Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Very well. We'll see about getting your voice heard in the council. However, it will be a process. And it will take time." Stressed Matt, arms folded. He wasn't budging and call it pride on his end, but he wasn't going to be run roughshod by someone who believes herself to be better than him.

"I'll speak with our councillors and see about getting you informed regularly on processes. Is that acceptable for now?"

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am perfectly capable of speaking on my own behalf," She replied coolly and pressed the tips of her fingers. "Grant me an audience with them and I am sure that I will be able to persuade them of the necessity of having my people more adequately represented. Surely that will not take long?"

[identity profile] lackofdarkwings.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"It shouldn't but I need to speak with my fellow councillors first." Matt began to make plans. Tell Superman. Tell Kang. Tell Wanda. Tell Rhiow. Etc etc. And then make plans. And then, in his opinion, foist it all on Kang and Superman but that'd just be MEAN of him. But there's times when he was tempted to do so.

"Things are a little chaotic around this time of the month, especially since there were new arrivals released from the pods. Also, friends and family may have arrived for various members of our staff so we need to accustom everyone first before we do." He picked up a stylus and began to jot a couple of notes in his Omnicom. "However I will make it a priority. Can I get your name so we can contact you when we're ready?"

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am afraid that, considering out situation, I would rather see them immediately. As soon as possible. Surely, they're here?" Another eyebrow quirk. "I do not think you fully understand what might happen should any of my kin die in those pods. If what I've been told is true, we simply do not have time to allow 'acclimation'. Action and speed are paramount."

[identity profile] lackofdarkwings.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not everyone," replied Matt with a shake of his head. "While the councillors do come to the new arrivals, the chance of all of us being here at the same time is slim, especially with other people taking up their time with questions and concerns. I can however assure you that we're not about to get attacked within the next twenty seconds, and I really must contact them before we can see you."

Forceful people oi. At least Matt wasn't the type to be run roughshod over. "Please understand that we need to get everyone together, informed and up to speed before we can speak at length with you. And to be quite honest, everyone is worried about their loved ones. Several of us have been awake for months, even years with no signs and no means to find them in the pod caverns, as vast as they are. All of us know just how hard it is to wait for them to wake up."

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, so you are telling me that it must be days or even weeks or months before you will deign to see me?" She sighed softly. How irksome. "If the process is not expedited, I will find my own ways of contacting them and pleading my case. Be aware of that."

She drew herself up, "I am Farseer Ildraniath of Craftworld Ulthwe and my concern is not for my family or friends, but for my species. If they awake or if they do not is irrelevant - it is the matter of ensuring that they survive."

[identity profile] lackofdarkwings.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't say weeks or months, but there are many things to take care of first, especially with new crewmembers and returning ones." said Matt, his patience finally regaining its strength. "We will let you speak, I assure you of this."

"Farseer... Ildraniath..." muttered Matt, scribbling down her name with his stylus in his Omnicom. "Of Craftworld Ul... t, h, w, e I take it?"

And he nodded at that. "We all have the same feeling. There's numerous species and crewmembers who have the worry of survival of our people. Even with the high population of humans on the ship, there are many others who are also in the same boat so to speak. We all care for the survival of their people."

"In your alphabet, yes. I doubt you could say the proper Eldar word," she replied absently. Which was true. Not that it made it any less arrogant.

"Then they should be represented by your council or your captain, should they not? I am not a mon-keigh and so I do not pretend to speak for mon-keigh interests; similarly, I do not trust nor do I expect a mon-keigh to adequately represent the Eldar."

As Kang approached Matt to say hello, he couldn't help overhearing the tail end of the conversation, and noticing how frustrated he was beginning to look. Frowning slightly, he spoke up, "Ma'am, I am Councilor Kang. Is there anything I can help you with?"

[identity profile] lackofdarkwings.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank god you're here, sent Matt across a tight beam of telepathic communication. She wants to talk to the council about her people, and I'm trying to negotiate. Help?

Normally he wouldn't use telepathy since it was impolite, but he needed to sum up things without looking like a total dweeb in front of the Farseer. Hopefully he secured the plea for help tightly enough. "Farseer this is Councilor Kang as he said. He's been on the council since it first formed."

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
She had picked up on the telepathy - she hadn't gotten the message, but someone had been transmitting thoughts.

"It isn't polite to speak about someone when they're standing directly in front of you, you know," she chided. "Especially when they're also psykers."

That said, she turned to Kang and bowed. She'd seen her share of aliens before. "Councilor Kang. I am Farseer Ildraniath of Craftworld Ulthwe. As to what you can help me with? A seat on the council would be an excellent start."
governorkang: (Sons-of-bitches command face)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-01 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Kang hid a small grin at the chide and gave her a short, polite bow, "Well met, Farseer. Is that how you wish to be addressed, or do you prefer Ildraniath?"

That grin faded in a heartbeat at the request, though. Carefully keeping his face neutral, he adopted a little bit of his sons-of-bitches voice, "Unfortunately, the laws of this ship allow only nine seats on the council, and you must declare candidacy and be voted in by the rest of the crew if you want the position. At the moment, there are no seats open." He paused, pulling out his omnicomm and tapping on it for a moment with his claws. "If you've received an omnicomm already, I can show you where to find the ship's constitution, and the laws."

