Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

Brainy comes flying into the room, immediately looking around, looking--is that excitement? Is he actually enthused, after getting that buzz on his comm-ring?

Or maybe it's fear. It might be hard to tell for some of the others.

Brainy! It was Brainy! And she was sprocking positive that no brainwashed Brainiac 5 (it had happened) could possibly look like that.

"Brainy!" she cried, dropping the illusion masking her movements and diving down from the statue to wrap him up in a hug -- and with twelve feet of length from head to tail-tip, Jeka had plenty to hug him with, not even counting her arms.

Of course, someone unfamiliar with this particular Legionnaire might only see some shrieking naga-like creature appear literally from no where and tackle a crew member to the floor while Stacy did absolutely nothing...

Just when she thinks she's getting used to things she wanders in to say hello to newly pod-popped people and a 12 foot snake-creature appears out of nowhere and goes after Brainy like letting him breathe is against the laws of nature.

Brenda doesn't really think about it before rushing over and grabbing the thing in a headlock. (That's what nature specials tell you, right? get it just behind the head so it can't bite you. maybe slightly less applicable to a naga-creature but...)

Maybe if the thought of Brainy getting strangled made her less mad she'd have paused long enough to realize that Stacy wasn't doing any tentacle-ing though...

And Spider-Man is hot on her heels. Take this, She-Fing Fang Foom...

"Hey, you got it all wrong, lady!" he raps as he aims to pin her wrestlin' arms with a few well-placed webshots, "the kid ain't a brocolli snack, he just looks like one!"

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"MMMPH!" Brainy cries, muffled by Sensor's body. He sounds, understandably, alarmed. Certainly, it must be because he's all wrapped up in snake coils and being smothered, right? That tends to be alarming.

"Whoa! Whoa!" Leon moved in, and oddly enough, began pulling people off of the snake girl.

"Back off! And you," he told snake girl, "calm down a little and ease off."

[identity profile] shes-intense.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"What the HELL Leon!? She's strangling him!"

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
The headlock would probably work better on someone who could wrestle with Superboy, Brenda.

"Hey!"

Jeka loosened her grip on Brainy to better defend herself from her attackers, but then someone else also came to her assistance. And--

"I am not strangling him!" Jeka protested, crossing her arms, then quickly uncrossing them and picking at the sticky white substance the other man had sprayed on her. "Why would I strangle Brainy? And I am perfectly calm, thank you."

[personal profile] stickyboots 2009-07-02 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Peter affixes himself to the nearest wall, "I'm guessing it's one of the usual clichés-- a green man murdered your parents and you're out for revenge is getting good odds, I hear."

[identity profile] shes-intense.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Brenda pretty much growls at her.

"It's Brainy. This THING happens to him a lot where people see him and think he's evil and then he's getting beat up out of nowhere and I'm really not a fan of the whole thing as you can tell."

She lets go of that headlock rather reluctantly.

"Way to look like you don't want to kill a guy, appearing out of nowhere and wrapping him up like a burrito, by the by."

She looks over toward Brainy with a concerned frowned. "You are okay right? I shouldn't put her back in the headlock? Cause I can..." Just because it's ineffective doesn't mean it's not distracting.

Leon was busy holding Brenda back.

"Calm down. She called him 'Brainy', not 'Brainiac' and he didn't immediately try to push her off with a forcefield." He looked up at Jeka. "He's an... associate of yours, I take it?"

Brainy didn't seem to the type to have many actual friends, if any.

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"As I was trying to say, she's my friend."

Haha, take that, Leon! He's alternately annoyed at their reaction and trying not to beam with joy.

"She's a fellow Legionnaire. You interrupted what was merely a rather exuberant greeting. Now if you don't mind--"

Yes, Jeka, you're getting a very warm hug. From Brainy.

"I don't think you can even grasp how thoroughly relieved I am to see you--I was worried I might have been the only one rescued from the void."

[personal profile] stickyboots 2009-07-02 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Peter heaves, though it's hard to say whether it's at the giant snake lady or Brainy showing affections, "That is so gross."

