Panacea (Operation Shoot 'Em in the Chest and Lower Extremities) [OPEN]

Bleary-eyed toil brought results, and there was a cure for ROM-199A. Now the problem came with administering it.

Down in the city, the makeshift strike team wielded modified tranquilizer rifles and each of them had 12 cure rounds to use. The infected needed to be struck solidly in order for the cure to be injected-- they were instructed to aim for the chest, though a shot in the arm or leg that hit and stuck would work as well.

It's like paintball, except with deadly pathogens!

Meanwhile, up in Quarantine, those who didn't feel comfortable with shooting their crewmates in the face chest and lower extremities were charged with curing those who had already been subdued and contained.

That was more like tag than paintball, except with deadly pathogens, of course.

(ooc: If you signed up here or here, fire away. If you want to participate but didn't sign up, fire away. If you're infected, tag in to your victim of choice and tear those jerks apart before they shoot you in the face chest and lower extremities! THROW-DOWN! Remember, give the newbs and less plot-fortunate first shot. HAVE FUN.)

"I'm here, sweetie," came Claire's voice, relieved that Sherry was, while still drugged, at least coming back into her own. She stood from where she'd been sitting and moved to the bedside, reaching out to smooth her hand over Sherry's hair.

"How're you feeling?"

It took a moment for her eyes to find Claire, and her eyelids still felt like tiny weights, but she relaxed when she finally saw her mother. "Better," she replied in a little, tired voice. "Sleepy."

Thank you, Luis. "My head feels like jello, though."

She laughed quietly at that, nodding her head a little.

"You've been asleep for a while, so the jello feeling is understandable. Just take it easy, okay?" She didn't need her little girl getting sick on her, again.

"Yes..." Sherry squeezed her eyes closed and then blinked a few times in an attempt to be more alert. It wasn't working. "I will."

She was quiet for a few moments and then murmured, "Is Dr. Sera's face okay? Is he mad?"

"Oh, honey," Claire shook her head, still gently stroking Sherry's hair, and sat carefully down next to her on the bed.

"He knows that you weren't thinking straight, he's not mad at you. You got sick, and you couldn't help it. It wasn't your fault, okay?"

The line in Sherry's forehead did not fade, as she still looked a little worried. Despite her mother's promises to the contrary, Sherry was pretty sure most people didn't take a trash bin to the face well. She'd have to apologize again later, and hope Dr. Sera would still let her sit and observe him in the labs.

"Why can't I ever just get a normal cold?" Two terrible viruses in less than a year was starting to make Sherry wonder if she was just going to keep attracting them. So, she pouted, and moved her head from her pillow to Claire's lap.

Claire couldn't help the brief snort that escaped her at that, and she shook her head, moving to pull Sherry's blanket up a little.

"I dunno, sweetie. I guess we're just lucky like that. Normal is too boring."

[identity profile] in-venting.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sherry murmured a grumble and closed her eyes. "I know. I just... don't like being sick, either." Her voice was starting to wane. "Where's Dad?" And why was she still sleepy? The whole day was on notice, as far as Sherry was concerned.

"He's keeping an eye on things down in the city, I think," Claire responded quietly, pressing her lips together for a moment. "I'm sure he'll be up as soon as he can get away." And if people started trickling in and there were no sign of Leon, she'd go hunt him down, if she needed to.

"All right," Sherry replied, satisfied with the answer. "He'll be okay, Mom. Dad's made of rubber," she mumbled.
