Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

"Very unlikely," Jeka agreed. After all, if their captors had enough space to double up on Legionnaires, why not bring a variety of power sets as well?

"Think nothing of it," she said. "Like I said, you're a Legionnaire. Now," she glanced back and forth between the robotic and the organic Brainies. "What do I need to know about this place?"

"Other than how we're trapped here with no idea how this happened or why, and sent out on missions as Stacy sees fit? Not that much," Brainy comments dryly. "To be honest, I'm not that certain on some things myself. I was assigned to a mission shortly after arriving and seem to have missed out on some things."

A figure seemingly dressed in a rich shade of violet approaches the group. Her violet eyes take each of them in with a haughty gaze, and she carries herself with the air of someone who truly believes herself to be better than everyone around her. She stops short of the group and looks first at the smaller Brainy before looking at the other one. "I have heard it told that you are also from the Legion of Superheroes," she says simply. If they care to look, they will see a Legion flight ring on her hand. The ring is not an illusion.

"You heard correctly," Jeka said, looking the new arrival up and down. She didn't care much for her tone, or the way she was carrying herself. It reminded her a bit of Tasmia, and Jeka hadn't been willing to put up with that attitude when she'd first joined the Legion, much less now.

"I'm Sensor; and these are both Brainiac 5, from different universes."

The "and you are?" remained unspoken but still lingered in the air.

Princess Projectra raised an eyebrow at the...whatever that was, really. She looked the other - it was a female, right? - up and down and licked her lips in mildly obvious distaste. "Neither of them from mine, I can tell," she said, trying to keep her voice as civil as possible.

There was still a strong trace of biiiiiiiiiiitch in it, though.

Still, she introduced herself, "Wilimena Morgana Daergina Annaxandra Projectra Velorya Vauxhall, of the royal family of Orando." She paused for a moment and then said, "Most call me Princess Projectra." It was clear that she wasn't addressing Sensor as much as she was the two Brainys. She held up the hand with the Legion flight ring. "I am from the Legion of Superheroes."

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-17 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Jeka started to say that the organic Brainy was from her universe, but was interrupted by her jaw dropping in an admittedly rather unflattering manner.

But really, what else was she supposed to do upon finding out that this...'Princess Projectra' was her alternate universe counterpart?!

"You're the princess of Orando in your universe?" she asked, hoping that she'd somehow misheard. What kind of person included 'princess' as part of their codename anyway?

[identity profile] projectra.livejournal.com 2009-07-17 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
The kind that was truly royalty, darling.

Projectra tore her eyes away from the Brainys and gave Sensor a look that was one part boredom, one part pride, and one part why-are-you-addressing-me-you-freaky-snake-thing?

"Soon to be Imperiatrix of the Orandons," she said, her lips curving into a haughty smile. She wasn't going to take this losing-her-title thing sitting down. She was a princess and a witch. Those were two things one merely did not mess with. "That is, if I'm ever taken off this dreadful ship." She raised an eyebrow at Sensor. "Why? Do you have a problem with that?"

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have a problem with that, Jeka struggled to not say. Because Mother would be appalled to see a princess of Orando behave as you do.

And she cared for Projectra's behavior even less now that she knew they were supposed to be counterparts.

"Merely surprised, dear," she said coolly. "In my universe, I am the princess of Orando."

And thank grife I never wanted the position of queen if that ambition turned me into you.

[identity profile] projectra.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"I see," Projectra replied snidely, without letting the words or their meaning process. "That must be so ni - you're what?!" For a few seconds - too long for Jeckie's personal liking - she lost her composure and she looked the other princess up and down. She was horrified and a little repulsed. "What possibly happened in your universe to turn you into that?" she asked. "You truly didn't believe that insipid human fairy story about the princess and a frog and try to kiss a snake, did you? Not that it matters anyway. Clearly, I am here to replace you, just as one of these Brainiac 5's is here to replace the other one. Surely the two of you must not be meeting your purpose, ergo the reason for what is clearly an upgrade." That's right, Jeckie, go to the insults when you don't want to deal with what's really going on here.

