Meet N' Greet!

It's big meeting time! Word of mouth gets everyone gathered in the Obs Deck--everyone. New, old, the entire crew is there and that makes it clear that there's close to a hundred of them, if not more.

When they've all arrived, a blue bubble pops up around them, courtesy of Blue Beetle, to block them all from Stacy's sensors. Most of the new people were given the basic rundown by Cybil or Chief when they were first released. Some of them have already joined a discussion with a the Commanding Officers and department heads. Some have had a chance to explore a bit. Some were only just recently released.

The Doctor's eyes flicker from one person to another as he listens, but when he speaks he's focusing on Picard. "You'll quickly discover, Captain, that I have a bad habit of disobeying. But if you're as sensible as the advertisements say, I'm not going to have to. Frankly, I'm not so worried about the person doing the shouting of orders; I can just ignore you if I must. It's members of your staff that worries me, and have since they were appointed."

"There's a distinct distrust toward myself and a couple of your other higher intellects. Not that I mind, I'm a bit used to it." He rolls his eyes expressively, because oh is he used to being disliked. "Probably is best to put the human kid in charge of the engineering department. That was a stroke of genius. Because none of us will ever just ignore him to go our own way, and he will always keep up with what the Master's doing. But I suppose if you're more concerned we'll all go rogue, it makes sense. Somehow."

"What I want is for you to stop, listen to people, and I dunno, think before you declare that you won't be changing any of the command positions. Because there is distinct bias against some of us, from your command staff, based on half-truths from before we came aboard. And that prejudice will hurt your chances, because it will make it so, so much more difficult to work with us."

"I wasn't made aware of this, but if any of you wish to speak to me about any officer or order that you do not understand or have problems with, you can feel free to speak with me personally about it to a reasonable limitation. If there are any members of this senior crew you have a problem with, then direct your complaints toward me and I'll see what I and the rest of the command staff can do."

Kirk speaks up again, "While I can't speak for the current senior command staff, we have met with most of them and they seem capable enough in their positions. I believe it would be helpful, if people wouldn't simply dash off on their own whenever they feel like they know better. As Captain Picard said, if you have issues with any of the current officers, bring them to us and we'll determine what needs to be done."

He peers at the Doctor curiously, clasping his hands behind his back before he lets his gaze drift around the room. This could be trouble. It seemed like at least part of the crew was either unwilling or simply had too much of an independent streak to accept any sort of command. While he could appreciate independence and initiative, everyone running around at odds with each other was a recipe for disaster.

"They're talking about me," Lyta spoke up, addressing both Captains Picard and Kirk. "And they're right, I did suggest we lock some of them up in the brig. But it had nothing to do with half-truths about their pasts before they came aboard. In our first fight, we lost more people to friendly fire than we did to the bugs because people were acting independently. Then we had another incident during the Yeerk infestation because someone thought they knew better than everyone else. Genuine mistake or not, they could have cost people their lives and, yes, I think that there needs to be consequences for that beyond a light slap on the wrist and a 'don't do it again.' Not when it's putting my or anyone else's life at risk."

She then looked at the Doctor, pointedly. "What the good Doctor is leaving out, is that my recommendation to throw him in the brig was less about his refusal to submit to Brainiac 5's medical scans and more about his running out of the Vatican in the middle of a battle and leaving the rest of us to fend for ourselves. He might think our safety is an arbitrary reason to lock someone up, but I don't."

"It sounds to me, ma'am, that you're taking issue with one group of people for contributing and another for not." Spidey cocks his head, "I suppose it doesn't matter as long as we lock them all away, right?"

Re: Command Change *warning for language in thread*)

[identity profile] clear-horizons.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"We are not locking anyone away. Miss Alex, I appreciate you being frank with me, and I'm certain that a compromise can be reached. We need to be able to work together on this. I understand that we all come from different realities and times and worlds, so common ground may be difficult to find. But take note that this place will continue to be a reality whether we choose to accept a command structure or not.

"In any community where survival is key, there are leaders. If you have a problem with this, then feel free to leave, because I can not and will not spend all my time as Captain trying to appease one group so they feel better about serving under my command. I can better spend that time aiding the crew that will work and cooperate."

"When those 'contributions' or the lack thereof put my life at risk, you're damn right I take issue with it. It's my life and you have no right to put it at risk any more than I have the right to put yours at risk. Especially without asking."

"I wasn't suggesting I did. My concern was that you were accusing people who don't want to risk your life by fighting of commiting an equally serious offence! Doesn't that sound, I dunno, a little hypocrital? No, just a smidge?"

He sighs heavily, and looks upon the breadth of Starfleet's finest, "Look, I'm clearly outnumbered here. I was given a job to do, keeping an eye on the kidlets, and unless you want me reassgned I don't have a problem continuing to do that. If that'll be all--"

And with that last little bit of adolescent posturing, he zips off to find Jaime so he can let him out.

Jean had heard that a new bunch of people had pod popped and curiosity had drawn her down to the meet and greet.

As soon as she stepped into the the room, she was immediately hit with feelings of anger, frustration, annoyance and lingering resentment. Her brows furrowed and she slowly looked around the room at everyone.

Her eyes widened and momentarily she stood there and her mouth dropped open in surprise... The Professor?! But the more she looked at him and the longer she stood there, she knew it wasn't him. Confused, she frowned and moved slowly into the room, listening to the heated conversation.

She cleared her throat finally and took a step forward. "I have something to say. I know I haven't been a part of this crew very long. But it seems to me that you might have a harder time insisting on any sort of disciplinary actions with some of our crew...." She shrugged her shoulders.

"There needs to be something else put into effect with those of us who could get around any sort of punishment that you can come up with. I highly doubt that you'd be much of a threat to Superman." She looked over at Worf - she's not being rude, she's just stating facts.

"How exactly do you plan on dealing with them? I could easily toss many a person around in here, though I'm sure there are some my powers don't have much effect on." Maybe... Perhaps.

"I'm honestly unsure of that one," Picard replied. "If this place brings people from all realities, then perhaps someone I know from that other reality are here. They may know how better to deal with so many varied powers and abilities."

Jean looked over at the Professor the man and smiled slightly. "Then I wish you luck in finding some one with that knowledge."

It wasn't much help, she knew that. But she felt that they really needed to talk into account that there were those in the crew that they might have no control over what-so-ever.

"I'm Doctor Jean Grey by the way. I'm a pyschic and I'm also telekentic." She said, figuring it was best to introduce herself and tell what her powers were right up front, considering she could possibly be one of the harder ones to control.

Even though she'd found that more people knew of her on this ship than not, it was always a little alarming when someone said something like that.

She really wished people would stop doing that to her!

"Yes.... Yes I am," she said with a sigh, her eyebrows furrowing a little bit.

"I never met you myself, Miss Grey, but I did meet a friend of yours. Storm? It was thanks to her help and the help of the X-Men that the Enterprise and her crew were able to return to our own reality. My name is Captain Jean-Luc Picard, though you likely already know it."

"Oh..." She looks confused, and though she wanted to ask exactly what the hell he was talking about - now wasn't the time. "Well, I'm glad they were able to help you..."

"I did..." She paused, allowing a smile to form on her lips. "I have to admit, you bear a striking resemblance to someone I know..."

YAY Jean! You've for the moment killed the bickering - someone get the woman a cookie or something!

The bickering is killed for all of three seconds. See, 'cause that's when Spidey asks to be let out of the bubble.

Then the bickering doesn't start up again. No, this isn't bickering. This is a sixteen-year-old boy calling all the adults out. (http://community.livejournal.com/trans_9/50530.html?thread=4144482#t4144482)
