Beastboy was for the most part a highly emotional boy, running on lots of energy, irrepressible cheer and a sense of humor that was...unique at best.
But sometimes...sometimes he needed time to think and be quiet. Usually he could do that while playing game station, reading comics or going for a flight.
Today however despite his lack of desire to socialize he had energy to burn. That creepy robo chick had teased him with cake and gotten him all worked up, only to drop him just in time to find out he'd missed a huge fight.
So being the responsible and intelligent hero he imagined he was, Beastboy decided he needed a little training to get back into the swing of combat.
The Sensoriums were awesome in his opinion, like a giant do it yourself video game.
So the scene? Jump City streets just outside the his favorite Pizza parlor.
The enemy? Sladebots! The best for cannon fodder, they were robots so he didn't feel bad about stomping them flat, and they were just scary enough to be a challenge.
This was his right? No way he could lose...

Within ten minutes he was being rolled down the street by the over zealous Sladebot projections...his imagination was running away with him.

She grinned. "You have pretty sweet powers!" Katara said. "I've never seen anything like it!"

"Yeah, I guess they are pretty cool," Katara said. "Besides, I think you'll fit in here just fine: we're still trying to help people, right?"

"See a long time ago, my parents took me to Africa. They were scientists studying animals and genetics." He explained as on the screen an adorable blond child accidentally broke a beaker and was sent outside by one of the other scientists.
"So I'm playing outside right, and this monkey shows up and bites me!" A green monkey did indeed bite the boy and he fell ill on the screen, "The monkey was infected with a disease called Sakutia, and it was deadly to humans. My dad decided to try this experiment on me to save my life, completing the missing link between man and animal. I turned into a monkey and stayed that way till the disease worked it's way through my system. The side effect was that I was green and had my awesome ears and fangs."
The child Beastboy on the screen was actually very adorable despite his impish looks.

"I almost wish I had a cool origin story like that!" Katara said. "Not that I mind my own story. I mean, I'm basically in a world where we are able to bend: I can waterbend, other people can bend fire, air and earth. There is one person born every generation who is able to bend all elements, The Avatar. He can also draw out the power and wisdom of the previous Avatars, and keeps the world in balance. I've been traveling with the current Avatar and my brother, and due to all our traveling, I've become a Master Waterbender."
It was a REALLY brief history of what's happened to her, but she would have time to talk about that later.

He thought of all the Titans back home, they had had destined encounters before, Raven had been destined to destroy the world and she had...but she'd also saved it. Cyborg had once somehow magically put himself back together after being torn apart. Starfire had been destined for a life of slavery once but her fate brought her to Earth.
And on that destined day five superheroic teenagers met for the first time and decided to join forces to save the world.
But was it all fate? Or was Beastboy just lucky.
Either way he smiled, "That's the thing, as heavy as it all gets there's always hope, take it from someone with miles of unfounded optimism and a hearty sense of denial!"

"Say Beastboy," Katara said, "down in the city, there's a hotel where this team of teenagers gather as a team, The Outsiders. Our basic goal is to have a camaraderie of members who help on the ship in times of trouble on the ship. I was a part of the team when we had leaders, but now those leaders are gone. I've been trying to gather what's left of them and keep the team alive. Basically, we're a team that don't discriminate on what our fellow team members ages or general species are, so long as we're family and we help others. You interested?"

"Are you kidding? that sounds totally sweet! I'm game!" He cheered excitedly, "It sounds like a different kind of Titans, I'm all about family and helping others!"

Well, she had to admit she hadn't seen the requirements for Security recently, but she did like the idea of a teen propelled team.
