Shop 'Till You Drop! [SO VERY OPEN]
It was nice to be out on solid ground, to breathe fresh and salt-tinged air, and to feel the real warmth of the sun on her neck and shoulders, Nanoha thought. She felt a very deep urge welling up within her breast to just take flight, to soar through an actual sky in the first time in months - and she had no doubt that she would.
But there were other things she had to take care of first. Like, for instance, swimsuit shopping with her best friend.
"Ooh, this store looks like it might have some cute ones!" Nanoha tugged on Fate's hand, pulling her towards one of the storefronts that lined this street of the bustling shopping district. Even if it didn't, there were still plenty of others to try, and plenty of cute outfits to convince Fate to try on.

Katara had an idea that if Aang were here, he would definitely be investigating what caused Stacy to look the way she did. Of course, that didn't mean she would get an answer anytime soon.
"I just hope I can dance to the music," Katara said. "Music has really kinda been the only thing on the ship that doesn't change, at least as far as appreciation and interpretation goes. But musics style itself always seems to shift and change in different worlds. Who knows what the people here like?"
At the invitation, Katara grinned and gave him a playful punch on the arm. "Like you even have to ask," she said. "That's what friends are for! Well, that, and still being a girl I like to have my friends try on different clothes and see how they look."
no subject
"Aye, that's true. There are some things that ye would never think of when ye think of music that are commonplace for other folk. I'm sure ye will have no problem, though." He reaches down and picks up a bag that's by his feet, just in time to get the playful punch on the arm.
"Hey!" Glancing up, he tries to give her an exasperated look. It doesn't really work, since a somewhat crooked smile appears a moment or so later. "Well, I didn't know. Not everyone is interested in helping with these sorts of things, aye? I'll be right back."
He disappears into the nearby changing room and is gone for a few minutes. When he comes out, the plantsuit is no longer visible. Instead, he has the shirt on, as well as his kilt and a pair of sturdy hiking boots paired with grey socks. He may have simple tastes, but this type of outfit suits him fairly well.
He looks over at Katara, then turns so she can see the back of the outfit. "So, what do ye think?"
no subject
"Sure I'm interested. I'm your friend aren't I?"
She waited, and when he came out of the dressing room with what he was wearing, Katara had to admit something she was not going to say out loud: Jamie had really nice legs for a guy. That aside, she cleared her throat.
"Honestly, I really like it Jamie! I've never really seen a shirt like that, but it suits you. I would say ditch the kilt, but I honestly couldn't see you in anything bit a kilt. Maybe you want to try a different color though?"
no subject
It doesn't seem like it, though, and he turns around. "What do ye mean, a different color?" He supposes he could see if they had the shirt in other colors, but he's always looked good in black. And there's not much that really goes with a red kilt. Unless...was that what Katara meant?
"Wait, you'd not be asking me to do that with my kilt, would ye?"
no subject
But the kilt she totally wanted to change. "Well yeah. Is the color red so important? I think you can shake things up with a blue, or even a green. I think it would suit you!"
no subject
Accordingly, he keeps his temper in check, and none of it actually shows in his voice when he does speak.
"Look, I know it might seem a wee bit odd, but I'd rather wear a different outfit altogether than change the color of my kilt." Jamie's always worn a red kilt. It's something that's as familiar to him as his pipes, and something that's not easy for him to change.
"It's...a tie to my home, aye? To Scotland." He looks down at the kilt and adds, softly, "Even if I never get my universe back, I have this."
He looks back up at Katara, his face reflecting the emotion he's feeling, but can't quite put into words. "Do ye understand what I mean?"
no subject
She shook her head, sighing. "That was really insensitive, and I'm sorry. Honestly, I'm glad for the shore leave right now. I've been doing nothing but training and practicing hand to hand combat. I feel like after that meeting about the Ohm and then that training session with Cargn, I'm even having nightmares about the Ohm now. Makes me REALLY glad they didn't show us the Ohm when the Nightmare king was around."
She put her hands behind her back, a quiet look on her face. She knew what Jamie meant all right: her water tribe necklace meant the same thing Jamie's kilt did.
no subject
He knows that she does understand, and any irritation he had felt was gone. And if her words are anything to go by, this shore leave is something she needed. Something they all did, in a way.
