Welcome to Orongo

Once those who decided to go along on the mission were gathered on the Obs Deck and had time to go over the mission briefing, the detachment procedures began.

As with the missions before, the doors to the Obs Deck closed before it detached itself from Stacy, tethered by a massive umbilical cord. Those who had been on missions before would find the experience familiar if still somewhat unpleasant, but for those of whom this was their first mission, the sudden lack of gravity and lurching feeling as they entered the atmosphere would come as a surprise.

Thankfully though, the ride was quickly over as they landed safely on the planet below, the gravitational dampeners of the Obs Deck gently dropping the crew members back on their feet. One of the walls opened up, forming a ramp to the ground below. There was a sudden, slight gust of air as the door opened as the thick air rushed in. Even so, the air felt quite warm and refreshing.

Looking outside, the crew would see the bright yellow sun looming overhead, quite close in comparison to the sun on most planets. A handful of small, silver clouds dotted the blueish purple sky.

Ahead of them stood a rather impressive looking plateau, surrounded by a tall, ornate stone wall which was covered in tribal markings. Directly ahead was a large gate through the wall, with several small stone buildings in front of it. Beyond the gates, a larger settlement could be seen. Surrounding the plateau and covering the surrounding region were numerous strange, blue and purplish trees and plants.

"Aye," Jamie agrees. It's just a matter of getting through the next little while and seeing what would happen. Although, that does bring up a interesting point. Now that they were here, maybe it might be time to find out what's going on with those ritual-things that were mentioned at the mission briefing. Glancing over towards the plateau, he frowns thoughtfully.

"I wonder what these rituals are that they're going to want us to do."

Rachel nods to Jamie, frowning to herself. "Yeah," she grumbles. "If it's anything stupid..." Rachel was not about ready to care enough about some rituals for a stupid map, if they were anything she didn't like. There were enough people going after it. She could probably find something else to do, anyway, even if she couldn't find out anything about the weapons system.

Or else she'd just sneak into the main part of the city, without the rituals.

As he looks away from the plateau, Jamie catches sight of that frown. Seems as though she's not looking forward to finding that part out much. Well, he can't blame her. "Maybe it'll be something not all of us have to do."

At least she doesn't look like she's down here with anyone, so her chances of being dragged into something are rather small than his with the Doctor. Speaking of which, he lifts his chin, peering around for a moment until he spots the Time Lord, busy looking at some rocks. Jamie stifles the urge to roll his eyes, and turns his attention back to Rachel.

"It looks like there's a wee bit to explore even without the city."

Rachel nodded. With luck, maybe. But nobody on this crew was probably very lucky. "I guess," she said, instead, and shrugged. It'd be nice if they could just force a few people into it, and the rest of them got a free pass or something. But that probably wasn't going to happen.

She watched him, a bit, while he got distracted momentarily. Was he looking for someone? It was hard to tell, but she brushed it off anyway. "Yeah, true," she said, and shrugged. "At least we'll have stuff to do."

"Like look at rocks," Jamie mutters, mostly to himself, before realizing she's watching him. A little bit louder, he says, "Er, I mean, yes. There should be a few things we'll be able to pass the time with."

Thoughtfully, he adds, "I wonder if they've got halfway decent food here. I don't know about ye, but I'd not mind having something that isn't slop for a change."

It's all well and good having the Sensoriums to imagine it into something else, but he definitely wouldn't mind having a chance to have something with a little more substance to it.

Rachel gave him a look, raising an eyebrow at the comment, but she (mostly) ignores it. "I guess so," she says instead, shrugging, and turning her attention away.

Food, though, sounded good. The 'slop' they got was far from appetizing. "That'd be nice," she said nonchalantly. "The two main things that 'Stacy' is lacking in is food and clothing."

She paused, and finally offered the comment she'd wanted to make earlier: "Nice outfit, by the way."

Oh, Jamie. There doesn't seem to be any indication on his end that he's aware the comment may not have been meant sincerely. In fact, he straightens up a little - not quite preening, but definitely looking pleased. "Aye, ye think so? Thank ye, lass."

He gives Rachel a slightly crooked, gratified-looking smile. "Hey, if we make it through these rituals in one piece we can meet up in that city and see what we can find. If ye don't see me, though, look for him."

Jamie jerks a thumb over at the tall and skinny Time Lord in the tweed and bowtie. "That's the Doctor, by the way. He'll know where I am."

That is, of course, unless Jamie's gone and wandered off on him. Or vice-versa.

Rachel snorted slightly at Jaime's reaction to her 'compliment'. Poor kid was hopeless, apparently. But that could wait, anyway.

"Sure, sounds good I guess," she said, and nodded, then turned her eyes to the man that he was indicating. "Oh, that guy," she said. She remembered her brief meeting with him. Figured that bow-tie-guy and kilt-kid were friends. But at least she had something she could do if/when she got into the city. "Sure, I can do that."

"Good." He still seems pleased - in his mind, he's gotten a compliment and made a friend, so it's a fair start as far as missions go. "I'll look for ye in there, then."

Right now, though, he's thinking that it might not be a bad plan to go keep a closer eye on the Time Lord. Especially before the Doctor decides he wants to try tasting the rock or something similarly daft.

"Look, I'd best go before he wanders off, but it was nice talking to ye, Rachel. I'll see ye in the city."