[identity profile] shes-intense.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
"....oh."

Oh good, now she just feels like an ass. (And she's so going to punch Leon if she hears an 'I told you so' out of him.)

governmentninja: (Crouching)

[personal profile] governmentninja 2009-07-02 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
No 'I told you so's, but for Brenda, though he did let her go. Everyone seemed to calm down enough. He did give her a bit of a pat on the shoulder before departing, though.

Though he'll later on ponder over the fact that Brainiac actually admitted to having a friend.

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa. Brainy must have been worried, he was actually hugging her. Jeka hugged him back, this time primarily with her arms although her tail did loop in a circle on the floor around his feet.

"It's good to see you too -- I kept asking Stacy where everyone was, but she just gave me a headache and tried to sedate me. None of the others have come out of those Pod Caverns either?"

Surely this "Stacy" person wouldn't have just plucked one or two Legionnaires out of the void? Not when the whole team was there, not when she'd have to break their line apart and send individuals to spiral off alone? She hugged Brainy a little tighter.

The redhead seemed embarrassed and genuinely contrite, so Jeka nodded at her.

"It's all right. I can certainly understand how it might have looked as if I was attacking him. I'm glad he had someone watching out for him."

[identity profile] shes-intense.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
She shuffled her feet a little, shrugging sheepishly.

"I'm sure he's about ten times as deadly by himself as I could ever be, but I'm just not much for sitting out a fight with friends."

She rubbed the back of her neck, then stuck out a hand.

"I'm Brenda."

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
It is a hug like family might hug each other, but it's cut short by Brainy letting go and quickly trying to regain his composure. He clears his throat.

"None of the others have been released from the Pod Caverns so far, but Superboy is here, as well as an alternate version of myself, from another universe. In his world, Coluans are cybernetic in nature."

He gestures to Brenda.

"Brenda here is a compatriot of the Blue Beetle, a hero from 21st century Earth."

[personal profile] stickyboots 2009-07-02 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"And I'm totally down with Steve Guttenberg. You guys still have Guttenberg in the future, right?"

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
"And this is Spider-Man. He seems to enjoy talking."

[identity profile] shes-intense.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"And sticking to things." Brenda adds, then turns her head to Spidey. "If they still have Steve Guttenberg in the 31st century he's probably a head in a jar like on Futurama, dude."

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
"It's nice to meet you, Brenda," Jeka said, pausing only the slightest bit before taking Brenda's hand. She still wasn't entirely used to it, even with her time in the Legion and her cybernetic arms prior to her transformation. "I am Jeka Wynzorr of the planet Orando, codenamed Sensor."

She looked over at Brainy, raising her eyebrows in surprise. "An alternate version of you? That must have been an interesting meeting!"

And then Spider-Man (probably no relation to the Spider Girl the Legion had met) said something about someone, and Brenda said something about keeping his head in a jar...?

Jeka looked over at Brainy again, brows knitting in confusion. "...Head in a jar...?"

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Brainy looks over at Jeka and just shakes his head slightly.

"They're from the 20th and 21st century, Sensor," he says, as if that explains everything.

People from the past are weird.

[identity profile] brainy-bot.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
And speaking of alternate versions...

Brainiac 5 flies into the room in a great hurry then just... stops when he spots the group. He'd hoped that maybe this signal would be someone he knew, but he doesn't recognise the girl there and it's very, very obvious that his counterpart does. There's a fleeting moment where he looks downcast and a little uncertain, then it's gone and he lands a little distance away from the group and walks over to politely offer his hand.

"I imagine you've already been informed but I'm Brainiac 5." A pause and a faint sigh. "The other one."

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Well, a cybernetic Brainy was hardly stranger than this heads-in-jars thing. Jeka smiled and shook his hand, trying not to immediately ask if she were still a normal Orandian in this Brainy's universe.

"Yes, I have been informed. I was wondering when I would get to meet you. Jeka Wynzorr, Sensor."

She didn't even need to see if her powers worked on him to tell he was disappointed, and she'd bet anything it was because she wasn't his Legion. "Are you the only one from your universe out on this ship so far?"
