Kira hesitates and then nods. "...yeah, you're right, I will. If we get home, that is." He's not certain, and the idea rather bothers him.

Of course, then there's the concern that if there ARE aliens in his world looking at Earth, the atrocities that humans are capable of toward their own kind might scare them away permanently. But Selene doesn't have to know that.

"Oh, we'll get home. This sort of thing, the heroes always return home," Selene said with a reassuring smile. "Helen's told me tons of stories. Going to other worlds, other times, apparently there was a point where I was a Nazi in some weird time altering adventure she was in that got erased from my memory. If they can return from stuff like that, they have to return from stuff like this and I doubt they'd leave us behind," she said.

He looks at her, stunned and sort of flabbergasted. Was she really telling the truth?

...and then he cracks a very small and quiet smile. "Maybe you're right - once we're done here, they wouldn't keep us."

Selene grinned and giggled. "I know, it sounds crazy. I've pretty much just accepted weird to be part of my life after I beat up a giant spider with a beer mug in the bar bathroom," she said. Okay, she put it to sleep, but that's what everyone thinks she did, so that's what she says.

"Exactly. We complete this 'great purpose,' then they should send us right back home. I mean, if they can go through dimensions, then surely they can make it so we end up relatively around when we were taken."

Kira shakes his head, though he's not disagreeing - he's just sort of feeling in over his head. "Even though I know you're telling the truth... it all sounds crazy." Whether he's referring to her story or the idea that they could put them back in time, though... that's unclear.

Selene shrugged. "You'll get used to it," she said and smiled. "If you need any help, I'd be happy to give you a hand in adjusting."

A small smile back at her. "Thanks... I appreciate it."

He paused. "I'm Kira Yamato. What's your name?"

"You're welcome. I'm glad to help," Selene said.

She held out her hand. "I'm Selene Jones. Nice to meet you, Kira."

((OOC: Okay, I'm gonna say it. Kira is adorable.))

Kira met her hand with his own. "Ah... nice to meet you too, Selene." There were people on this ship who were willing to help others who they had only just met - complete strangers. It was nice.

"Is... anyone else you know here?"

"Not as far as I know," Selene said, taking another look around. "I was betting on at least the Luminaries, but I haven't spotted them in a way I can recognize them." She looked at him. "Have you seen anyone?"

((OOC: Thanks. She tries.))

"...Luminaries? Are they friends of yours?" He'd been about to say that he'd never heard of them, but... well, that seemed a bit obvious now that they'd established they weren't from the same reality.

Kira hesitated for a moment, before another quiet - though rather genuine - smile appeared on his face. "Yes. My friend Lacus is here, too... I'm glad to have her here."

"They're the superhero team local to my city. I thought maybe I got hit by some sort of big pull. A lot of the bad stuff has a tendency to happen outside the bar I work at. But none of them or ever my co workers," Selene said with a frown. "I'm only friends with one of them, an immortal on their team named Helen. Goes by Deja Vu as a hero."

Selene smiled gently. "I'm glad to hear it. Kids shouldn't be alone on this wild a ride."

He nodded. "Right... you said something about her earlier. So they aren't here?"

Kira looked a bit, well... more puzzled than anything at the 'kids' remark. "...you don't look like you're that much older than I am."

"She and E are the only ones without secret identities. E being weird and she being immortal and not caring enough to hide it while she's acting superhero," Selene explained. "And no, not from what I've seen. Both of them stick out, Helen being the actual Helen of Troy and E just being weird."

"I'm twenty-four. You look....maybe seveteen?" Selene said, looking at Kira closely.

Helen of Troy? The Helen of Troy? ...maybe it said something about this place that really, he almost wasn't surprised.

"Eighteen - you were close." Okay, well, then she was older than him. Even if it wasn't by that much. "...But I think it'd be hard to be alone, no matter how old you were."

Selene noticed the surprised look and shrugs. "Well, she's pretty enough. And I've seen her get hit by a car going eighty and stand right up, so she's definitely not someone who dies esy."

"It's a technique you have to prefect as a barmaid," Selene said with a wink. "I can usually get within a year. But I suppose you have a point. I just have a soft spot for kids. It doesn't seem fair to throw their life around when they have normal, every day stresses they're still adjusting too."

"It all sounds too incredible to believe," he admits.

And yes. Normal, every-day stresses, Selene. Kira nods, though... will pointedly not be saying anything about his past occupation as a pilot. "Anybody can feel alone, though. No matter how old." He looks up at her. "So you work in a bar, then? That must be interesting."

"It is, isn't it?" Selene said, looking thoughtful. "I used to think so, but I kind of got used to it." At around his age, in fact. What with being in an experiment that manifested into her powers.

Selene nodded. "I know, but it just seems wrong with people so young," she said. Probably because she distanced herself from others when everything else was pretty much falling apart in her life plan while making sure she was walking in her body and not out of it.

"It got really interesting the past year. We have heroes passing through now who like to stop by. So I get to hear about a lot of strange and cool stuff," Selene said. "What about you? Got any college plans or anything? Still got high school in your world, right?"

"I guess you would, if you saw it every day."

When Selene asked about his plans, though, Kira looked momentarily uncomfortable - something that she could probably pick up on, if she were perceptive enough. "Ah... I used to study computer science at Heliopolis," he shifts. "But now I mostly help Lacus take care of children at an orphanage."

"It does seem that way. Then give yourself a few weeks and this place will seem normal," Selene said, patting his back.

Selene caught it well enough. She raised an eyebrow. "So...how did you get from point A to point B?" She asked, watching him a bit closer now that she noticed something was wrong.

He shifted again - these are things he'd rather not go into a lot of detail about. "It's a long story," he admitted. "...there was a war between PLANT and Earth. Lots of things changed."

And that eyebrow was still raised. "Were you in war territory or something? You can't have been drafted if your eighteen now and already working in an orphanage. That'd be a pretty quick run for you."

"It was two years ago," Kira said, looking out the window at the stars passing them by. "...lots of people got caught up in it. Maybe they shouldn't have."

Selene stared at Kira for several long moments before putting a hand on his shoulder, smiling gently. "Bad things happen in war. That's to be expected," she said. "And whatever you got caught up in, whatever you had to do, you don't seem a bad kid. So I think you didn't do anything you didn't have to."

"Even so," he said - and he's accepted that a lot of the time, he had done only what had been necessary - "Things can't be taken back." Kira's shoulders slump a little bit. He does appreciate the effort, though. Really, he does. It's just hard to show it.

"...how long have you been working at your bar?"

That was a totally smooth and not obvious change of subject at all.
