Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

"Really? Glad to hear it," Selene said. "That it?"

Wednesday nods again. "I've given up on trying to find any real patterns—there have been a few groups of us released so far—so I've switched to just trying to get basic profiles of everyone in place for our chosen commanders." His eyebrows quirk up. "Besides, you learn more by watching than by asking."

Selene paused for a moment before she nodded. "That's usually the case, but it's good to get the basic summary so you know what you're trying to watch for in general."

"I like to make my own summaries," Wednesday says spryly. "Always easier to trust your own judgement than someone else's, after all."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
"True, but hard to make a complete summary without knowing more than one perspective," Selene commented and then pointed at the device he'd been writing on. "Do you have all of the crew on there, by the way?"

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, and here—" He taps his head.

A gesture with the omnicom. "This is for other people—our captain, for instance. Bald, regal, likes to adjust his shirt even when he hasn't got one..." Wednesday mimes the Picard shirt-pull and smiles a little.

"Everyone has their nervous twitch," Selene said, looking amused. "Do you know if any of the Luminaries are here? Deja Vu, also known as Helen, Bastion, E, Dream Weaver, Handy Man, Squared Ruth, Wraithy, Excavator?" She asked. Well, if she got taken, it was only logical one of them would be here too. "They're the local heroes from my city and they might be able to tell me how exactly I got taken."

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"None of the above," Wednesday says without a moment's hesitation, "unless there are other cover identities involved I don't know about. "We do have a few super-heroes in general, though—one's leading the let's-get-out-of-here-and-never-look-back work, in fact."

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I only know Helen's," Selene said with a shrug. "Most everyone does, since she doesn't bother to hide it," she added. It was amazing how the others don't get discovered, really. She was the only one who really bothered to hide her own.

Which is why she asked for her superhero identity, just in case.

She raised an eyebrow at the group name. "So I'm guessing people really want to get out of here, huh? Are they heroes from the big groups? Like the Justice League? Or X-men?" Why yes, she does come from a world with both.

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
He nods. "Some from both, and a few others besides. —Tell me," he adds, his eyebrows furrowing, "have you ever watched a television show called 'Star Trek'?"

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Heroes from both? Then why the hell was she here?! They were pulling people from the big leagues, why did they want her?! The Luminaries were only a few months old and even then, they were kind of misfitty.

Then again, maybe it was because she'd blown up a fleet of organic ships. It wasn't even like she knew that she would, but for whatever race was picking people, they might have thought she could do a whole hell of a lot more than she was currently capable of.

Unless the enemy was organic ships. But wasn't there someone more competent with sleeping powers besides her around?

Though to Selene's credit, she kept her mini-freak out in her head and maintained a rather calm demeanor on the outside.

"Star Trek? Yeah, I've seen some of it," Selene said. Any intimate knowledge she had she had gotten from trekkie dreams she'd wander into. "Why?"

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Captain Picard's the one in charge here," Wednesday says dryly, giving a few moments for that to sink in.

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Selene stared at him for a good half a minute.

"You're kidding."

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not," the old man says simply.

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Selene stared.

And stared.

And stared for a good bit longer.

"I think I'm going to go in and try and absorb how weird my reality had turned," she said.

Which was definitely saying something since half her reality is dreams.

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Wednesday nods, with a gentle smile.

[identity profile] dreamstolights.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
And there Selene goes, to try and make sense of how exactly she got pulled into something so weird.
