Beastboy was for the most part a highly emotional boy, running on lots of energy, irrepressible cheer and a sense of humor that was...unique at best.

But sometimes...sometimes he needed time to think and be quiet. Usually he could do that while playing game station, reading comics or going for a flight.

Today however despite his lack of desire to socialize he had energy to burn. That creepy robo chick had teased him with cake and gotten him all worked up, only to drop him just in time to find out he'd missed a huge fight.

So being the responsible and intelligent hero he imagined he was, Beastboy decided he needed a little training to get back into the swing of combat.

The Sensoriums were awesome in his opinion, like a giant do it yourself video game.

So the scene? Jump City streets just outside the his favorite Pizza parlor.

The enemy? Sladebots! The best for cannon fodder, they were robots so he didn't feel bad about stomping them flat, and they were just scary enough to be a challenge.

This was his right? No way he could lose...

***

Within ten minutes he was being rolled down the street by the over zealous Sladebot projections...his imagination was running away with him.

"Yup that's me, the watertribe 'chick,'" she said, mimicking his words earlier, but not with malice. "So how come you're getting attacked by all of these robots in the Sensoriums? What are they?"

But once it changed, Katara raised an eyebrow. Well. That was interesting.

"A pastry world?" Well, that made sense and she could see Sokka loving it there.

Katara shrugged. "Nothing wring with cake...unless you eat too much of it of course."

Jump City. She was always really blown over by other people's worlds, especially their cities. It always looked like some crazy super future place, with the skyscrapers and flying machines that actually weren't run by helium.
She looked around, marveling at how different everything was.

"Ok then! How about we beat some bad guy butt then?"

The first target was the boy with the limbs from the pact. He'd wasted just one second looking menacing, and Katara took that second to freeze the mechanical limbs to the ground. While he was trying to undo that, Katara danced into his space, moving effortlessly as he swung at her, and then twisting him and his limbs up fairly neatly. He was already screaming stuff at her, not that she understood what they meant, and the then eyed the robots.

She brought her hands up, and a wave of water came at the robots, washing several of them down the sewer with a flourish, the rest she took out quickly via ice shards. It wasn't a move she would ever have done to
a human or a sentient robot, thinking of B5.

"Can you take that big guy?"

Katara watched with rapt attention, marveling with the ease that Beast boy was able to change. When he out maneuvered the big lug and sent him flying, Katara had to applaud, adding a few whoops. Yup. she could definitely see why Sokka and he would be fast friends.

"That was pretty excellent!" Katara commented. "So you're a superhero too, huh?"

"Wow, that's really cool!" Katara noted the island that seemed to be almost apart from the city, yet still there. It reminded her a little of Kiysoshi island and how, even being split apart from the mainland, its place as an Earth nation was still evident. And to have that many superheroes in one place, that was just amazing.

Far less amazing, and more frightening, was Beastboy's transformation. She HAD seen a T-rex before, but considering they'd had to take it down, Mammoth wasn't the only one running for cover.

While she did redden a little at the "hot girl" comment, se did come out of hiding, placing her hair back in place.

"I'm right here!" She said, waving. "Sorry about running...we had to fught one of those things a little while ago, and well, it wasn't pretty. THey're pretty hard to take down!"

She walked over to him. "So what's thsi team like that you were talking about, the ones on that island?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
"It was during the invasion of this evil god known as the Nightmare King," Katara said. "Basically, he was this evil entity that was able to being up all of your worst nightmares and feed off fear. The stronger he got, the more dangerous things became, until finally everyone's worst nightmares started to manifest. That dinosaur was only one of a long list of things we had to fight. That's why destroying those robots just now weren't that freaky: they pale in comparison to fighting a terminator."

Katara watched him describe each of the members of his team with glowing pride, and it actually made her a little happy. She knew exactly what he was talking about: Zuko, Sokka, Toph, they were her team, her family. She didn't get to see them much, and that was sad: she missed being around them, talking with them about things they knew about. It was as if they'd become strangers, and she wanted that to end.

"Well, it looks like your friends wanted me to see them!" Katara said, pointing to them, and then pausing at the blond girl. "But who is that?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara had to laugh at Beastboy's reaction to bringing up his friends without meaning to. She couldn't help it: his humor was actually pretty comforting, a reminder of why she really liked being on the ship even when all of the misfortunes were piling up on her. It was always hard to feel lonely here!

But she couldn't help but notice his reaction to that blond girl. She knew the reaction pretty well: it was the same type she had whenever the subject of Jet was brought up. She guessed there would always be that reluctance to talk about something like that, especially when it was so personal.

But she did laugh when he dismissed his friends so abruptly. "Guess you;re still getting the hang of the Sensoriums, huh?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Katara laughed. "Beastboy, we don't have anything CLOSE to this back home. Where I come from is all ice and snow, and in the rest of the world, we haven't gotten far enough to make anything like machines yet. The Sensoriums is like something out of a fairy tale!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Katara turned a hint of pink. This was way too much deja vu right now: once again someone green was reminding her how not with the modern technology she was. She shook this off though: there was no point in her getting bothered by it now.

She laughed a little when he turned into the small bird. "We don't have any of those things where I'm from Beastboy. Most nation have their own kind of recreation: sports, active games, bending."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara thought for a moment. "Depends on which nation you are. In the water tribe, we play ice dodging and go penguin sledding. The air nomads used to play airball, or Bison Polo. In the Earth Kingdom, you could play soccer with earthbending, or ride the Elephant Koi if you were in Kyoshi Island. The Firenation had games like Hide and explode, or Kuai Ball. I haven't played all of these games, and I know there's more I've missed, but those are the ones off the top of my head!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Trust me, you have no idea," Katara commented, trying not to reflect on exactly how seriously the Firenation could take things. "But you should meet Zuko and Mai, they're firebenders and could give you more accurate information."

When she saw him transform into a penguin, she blinked, confused. "Um, you have the general shape of it right, but the face is all wrong. Pengins look like this."

She took a stick and drew a penguin-otter (http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l35/avatar_portal/official_pics/c_penguin1.jpg).

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Katara was glad Beastboy had altered himself to look like the penguin-otter, but now that he was and the snow was starting to fall, she couldn't help herself. She started to move her hands around, and the snow under them started to shift, so that they were now looming over a hill.

"Get ready to be penguin sledded!" Katara said, leaping nimbly on Beastboy, giving him the nudge to go down, with her on top of him. "Geronimo!" she cried, laughing.

Forgive her Beastboy. She'd been playing mom and sister the last few days, it was rare for her to have a kid moment.
