Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

He rolled his eyes. "What, should I have pulled an Alex and tried to kick in the pod cavern door? Demons don't go around missing people like that!" he said. Nothing new there.

Yeah, give him a moment on that. He hasn't felt a need to. The thought that something might have changed hadn't even occurred to him.

"Nothin' big. Haven't beaten the Ohm yet, if that's what you're wondering."

Kaya snickered, then looked a little concerned. "Alex, I have to go see him. He must still think I'm podded, after I toled him that I wouldn't leave him! That poor kid."

Yes, she knew that her motherly roots were showing and she didn't care. Alex had been through enough and lost enough people: she didn't want to be added to that list.

"I was thinking more of what happened with your two apprentices and that Kain guy."

"Oh, they kicked ass, of course," Zetta said, as if it was nothing special. "I haven't managed to convince them to die yet, but eh, there's plenty of time."

"They both faced that Kain guy and won?" Kaya asked, a little flabbergasted. "Wow. The way everyone kept describing him, he sounded pretty strong. I wonder why he was after Sasami..."

"They're my apprentices. What the hell did you expect?"

Zetta suppressed an urge to roll his eyes. Why did anyone on this ship think anyone else was anything great when HE was here?

"Obviously not details," Kaya muttered, exasperated. "Well in any case, I'm glad they're doing ok. Kain sounded like he was pretty nasty, but at least that's one more person able to cause trouble off the ship."

"I don't know the details, I wasn't there," Zetta said. "They don't need me watching their fights, and they don't need to THINK I'm watching and'll save their butts if they get in trouble."

Kaya laughed. "Ok, I've met both Ruffnut and Hit Girl. About the last thing those two are going to do is expect you to go and save them. Hit Girl is the one that keeps going after she's beaten to a pulp, and Ruffnut is just...well, she's spindly."

"They're worthy apprentices," Zetta said, smugly -- and then he finally noticed something a smarter Overlord would have noticed a long time ago.

"That's weird." The book squinted at a point above and to the right of Kaya. "The screen's displaying the wrong name."

"It's not," she said, sighing. "It's what I've had to tell everyone: that was why I'd been podded. Stacy gave me the wrong memories, Katara the Southern Tribe girl was actually my teacher. I was with the GAang a lot, and yes, I may retain some of her memories, but I was from the Northern Water Tribe. My name is Kaya."

She shook her head. "I swear, Stacy just likes messing with me."

"Huh," Zetta said.

"Well. I guess that makes things easier for you, then."

She looked confused.

"Easier? How? I may never have the same bondy with my people from home again? How is that good?"

"Oh yeah, the people from your planet," Zetta said. "I forgot about them. I never saw them do much. Anyway, didn't you say you were with them? If you don't have Katara's bond, you have Kaya's, right? And if I know you at all, then everyone on the ship you know is the sensible friendly type who won't care at all this happened and still like you and stuff, so no loss there."

Zetta foolishly failed to realize just what his absolute implied.

"Yes, them," Kaya said. "And even if they've been to themselves, which they haven't, they're all still my friends, my family. But Kaya, me, they haven't even met me yet. So they're all going to be looking at someone who was assumed to be a part of them that actually isn't. And its not just that loss: its mine."

It felt like everything was wrong, that Stacy had given her the biggest middle finger of all.

"I feel like I can get missed at any time now, just some puppet for that ship."

"Okay, I'll play Overlord's advocate," Zetta said. "For all that the situation sucks, and I'll even grant that it does,, are you gonna tell me that coming onto this ship has been all bad for you? That you'd give up the friends and family you have here? Good side and a bad side. And besides, not to drop any names too soon, but, Matt."

"Of couerse not!" She said, bristling slightly. "I love all of you guys, are you kidding? I would pick yoiu gyus always over getting podded. And Matt...well, its complicated. But Matt and I have talked."

She reddened a little. "How has he been lately?"

"How should I know? It's not like we hang out." The Overlord didn't 'hang out' with anyone! " As far as I know, he's still on break from the Council, dealing with his crap. Don't make it too complicated and you won't have problems. Quit sabotaging stuff in your mind."

She shrugged. "Well how would I know? I'm surrised you happened to mention Matt specifically, to be honest. I figured you two might be friends or something."

She raised an eyebrow. "I'm not sabotaging anything. I'm just trying to think of him."

"I mentioned him because he matters to YOU, you waterhead!" Zetta said. "Now quit with the 'I'm just thinking of him' thing. That's the first way you screw it up. You think of him. He thinks of you. Neither of you ever actually say what you want to the other person and you end up doing what you THINK the other wants when that isn't what the other wants in the first place!"

Ok, was the Overlord purposely trying not to make sense? Because now she was thoroughly confused.

"'Waterhead?' Really? I think you can come up with something better than that. But this has nothing to do with how different I am, even if it seems like that. What I'm worried about is how we stand now. I know when we get together, it'll be good. But there are still things: he is in love with Will, and always will be. If she were to wake up, what would she think about him dating another girl?"

"Wait, I thought she did wake up." The Overlord was severely behind on ship gossip as a rule.

"Oh, you really should get with the program. That is a different Will: she's the one that Irm...uh, never mind. But not that Will, his is still podded."

"Sorry I didn't get the instruction manual!" Zetta said, rolling his eyes. "So what, you're gonna leave the guy alone on the off chance that the girl will wake up? Time ain't standing still out here, Ka----aaaaaya, I'm never gonna get freaking used to that. Time's moving."

"I don't know!" Kaya shot back. "But I DID meet her, and she was a friend of mine! Did you happen to see how well Aang took the news that I was dating someone? Do you think that Will would take it well if she popped here and found Matt with me, her friend, instead of waiting for her, like she did when she got here?"

"All I'm saying is you can't pretend life isn't happening out here on the ship just because some people are frozen," Zetta retorted. "And sometimes it's okay to be a little selfish."
