In Which the Overlord Dislikes What He Sees [Open]

In roaming the ship, out of an increased sense of irritation and impatience, Zetta had discovered someplace new to him.

Most of the murals and paintings and sculptures in the place, disturbing though they might be to a mortal mind, gave the Overlord no pause whatsoever. In his thousands of years, he had seen the death of worlds, the descent into madness of some truly great minds, the greatest depravities of the Netherworlds, and Mickey in a feather boa. These 'alarming' sculptures couldn't dare disturb the mental integrity of the Overlord! Hyaaa ha ha ha ha!

...What DID shock him, though, was the statues beneath a giant head-sculpture thing. Two of them, in fact: the first an obstinate Overlord, arms crossed and looking stubborn, his back to the second; the second a woman walking away, stoic despite tears.

"What the... What the HELL is THIS crap?!" Zetta demanded of the room in general and the cosmos at large.

"Look... asking a demon to love is like asking an angel to kick a puppy," Zetta said. "It's not even possible! Angels aren't wired to kick puppies and demons aren't built to love!"

"That's not true, that's believing in an unbreakable fate. Or staying set in a stereotype built by others who want you to believe in that. But I've seen celestials do evil deeds, and I've seen demons love..." She said calmly, still looking at the Overlord with an innocent studying gaze.

"Yeah, well, apparently the demons on your world also spent I don't know how freakin' long trying to conquer the place," Zetta pointed out. "You really think it'd take me longer than ten minutes? I'm pretty obviously not in their class."

She sighed, "it has nothing to do with power level Zetta... They still broke form the norm. That's the only thing I was saying. I know you're in a league of your own..."

"Damn straight I am. Your demons are weird." Tolerance: apparently also not terribly high on the Overlord's list of virtues. "How long did the ones that took a stab at love live?"

She shook her head and just smiled. "Hmmm I'm fairly certain the ones I knew outside the family went with the planet... but I'm confident the ones in the family are still alive, the older ones being more than ten thousand years old."

"That just means no one took advantage of their clouded minds and gaping weak spots!" Zetta retorted.

"Psh, as if. They beat their opponents incredibly easy. Specially if they dared threaten their loved ones." She retorted back.

"I don't believe it," Zetta said. "Those so-called opponents were doing it wrong, then."

"Why are you always so against something different? And if it's something that worked, obviously it was because something went wrong... They were all incredibly powerful, regardless of what you think. But they still succeeded." She sighed and rested her head back on her knees.

"Because why the hell would I want to fall in love?" Zetta asked. "I still don't get THAT."

"Frankly, you probably already felt it, probably didn't know it then. But I jus' think you didn't know it. With the way you speak of the girl." She nods to the statue.

"...What the hell would make you say that?" Zetta said.

"The way you acted when you found it, and how you act when talking about it." She stood and walked to the girls statue. "She must have been hurting... But seems you made her believe you were set on your decision." She looked at the girls face with a sad frown.

"I was set. I still AM set." Zetta scowled at the statue, then turned deliberately away. "She knew better than to go around confessing crap like that to me. She chose to ruin it."

"You still seem to care... even now. So you were jus' being stubborn, and set into the what everyone there was the way demons should act. She must have seen something in you that made her think otherwise, and you know that... and yet... you keep being in denial Zetta... Why?" She turned from the girls statue to face him.

"Hmph. She saw wrong," Zetta said flatly. "She was born human. I guess some things stuck with her even thought they shouldn't have."

Zetta: extremely well-entrenched in his positions and beliefs? That's an understatement.

"You could have given her a chance... It wouldn't have killed you you know. You might have enjoyed it..." She said simply, crossing her arms.

"What, exactly, did you expect me to do, Ronnae?" Zetta said darkly. "What is 'giving her a chance' in your eyes?"

She went to answer but stopped. She wanted to know more before answering. "What happened that day?" She nods towards the statues.

Zetta frowned. "I told you. She confessed she loved me. I didn't reciprocate."

"And you can seriously tell me, you felt nothing for her. Honestly?" She studied him closely.

"She was a good apprentice and we had some good times. That's not love," Zetta said.

"Right, but how would you know if you claim you've never experienced it. And you claim to not have ever given it a chance, so how would you have known it wasn't it? Or the begining of it?" She asked curiously, a bit frustrated with how unreasonable Zetta could get at times.

"If you have to experience it to know what it is, no one would ever know because they'd never experienced it before!" Zetta argued right back, pleased with his logic.