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Farseer is acceptable," Ildraniath nodded in reply. His words, however, were not what she wanted to hear. She wasn't completely surprised, but still.

She quirked an eyebrow. "What care do I have for your laws and constitutions? I will not have mon-keigh making decisions that could lead to the annihilation of my people, Councilor. Do not expect me to sit idly by and allow actions to be dictated to me."

Well, she had an omnicomm. She examined it for a moment. and then looked up at Kang expectantly.
governorkang: (Tail-lashing is a bad sign)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-01 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Farseer it is, then. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the term mon-keigh, and you are far from the only person on this ship wanting to protect the future of their race. Councilor Matt may have already explained it to you, but our universes are gone, and we have no records of those still in the pods. There are quite a few of us that are the only ones of our kind awake; I'm one of them myself," Kang said, his voice gaining a tad more steel. He had a feeling mon-keigh was a derogatory term for human, and he didn't like her imperious attitude. He'd noticed her resemblance to elves, so he wasn't all that surprised by said attitude.

"I cannot change the laws of this ship, but if you ever have any concerns, you are more than welcome to bring them up to me. I will ensure that your voice doesn't go unheard." He held his omnicomm out and pointed at the screen, showing her how to access the files. "There are also files on the Ohm themselves: their capabilities, and records of past battles, including a few videos."

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not good enough, Councilor. Either you give me an adequate voice in how affairs are run here or I will find another way - my own way - to ensure the safety of my people. My world may be gone, it may not be. This could be a trick, this could be the truth; whatever it is, I have a duty to my people. I will not allow the short-sighted, brutish humans to dictate what I must do. Is that quite clear? Or are you going to give another lecture on how the ships' laws are immutable?" She scrolled through several of the text files as she spoke, eyes dancing over the text.

"I do not trust any other species to speak for my own; nor will I ask them to."
governorkang: (o rly bozak)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-01 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Kang stood straighter, crossing his arms over his chest and suppressing a growl. This woman was really starting to get on his nerves. "As long as the way you find does not break any of the laws of this ship, you are free to do so. My presence on the Council, as well as five others that are also of other races, should be proof enough that humans are not the only ones that have power here." There was a definite hint of him very much not liking the idea of humans running things himself.

"As I've said before, if you have any concerns, you may bring them to me, or to any of the other councilors. Do you have any other questions pertaining to your awakening or the ship itself?"

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do not have questions or petty concerns, Councilor," She had stopped reading to stare up at him, steel in her eyes and her voice. "Regardless of the composition of the council, none of them are Eldar and I do not trust a single one of you to do what is in the interests of any of my people who may be in stasis. Our fate is our own. If you do not see fit to accept that, then I do not believe I will accept your authority over me."
governorkang: (This close to decking you)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's your choice to accept or not, Farseer. I can't take that away from you. However, as a member of this crew, you are expected to follow the laws, and we will enforce them. Is that clear?" Kang lashed his tail slightly, barely keeping from hissing.

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"When was my input allowed or asked for in the making of these laws? I did not ask to be here anymore than I asked to be paced under your rule. No, I do not think so, Councilor."

She flicked the omnicomm off and stowed it on her belt. "I can be of great assistance to you and these people, but I do so on my own terms, not those of any other."
governorkang: (Sons-of-bitches command face)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-02 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"None of us asked to be here. The fact is, we are all refugees, all stuck in the same situation," Kang pointed out. "I'm curious. If you relocate to a new city, voluntarily or no, do you expect the laws to change for you simply because you do not like them?"

His tail lashed again. "It doesn't work that way here. I'm not going to argue this further with you, Farseer, so unless you have any other questions about the ship you'd like answered, I believe this conversation is over."

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
"If I am moved against my will, that would imply I am a prisoner. There is a world of difference between the two councilor and I would hope you would understand that. If I had come voluntarily, I would not expect anything to change; for it was my choice, was it not?"

She sighed softly. "Can you give me any information not presented in these files?"
governorkang: (Council business)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
This time, Kang was unable to hold back the snort. "Assuming the involuntary reason for your relocation is because your home is no more, as is the case now. I am well aware of the difference between a refugee and a prisoner, and you are free to leave this ship the next we make planetfall."

He relaxed slightly, tone losing some of its edge, "What sort of information?"

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
"And abandon any of my kin in the pods to an uncertain fate? Oh, I do not think so."

But that argument was behind her. She would find other ways. "Anything that may be of use. Anything I ought to know as a psyker."
governorkang: (Neutral)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-04-02 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Kang left that one alone, not wanting to argue further with the woman. "People aren't the only things brought onto this ship; there are also buildings from multiple worlds. There's a large city on the fourth level, and a map on the omnicomm of the areas explored so far. There is also a hangar with a good number of vehicles of all types, from terrestrial to space-worthy, so if you possess one, it may be on board." He paused. "Psyker? Is that the same as a psychic, or future-teller?"

[identity profile] futureisclear.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting, but all information that she could've easily discovered from someone not in a position of authority. Asking directly, however, might prove ill-advised.

"Both, actually."
