In Which the Overlord Dislikes What He Sees [Open]

In roaming the ship, out of an increased sense of irritation and impatience, Zetta had discovered someplace new to him.

Most of the murals and paintings and sculptures in the place, disturbing though they might be to a mortal mind, gave the Overlord no pause whatsoever. In his thousands of years, he had seen the death of worlds, the descent into madness of some truly great minds, the greatest depravities of the Netherworlds, and Mickey in a feather boa. These 'alarming' sculptures couldn't dare disturb the mental integrity of the Overlord! Hyaaa ha ha ha ha!

...What DID shock him, though, was the statues beneath a giant head-sculpture thing. Two of them, in fact: the first an obstinate Overlord, arms crossed and looking stubborn, his back to the second; the second a woman walking away, stoic despite tears.

"What the... What the HELL is THIS crap?!" Zetta demanded of the room in general and the cosmos at large.

"Looks like you made a pretty lady cry." Ruffnut stated the obvious appearing from seemingly nowhere right behind the Overlord and his minion.

"Why the hell is there a statue of it?" Zetta turned his infuriated demands right on Ruffnut, which probably went to show how flustered he was. After all, who was LESS likely to have answers than her?

"I unno." Ruffnut looked up at the Statue itself, "Funny, I always expected you to be bigger." A throw away remark.

Then, much to Ruffnut's dismay the statue shifted to show her and her brother riding their two headed dragon with big stupid grins on their faces. She had spent so much time being berated by the voice in her head that sounded like Tuffnut she forgot how much fun they had flying together.

While Ruffnut always got a sort of pleasure from pain, this was not the kind of pain that worked for her. "Oh..."

"Hey! I'm pretty damn tall! It's not to scale!"

Zetta probably would've gone off more, but to his surprise the statues abruptly shifted into a different one.

"Oh. THAT explains it. It's some freaking mind-reading scene-showing statue. Hey, it's that dragon of yours."

"Yeah it is." Ruffnut acknowledged and her fists began to spark, she didn't like this statue thing. "Why does EVERYTHING in this ship have to read minds?"

Yeah cuz you've got so much mind to read~ The persistent nagging taunted.

The Statue shifted again, it seemed to be taking turns between the two of them.

Aaaand there's Zetta setting the Sacred Tome on fire.

"That's a misrepresentation!" the irritated Overlord shouted at the statue, possibly actually believing it. If anyone could convince himself that things had happened completely differently than they had, it was Zetta.

"Oh yeah? What did happen?" Ruffnut cocked an eyebrow. Even she was smart enough to take whatever Zetta said with a grain of salt.

The statue stayed on Zetta for a moment before slowly shifting to an image of Ruffnut and Tuffnut fighting, Ruffnut appeared to be winning with her knee buried in his back. Nothing unexpected there.

Starfire was lured by the sound of the obnoxious yelling that could only be from one book. Lord Zetta was bothered by something, and whether she wished to or not she would hear what it was.

Fortunately for him, she wished to.

She flitted around the statues, wondering what on earth it could represent.

"Who is this woman?"

Star wasn't entirely right for once; Zetta responded with his usual blustering denial and invective. "Nothing! She's no one! She's dead to me!"

Very believable, that Overlord.

Starfire frowned, studying the unfamiliar woman's face and posture more closely. Something seemed off.

"Then why have you decided that the display is 'crap'? Is it merely an inaccuracy?"

"How the hell would this damn statue know a damn thing about Salome?!" Zetta demanded. It isn't freaking fair! That's part of the past, damn it! It's over! Done! Finished!

[starbolts]

"Salome?" Well, you can't just throw new names out there without expecting her to ask about them!

"She USED to be my apprentice," Zetta said, forgetting for the moment that said apprentice was dead to him and so forth. "But she left."

Ronnae was passing by the art gallery when she overheard a familiar voice, in a familiar tone matter-o-fact.

"Zetta? Is that you?" She asked curiously as she walked into the room, moving between statues trying to avoid running into one and possibly break something.

"No! It's the other talking book of the ship!" Zetta snapped back. He didn't need to look to know it was Ronnae. Her voice was familiar (and he could see her status screen).

"... Wow Zetta, what got under your cover?" She frowned, specially not having had the chance to meet up with her friend who didn't like the notion of friends. "You alright?" she asked as she strolled beside him, looking at the statues curiously.

"Why the hell is there a statue of me and -- why the hell is there a statue of me in here?" Zetta sounded like he was about to rip an answer out of somebody right quick.

"Of you and...?" She looked to the accompanying statue and then back to the Overlords statue. "So... is this the girl you were talking about last time we spoke?" She had her hands behind her back as she eyed the statues more carefully.

"That's Salome, yes," the Overlord admitted reluctantly. "Why there's a statue of her in here, I don't know."

"Looks like someone's not too happy," someone behind him giggled. Lash was on her way from the engineering room to someplace-who-knows-where (all sources point to places she should not go), carrying a bunch of heavy equipment.

"You know them?"

Meatship: slightly more doomed!

"That's a statue of me! In all my real-body, handsome glory," he added in a rather smug tone. Yes, he is gorgeous and he knows it.

Right back to irritated in a moment, though, he continued, "Why the hell is there a statue of me in here, though!?"

Do you like your meatship rare or medium rare?

"Errrr..." She looked between the book-like talking thing and the statue, unused to people bragging like that that weren't her. Maybe Kindle, but that was about it and all she had done was talk about how pretty she was. She looked at the book again. The statue. The book. The statue. The book was now diamonds!

"Did you make statues of yourself in your homeworld and they got carried over?" But why that, of all things. That was dumb.

If it's not crispy-burned, would they not consider their efforts to be failures?

"Sure, I had a ton of statues of myself, but not THIS one," Zetta said. "Why would I have THIS one --"

The statue interrupted him by shifting. Now it showed the Overlord on a throne, looking indolently regal and damn satisfied to be there. The book responded by grinning. "Now that's more like it. Damn, I guess this is some shifting-statue thing."

Crispy on the outside, bloody red on the inside. It's delicous!

"So you were a king then?" she asked looking at the shifting statue and back at him. "So what did you do to end up like you are now? I bet it was a good story." Terrible pun intended.

"King?! I was an OVERLORD!" Zetta bellowed. "The most badass freaking Overlord in the entire cosmos! I'm only a book right now because the Ohm tampered with the Sacred Tome and I had to bind my soul to the damn book to survive!"
