Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

Dani was ready to go. After she got what she was told to get...well, not much else to it for her. She was relying mostly on her ghost powers. So, now it was just mentally preparing herself for something dangerous.

Sherry shifted through the crowd just as carefully as she could. She hadn't talked to Dani since they found Bandit, but that was probably because they ran in different circles (sometime literally).

"You're leaving, too?"

Dani looked over at Sherry and smiled. "Hey Sherry! Yeah, I am," she said.

If there's one thing Sherry isn't envious of, it's the people that have to leave. Still, Dani and the others are fairly nice people, and a few of them she at least doesn't find unbearably annoying. Like Dani.

"Will you be okay out there?" Sherry looked a little concerned. "I mean, you probably will, but..." she shrugged. She never was very good at this 'being concerned for strangers' business.

Dani gives her a confident grin. "Of course I will be! I'm a superhero. This is the sort of thing we're made to do."

Sherry cannot think of one battle she's read of that had superheroes saving the day. But sure, she decided she'd allow the 'superheroes' some benefit of the doubt.

"Well, you have to come back in one piece, then. I don't get to talk with you often, so, I'd like to. When all this..." Sherry motioned at the crush of people around them, "is over?" She is so far out of her element right now it makes her extra nervous. Sherry itched the top of her nose again and half-sighs.

Dani paused for a moment, thinking over the words, making sure she got it right. She beamed. "Yeah! I'd like that," she said. She didn't talk to most of the kids her age. She was kind of used to...not drawing attention to herself.

It was a bad habit, she knew.

But it'd be nice to be better friends with one of them, right? "I'll come back in one piece," she said and winked. "I'm a lot tougher than I look."

Mission accomplished, then. She thinks, anyway. Sherry's not very sure what she just accomplished here, other than the fact Dani seems very confident in her duties and they'll probably hang out together when she returns.

Well, that's enough for her, she supposed. Sherry offered a small, almost-smile, and pointed back at Leon. "I should probably go now, and let you finish preparing. But, don't forget. About when you come back, I mean." There is nothing in Sherry demeanor that suggests that Dani won't come back, but there is a funny little fear in her stomach.

It's probably just her stitches.

"I won't forget," Dani promises. She doesn't intend to break her promise either. Promises were important to her. "I'll see you later," she said, offering Sherry a wave.

"Yes, see you later," Sherry waved back shyly and turned to head back to where her father was in the crowd.

"Remember, stay close, don't do anything I would do," yes, he meant would, "And please, for the love of god don't get hurt." There's very real worry in Danny's eyes as he says that.

"You know how hard that is? Hero impulses are usually like yours," Dani said, raising an eyebrow, but grinning. "Really, don't be so worried. I can take care of myself." Though she does see the worry. It was...actually really nice to see that. "I'm serious, Danny. I survived on my own before. Sure, it's not dangerous mission, but it's not like I was always in ghost form either."

She gets a nod from Zuko.

"Don't take any unnecessary risks."

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] thethirdhalfa.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"You too. Better to go down for something necessary instead of something stupid, right?" Well, she sounds confident, at least.

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes."

He should probably add something about it being better not to go down at all. But, well. It's Zuko.

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] thethirdhalfa.livejournal.com 2009-10-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Dani smiled. "Good luck anyway?"

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She's just. She's kind of infectious. Zuko smiles back.

"Good luck to you too."

It would suck if bad things happened to her. It just kind of . . . would.

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] thethirdhalfa.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks!" Dani said.

Of course it would suck. Of course, just cause something would suck doesn't mean it wouldn't happen.

Don't do it. The mun sees what you're thinking. She doesn't like it.

"You too."

He resists the urge to ruffle her hair. He's got too much dignity for that.

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] thethirdhalfa.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
But imagine the drama? And everything?

Dani smiled up at him. Ruffle her hair, you know you want too. "Is your girlfriend coming too? The frowny girl?"

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Noooo the angst would be monumental.

"Of course."

They have each others' back this time. Zuko kind of likes this feeling.

Re: Deployment

[identity profile] thethirdhalfa.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
Which makes it more tempting!

"Can she do the fire thing to, or does she just kick butt?" Dani asked, looking interested.

So what if it was a serious mission? She's thirteen.

"She's very good with knives."

Re: Deployment

"Oooo, like a knife thrower?"

"There's nobody better at it."

He's proud of his very accurate girlfriend!
