throwing. "Assuming, of course, that we can even get back home in the first place."

[identity profile] reallyiscrazy.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait wait.. Did you just say I had a sidekick? What?!" He shook his head and glared. "I'm crazy but I'm not that crazy. Plus there's only one sidekick I'd ever take, and he's not biting." He was talking about Tim of course, but he wasn't going to say that bit out loud. "Plus what the hell does Twitter have to do with any of this?"

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Damian frowned. "What are you talking about, pushing Jason? I don't know why you took her on, but she didn't deserve it. But yes, you are that crazy. And still dying your hair, apparently." Though where on the ship he was getting hair dye, Damian didn't know. "I don't know what Twitter has to do with it. It was your insane sidekick who did it."

Dick crouched down in front of Damian, face serious. It wasn't patronizing. Or, at least, it wasn't meant to be. But Damian was quite a bit shorter than him and that meant towering over him (for certain values of 'tower') might not be the best way to get his attention. "I mean, the Jason you're talking about? Isn't this one. Not yet. And I, personally, would really rather never see him be that Jason." It felt like a cop out, talking about it with Jason right there. But maybe it would help the middle Bat-brother to see how serious Dick was about this. "It means that things can still change. Nothing is set in stone here."

[identity profile] reallyiscrazy.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Dick's words made Jason's heart ache in ways he hadn't ever remembered feeling. But Damian's words hurt. Dye. Right. He ran a hand through his hair and frowned. Maybe it'd stay a bit longer, until he can find hair dye at least. He'd have to check possessions. If there was some in there he was set, if not.. well he'd have to go back to being the red head. Yeah that would suck.

"Her.. I'm telling ya this is sounding more and more like the kids whacked out imagination. I'd never take a female sidekick, or a sidekick that wasn't Drake. Everyone knows that." He glared at the kid and looked away. He wasn't going to comment on Dick's words.

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Change what?" Damian said. "Not let him die to begin with all those years ago? I think it's a little too late for that."

He looked over at Jason. "Drake's far from my favorite person, but he'd never work for you. Even he isn't that crazy. And why would I imagine this?"

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-03 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
He gritted his teeth, not wanting to reach up and rub at his temples. "Much as I wish I could, time travel isn't my thing. So I'll just work with what I have now." Which meant dealing with Jason the way he was now and hoping to be able to mend their relationship somewhat. Maybe actually having family could keep Jason from sliding further toward complete madness.

[identity profile] reallyiscrazy.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Jason twitched a bit and before he could stop himself he was right up towering over the kid. "Tim is not fucking crazy! You watch that mouth of your or I'll watch it for you." He balled his fists and wanted to badly to smack the kid in the face. Sure he didn't really like Tim, at least not publicly, but he wasn't going to let this snot bad mouth him. And calling Tim crazy? Well that was just going way too far.

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Damian looked up at him calmly and touched the hilt of his sword. "Just try it," he said. "I'd love the opportunity to take you down."

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-04 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Jason." There was some censure in Dick's tone, but mostly just a warning not to let Damian get to him. The kid was obviously spoiling for a fight and he had a weapon where Jason didn't. "Tim's not crazy," he said levelly. He didn't know what all Tim had been through, though. "You may not understand what he does, but that doesn't make him crazy." He paused, then added, "At least, not any crazier than the rest of us."

[identity profile] reallyiscrazy.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"If anyone in this families crazy, it's that little snot right there." Jason glared but stepped back. The sword didn't scare him, the fact that this brat would come at him and might hit Dick did. He was the only one able to harm his brother.

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-05 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Damian opened his mouth to explain exactly how Drake was acting insane, then thought better of it. Either Grayson would find out in the future, or he wouldn't. It wasn't important here and now. "I thought you hated Drake, Todd. And honestly, calling me insane? I really don't believe you've any room to talk."

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-05 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"He's not the one charging around with the 'hit first and ask questions later' attitude," Dick pointed out, that same note of censure directed at Damian this time. "You don't know what's going on. Instead, you just went off on your own assumptions and could have really hurt someone without knowing what is going on."

Noooot that Dick himself hadn't done similarly when he was Damian's age, but the worst they would have gotten off of him was a bruising. Damian wasn't big, but a gut shot could still easily kill. "Even if you haven't been Batman's partner for long, you should know that going off like that gets people hurt or killed." Yes, slight reference to Jason there. Couldn't really be helped, though. And Jason had to know that not knowing enough had definitely been part of the problem there.

[identity profile] reallyiscrazy.livejournal.com 2009-12-05 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He crossed his arms over his chest and looked away, muttering to himself under his breath.

"I don't hate Tim. He's just a little annoyance." He'd let Dick lecture Damian and a part of it hit home for him too, but he'd ignore that. He was trying to change here.

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Damian raised an eyebrow at Todd. "You shove a batarang through the chest of annoyances?"

He turned to Grayson and scowled. "I won't apologize. You'd do the same if you saw the Joker or Two-Face."

Oh dear God, he was getting a headache from this. Jason...was not going to have a fun time in the Senorium once Dick was actually finished processing. He'd probably let it pass, eventually, but not before a little 'family time' and the age old family tradition of brothers beating the hell out of each other.

"But I wouldn't be going for the kill to start with, either." And yeah, he'd react much the same way, probably. Nobody said Dick was perfect. "And sometimes there are good reasons to wait, observe and see what's actually going on before you commit to a course of action. It's part of what being a detective is all about."

[identity profile] reallyiscrazy.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Jason flinched a bit and looked away from the two of them. He hadn't really forgotten about injuring Tim, but it'd been in the moment. He couldn't take it back, and apologizing to the kid, well it wouldn't do any good here. It hadn't happened for him yet.

"Just so it's out there. If the Joker does show up, I've got dibs." He didn't look back at Dick when he said it. His brother should know that he had issues with the Joker. There was no need to bring them up. If he got the chance to kill the damn clown, he would.

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wasn't going to kill him," Damian grumbled. He could hurt Todd plenty without actually killing him. "I'm not the murderer here." Anymore, at least. He'd promised Father.

"See?" Damian pointed at Todd. "He'd still kill." Never mind the fact that Damian kind of agreed with him that the Joker should die. That wasn't the point.
