Meet N' Greet!
It's big meeting time! Word of mouth gets everyone gathered in the Obs Deck--everyone. New, old, the entire crew is there and that makes it clear that there's close to a hundred of them, if not more.
When they've all arrived, a blue bubble pops up around them, courtesy of Blue Beetle, to block them all from Stacy's sensors. Most of the new people were given the basic rundown by Cybil or Chief when they were first released. Some of them have already joined a discussion with a the Commanding Officers and department heads. Some have had a chance to explore a bit. Some were only just recently released.

"What? It's not like it's the real thing."

Introducing b*#%@-face number 67.Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
That's all he gets. Oh, and some more of b#%&@-face number 67.
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
Dean is cranky. Fighting constantly with Sam does that to him.
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
He sighs.
"Sawyer," he says, calmly, "A fortification was a good idea. But what told you it would be reasonable to tear apart something you know is sacred to other members of the crew? Without asking?"
There's a sort of tired, been-over-this-a-thousand-times tone to his voice. He thinks he has the measure of Sawyer by now.
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
She snarls. "This one called Sawyer is worthy of no respect," she asserts, especially to the Chief. "Humans do not have word for "Omega". Lowest. Last in line, weakest. But he is. There is no reason to keep him. He is coward, he is weak, he shows no honor. Why would it matter if we killed him?"
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
He comes down on Bella like a house, pinning her to the deck in an easy movement with one hand firmly wrapped down around the top of her muzzle holding her jaw shut and the other arm pressing her neck and chest to the floor to keep her from clawing with her forelegs. She snarls and thrashes, trying to break away from him.
"Stop moving. If you shift, you'll get bigger but my arm around your neck won't."
Bella's snarl deepens and she tries for a few more seconds, but he outmatches her while she's in Lupus form. She stares up at him with with a furious light in her eyes. The Chief ducks his head lower, staring right straight back.
"We do not," he says, with a low and deadly calm, "Kill other members of this crew. We do not suggest that we kill other members of this crew. I do not care how invincible you think you are, Bella, if you make yourself a threat to this crew you will have me to deal with. The rest of us aren't wolves, but I can be. Have I made myself clear?"
Bella breaks eye contact, looking away and down. She goes limp, and (extremely reluctantly) whines. The Chief gets up, releasing her, and watches her with steely eyes. He seems every inch of his near seven-foot height. Bella retreats, dragging her axe after her, to sulk.

Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
"As you you can see. One of our largest problems is cohesion."
She turns to face the crew, all of the ones that were mouthing off and being stupid.
"Many on this crew seem to forget that we're in a life-threatening situation. They also seem to forget that the best way for us to survive is for us to work together, which picking petty arguments tends to make more difficult."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
To Kirk, he said, "Very well, Captain Kirk. If I'm to be the one in command, I cannot think of anyone I'd rather have as my Number One right now."
"I intend to keep the current senior officers on hand as senior officers for as long as they're willing, though I can guarantee I'll also be making changes to the crew structure that some might find unpopular. However, Captain Bennet, I must admit that my work will be much less than I would normally expect in such a situation. Your efforts as commanding officer of this vessel and her crew are certainly to be noted and admired.
"This crew must hold together if we are to survive, but we must also account for those who will be unwilling to work together, or who may actively serve as obstacles toward cooperation. Chief, do you have a brig set up as of yet? At the very least, members of this crew can calm down in it when problems grow out of hand.
"The medical and engineering staffs are fine the way they are, and can simply be updated as needed when new arrivals that are qualified and willing appear.
"Finally, Captain Bennet is correct; we cannot afford to collapse into in-fighting while we are still trapped aboard this vessel. Hostilities will cease, or those instigating and continuing them will spend time in whatever security cell Chief has, or whatever Mister Worf and the Chief come up with. I'll not have brawls on a regular basis on a ship I command, is that clear?" Not five minutes of being in command and the captain was already laying down the law. Still, he knew it had to be done.
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
"We don't have a brig as of yet, Sir, but it can probably be arranged. During the Yeerk outbreak we were using the restraints on the operating tables in the medical bay to hold the infested, but it isn't practical for this purpose."
He looks off after Bella. "Bella's been pushing her limits since the day she woke up, Sir. She's a wolf more than anything, has a pack mentality. I just bit her and told her she's not the boss."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
"I know the first person I'd like to toss in there," she commented, though her voice was low. She's looking at you, Sawyer.
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
Yes, now that some of the crew have simmered down he's ready to pitch a fit, "Look-- I can't speak for my kind on the ship, I don't know any of them. But I know one thing. I'm wearing this mask for a reason. I help people in any way I can, not in any way anyone else expects me to. I just came out of a real bitch of a war, and I wasn't bullied into fighting it somebody else's way."
He shrugs, the webline tethered between his feet, "There was only one authority there and as far as I see it, there's only one here, too. She's the one that's found her way into all of our heads. She tells me to jump? Maybe I'll consider asking how high."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
He pauses, a gleam in his eyes, his expression set, "Now, we're not trying to bully you. Realistically, we can't force you to follow our orders. This isn't Starfleet, this isn't any organized military force or organization. All we can do, all I can do, is ask that you trust us, that you trust your companions who have been thrust into this, just like you, to do the right thing and to make the correct choices. And... I'm afraid I have to disagree talking about law and order, talking about brigs isn't quite as insane as you make it out to be, son. If this meeting is anything to go by... people are on hair-triggers as it is. If we fall into in-fighting, if we can't prevent ourselves from trying to tear each other apart, we will fail."
Kirk keeps his eyes locked on the suit's, "Stacy may be the AI in charge of running this ship... but I'll be damned if I'm going to let her dictate everything we do and wait for explanations on her time. I'd much rather we seize control of this vessel ourselves, that we take control of our own fate."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
"The important thing here is to keep all of us from killing each other long enough to get things done. We can't go around pointing guns, provoking supernatural monsters, and picking fights. Personally, I can't think of anyone we'd need to brig at the moment, nobody's been an active threat to others. We need to work on conflict resolution, yes, but I haven't seen an outburst turn violent. Yet. We need all the help we can get if we're going to get out of here, and I hate to leave a man behind. As Kirk has said, if we fall into in-fighting we're as good as useless."
"Everyone here who's doing work has volunteered to do it. This isn't a trained army, I know that. Nobody wants to be here. I don't expect unquestioned obedience out of anybody, but I do expect them not to actively put others in danger. You have a problem with anything I do, tell me about it."
He nods to Kirk. "And that last is exactly what we've been trying to do."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
And to this comment, he responds with a rather dramatic facepalm, "I'll admit you're talking a lot of sense, Captain. But trust doesn't factor into this. I'm willing to lay my life down if it will save any of yours, whether I trust you or not, and I don't believe I have to forsake my principles to do it. My concern is that this gives people free reign to compromise my ability to do that. The other Captain here may have been asked to take over by the current command staff, but he just approached us as if we're an insurrection that needs putting down. That sure as hell doesn't make me feel comfortable when it's coming from a man that just glided out of the ooze on the lower decks!"
He throws a hand in Lyta's direction, "And as for the remark just made by one of our commanding ladies-- doesn't exactly reassure me that this brig isn't going to be used maliciously."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
The Doctor crosses his arms, frowning. "Some of them are either severely less experienced than other crew - no offense to the kid in charge of engineering, just saying how I see it - or complete whackadoodles who don't know how to behave when they've got power. There was no election, nothing. I'm not following any commander who can't open their mouth and come out with something sensible instead of reactionary."
"Arbitrarily locking people up or banishing them isn't going to help you. Trust me."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
"Captain Picard is more then capable of commanding this ship. Anyone who disputes that can deal with me. He has proven himself an honorable commander and has saved my life on more then one occasion." He gives an extra glower here at the assembled, especially Spidey, The Doctor and Sawyer. "He is not a man to punish people for their opinions or opposition to him. Only for their actions which endanger the ship and the crew."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
"Excuse me, but deal with you?" colour him astounded, "Your Captain may not punish those who oppose him, but it sounds like his subordinates are prepared to."
Eventually, he eases up somewhate and shrugs, "Look, this all seems to me as a lot of military men lobbying for military authority. I don't blame any of you, it's what you're accustomed to. But in my world, this isn't a military situation. You can't blame me either."
Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)
"Believe me that any disciplinary action would be strictly on an as-needed basis only, and even then we're not talking about anything more than someone spending a few hours in a holding cell to calm down. No one's talking about turning this into a military matter, or taking over, or anything else that you might worry about. It's a change of command, for those willing to follow as part of a crew. If you do not wish to be a part of that crew, that's fine. I will not allow anyone to stand in the way of those who do, however.
"I have experience commanding crews and dealing with the unknown, including travel to another reality. I will be doing everything in my power to help this crew back home where it belongs, but I can't do that if most of the crew is unwilling to follow a captain simply because they didn't choose to be here. None of us chose to come here. What matters now is how we're going to get back. That means this crew needs to come together. And that means a commander is needed.
Commander Bennet has done a superb job, from what I've seen, but she has asked me to take command, with the support of several members of the current command staff." Picard stood tall, unwilling to back down before the challenge of his authority.
"As such, with majority approval, I will take command as Captain of this vessel and her crew. I'm asking that you trust me, as many of you trusted Captain Bennet, but if you have no wish to serve under a captain, then there's nothing else I can do, now is there?"