[identity profile] cabbage-butt.livejournal.com 2009-07-19 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Neither of us is here to replace the other," Brainy cuts in sharply. "Admittedly, it's a highly unusual situation, learning to coexist with one's dimensional counterpart, and it has been...difficult, but we've found many commonalities between us."

A slight tilt of the head, but he's still looking at his omnicom, clearly bored with the conflict. "Rather than one of us replacing the other, we simply compliment the strengths of the other." They have no weaknesses. They're Brainiacs. "It simply requires time and the recognition that both parties have something vital to offer to our situation, and are not horribly different from one another. The end result is a cooperative effort. I would sincerely suggest attempting it rather than empty insults directed at individuals you've only just met."

He snaps his omnicom shut--yes he was scanning her and pretending not to, but he wanted to see what her species of Orandan was like, and if her ring was genuine (it is. He'd sort of been hoping it wasn't).

"That being said, welcome to the ship's approximation of the Legion. Clearly, the ship disregarded the fact that among several versions of the Legion, there are ample numbers of members, and decided to be redundant."

[identity profile] projectra.livejournal.com 2009-07-19 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Obsessive no matter what universe you're from," Projectra said off-handedly while looking at Brainy. She looked at the other one who seemed decidedly more pleasant...if younger. "Perhaps our different experiences have shaped us into different people. In some quite obvious ways," she mused out loud, indicating herself and Sensor as well as both incarnations of Brainiac 5. "Different experiences, different points of view, and different talents, despite being technically the same." She turned her attention back to Sensor. "I assume that you, too, can project illusions." It's not that she's stepping into line with Brainy there. Brainy merely displeases her enough for her to not want to deal with at this time. She'll take up her issues with Sensor at a better time.

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-19 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeka bristled at Projectra's strike at her appearance. How dare that arrogant little nasshead say anything about the way Jeka looked when her own personality was so hideous?! However, Brainy's timely intervention gave her the opportunity to reign in her tongue. He had a point; if the ship had released two of them, they ought to make an effort to work together rather than fight in opposition.

Although she deeply doubted that she would find much personality in common with this 'Princess Projectra'.

"I am a mentalist, yes," Jeka answered coolly. "I also possess super-strength."

[identity profile] projectra.livejournal.com 2009-07-19 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"A power I do not possess," Projectra replied, her voice equally cool. Not that she wants super strength. Physical fighting is so...gruesome and banal. "Perhaps the ship wishes us to use our abilities in tandem, to an extent." The thought...does not please her much. But then, as she's seeing, there are more people on this ship than make up the core of her Legion. Perhaps two illusion casters are necessary.

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-20 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Admittedly, Jeka hadn't possessed it herself prior to her transformation by Ra's al Ghul's hypertaxis energy, but she wasn't about to explain that. On the other hand, it had come in very handy when she had needed to project the illusion that she was fighting a telepathically mind-controlled MO'nel.

"The ship or those who designed her release protocols," Jeka said. "We were released from the Pod Caverns at the same time, after all."

If that had been the plan, it was entirely unnecessary. Jeka didn't need assistance using her powers, especially not from someone like this.

[identity profile] projectra.livejournal.com 2009-07-20 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well well well. Now who was being haughty?

Projectra mused over this for a moment. "That...is interesting," she finally said. "Odd, but interesting." She pursed her lips. "Well, then. This certainly proves to be...an interesting experience." She eyed Sensor before looking back at the rest of the group around them. One wrong slither, Projectra promised herself, and she was going to tear into that serpent's id, pull out her darkest fear, and force it in her face.

[identity profile] hatngartersnake.livejournal.com 2009-07-21 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
It was hardly haughtiness when it was true.

"Mm," Jeka said. She could think of other, far more accurate words for the situation, but they weren't suitable for polite company. And while Projectra hardly counted as polite company, there were others around them who did. And the less time Jeka had to spend in such poor company, the better.

[identity profile] projectra.livejournal.com 2009-07-21 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Darling, the only truth here was that Projectra was far superior to Sensor. Sensor's reptilian brain merely wasn't smart enough to perceive that yet.

With that one syllable, though, understanding flooded the humanoid princess' eyes. No matter what happened on this ship, it was far from likely that the two women would ever be anything resembling friends.
