Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Jara let out a huffing grunt of displeasure, expression obviously dubious; he'd never met a good Yeerk in his life. Even the rumors of a Peace Movement he'd heard had been only that--rumors. Nothing substantiated. Nothing to make him believe that any Yeerks that were also in Mother Sky could be liked or trusted.

"Jake friend brother hurt?" Obviously, that seemed far more important of a question than anything he could ask about the Yeerks. If Mother Sky didn't want him to hurt them..... well, then he supposed he would have to be good. But that didn't mean he had to like what was being done, or that he didn't want to help Jake's brother, if he could. Family was very important.

Marco didn't tend to classify Peace Movement Yeerks so much 'good' as 'not complete bastards'. And Iniss definitely didn't count for that category.

"Yeah," Marco said softly. "Tom...he's hurt. He's still a host. Iniss lets him have control, but only sometimes, and only because some of the other people here make him." Marco scowled. In his opinion, the people making Iniss relinquish control weren't making him do nearly enough.

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The air hissed against his spikes as his tail swung restlessly behind him, short choppy arcs of frustration and restrained power where a normal human might have fidgeted uncomfortably. He wanted to do something, he wanted to help now. Why would Mother Sky let one of her children suffer like that? Were Yeerks really Her children, too? If they were, then shouldn't she help them to make sure they could live together happily? Jake's brother was hurt! Marco said so, it must be true.

Marco might tend to say some strange things that made no sense, and he might make many jokes.... But Jara trusted him. He knew Marco would never lie about Yeerks. They were friends.

"Should make Jake friend brother better." Jara insisted sourly, though he found himself at a loss for any sensible alternatives that would let Mother Sky stay happy with them all. "Should make Tom not hurt. Be free, give back own head. Have other place for put Iniss Yeerk?"
livestoannoy: (Okay are you nuts?)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-04-10 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Marco snorted. "Yeah, there's places we could put the Yeerk. Like stasis, although personally I like the fishbowl idea. But they won't let us do that. No, they want us to wait, and believe that they'll actually get around to making bodies for the slugs."

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
For a moment, Jara simply tilted his head and blinked at Marco uncomprehendingly. What was a fishbowl?

The other concept made him curious, though; it reminded him of something too recent, too close to home, to simply forget. And if the Arn could do it, after all, why couldn't Mother Sky? He wasn't entirely sure if he liked the idea, though. After all, wouldn't that be like putting a Yeerk into someone before they had a chance to grow up at all? "Make bodies? Like Arn? Harvest 'DNA' and make bodies for Yeerks?"
livestoannoy: (Sitting around)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-04-10 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, like the Arn," Marco said, nodding. "Except they're not so good at in, so they're pretty low on actual results."

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Should give to Arn." Jara suggested; even to him, it seemed a little nonsensical that people so evidently slow and poor at making something be given such an important job to do so. "Ask for help, if not good body makers. Ask for someone good make bodies, for get them fast. Make Tom friend free fast."
livestoannoy: (Why yes I'm going to be sarcastic)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-04-10 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well you point me in the direction of an Arn and I'll ask," Marco said, sarcastic.

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Naturally, the sarcasm was completely lost on Jara; he tilted his head back to to point upwards with his horns, unable to offer more specific directions. "Arn on ship. On ship with Toby, for make new Hork Bajir on Hork Bajir home."
livestoannoy: (This isn't going to end well)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-04-10 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Marco resisted the urge to find a flat surface to beat his head against. "No, Jara. The Arn ship is gone. The Hork-Bajir world is gone. Everything is gone. We can't just go fly around and find them."

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Everything is gone." Jara echoed faithfully; he seemed almost to shrink a little at the admission, wilting silently under the gravity of the statement. Everything is gone. No more valley. No more Earth. No more home world. Nothing. All of it was gone. They needed to fight the Ohm and make them put it all back. They had to be strong, and fight for everything.

But the solemn moment lightened a little as Jara lifted his head, considering; he reached out to clasp Marco's shoulder with one large hand, a gesture as much to offer strength as as it was to take some reassurance from how real and solid Marco felt. "Everything is not gone." He shook his head firmly now, giving his hand a light squeeze. "Marco friend is here. Jara Hamee is here. Hruthin friend and Rachel friend are here. Still have friends together. Still can fight."
livestoannoy: (Well this sucks)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-04-10 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Immediately, Marco felt bad for just saying that outright. "I'm sorry man," he said. "But...yeah. We're still here. For now, at least."

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Will stay. Will help." Jara insisted; he took a step closer, looming protectively over his human companion. "Jara Hamee will not leave Marco friend alone."
livestoannoy: (Okay okay I'm listening)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-04-10 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ur," Marco said, imagining having a seven foot tall salad shooter shading him around all the place. "You don't need to do that, Jara. Really. In fact, don't do that."

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Jara's head rose and rocked to one side, startled and slightly taken aback by the comment; he looked admittedly a little troubled by the thought. "Marco friend think Jara Hamee should sleep in pods again?"

He just didn't understand.... Why wouldn't Marco want him to help? Wasn't this important? It was a nice thought, to go back inside his flower--if you needed your own, and if he could find his ow, that was--and climb back down the tree to go live again in his valley. But Marco had said it himself: there was nothing to go back to. Earth was gone. So.... why should he sleep instead of help, when he couldn't yet go back to being alive? That wouldn't be useful at all!
livestoannoy: (Are you insane?!)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-04-14 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
"What? No! Just...don't follow me around all the time. Seriously. I can take care of myself, okay?" Marco said, feeling a headache coming on.

Why the hell did Tobias have to get himself repodded, he was always the one that was better at dealing with Hork-Bajir...

[identity profile] hashisownhead.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Jara nodded again, evidently satisfied with this; that made more sense to him. "Marco friend can take care of himself. Can fight."

He had faith in that much; he had seen the Animorphs fight before, after all. He knew that they could fight for themselves, and for his people.

"Yeah, I can," Marco said, nodding. "But hey, are you gonna be alright, Jara? Do you know what you're going to do here?"

He probably wasn't going to admit it, but Marco was worried about the Hork-Bajir. There were a lot of people on the ship who could take advantage of him, and he doubted that Jara would be happy if he didn't have something to do.