"I know how ye feel. The Ohm are enough to give ye nightmares all on their own." Having that knowledge of them when the Nightmare King was around would have been a very bad thing.
"I likely would have been doing much the same as ye if the Doctor...er, Doctors...hadn't woken up," he admits. Their arrival during the last podpop changed a few things. Jamie realizes then that he actually hasn't told Katara about it. It's his turn to feel a bit chagrined.
"...And I didn't mention that to ye before. Och, I'm sorry."
no subject
Not that she thought that would happen anytime soon. It had occured to her that the whole reason fior this shore leave was because of what would be happening to them afterward...they couldn't have shown them images of the Ohm for no reason.
"They're strong," Katara said, thinking back to the simulation that Cargn had shown her. "And they fight pretty viciously. My nightmares have been a little about them, but I also don't want to think about how vicious I'm going to have to be to take them down. I'll fight them if they try to hurt the crew or any other worlds, I just want to be the same person afterward."
Would that even be possible?
At the mention of the Doctors, Katara brightened. "That's all right! So the Doctir is finally on the ship! That's good news, isn't it? But I didn't know there could be more than one."
no subject
"I saw the training," Jamie says, his voice quieter than normal. "They're verra strong, and quick." He's gotten a little bit easier to understand during his time on the Stacy - much like he did during his time with the Doctor. Sometimes, however, he reverts without meaning to. "We'll learn to fight them better, though."
Whether or not they'll be the same afterward - Jamie couldn't say, and doesn't care to hazard a guess on it.
He's happy enough - more than happy, really - to change the subject to the Doctors. "Of course it's good," he replies, although he can't imagine why she would think he would think any differently. Even if it's not his Doctor. "There's not supposed to be more than one, though. The blond Doctor thinks it may be something to do with his people not being here to stop it from happening."
no subject
Katara could understand Jamie pretty well actually. It had been hard at first since she'd been unused to anyone speaking like that, but now Katara had actually grown to like the way he spoke.
She had actually been really happy to learn that the doctor was here: she sensed Jamie getting a little lonely without people from his world on board, and with the doctor here now, she might be able to learn a little more about Jamie. "What's the other, non-blond one like then?"
no subject
He shakes his head for a moment. "Look, I know ye want to be the best fighter ye can, but I think ye are being too hard on yourself here. Ye can't expect to learn everything overnight. Now, I'm not saying it's a bad thing to train as much as ye can, but with an opponent like this, that you've never fought before? It'll take a wee bit of time, aye?"
As for the other Doctor? "Too tall," Jamie says, with a faint sniff. "Mine's a much better height, if ye ask me." After a second or two, he realizes that might be a little confusing, considering the way he referred to Five. "Ah...neither one of them are actually my Doctor," he adds. "Not the one I traveled with, that is. They're still the Doctor, though."
no subject
Here, Katara shot Jamie a long look. "I know that. I know that it will take awhile, that I shouldn't rush into it. But the thing is, nobody's told us when we're actually supposed to be fighting the Ohm. We don't know if it could be a few days from now or if its in another year or what. This is the same thing that happened with the Nightmare King: we know there's a threat, but we don't know when they're coming at all. So I won't do anything stupid to harm myself, but I also can't afford to be negligent about it."
Katara giggled here. "Too tall? I didn't know a doctor could be too tall! But I have to admit I'm a little confused about it not being your Doctor, and how there could be more than one in the first place."
no subject
Of course, Jamie tends not to worry all that much when it comes to himself, with a few exceptions. And while he could point out that the Nightmare King was on the ship and the Ohm aren't, he can see her point. He presses his lips together for a moment, and sighs. "I wasn't saying ye were being negligent about it, Katara, but...och, what's the use? Look, I understand what ye mean, all right?"
He is just going to focus on the Doctor, instead. Safer that way. "I don't blame ye for being confused. I'm still a wee bit confused," he admits. Rubbing at his forehead, he tries to think how to explain.
"The Doctor's people have this thing they can do where they can change, called 'regeneration'. It's...part of what they are. They look different, and can act a wee bit different, too, but they're still the same person. My Doctor was about my height, and he had this dark mop of hair. And he looked older, then either Doctor that's here now."
no subject
She smiled and patted his shoulder. "I'll try to go easy when I can, okay? that's about the most I can promise anyone."
Katara listened to this part with rapt attention. "You know, I actually understand the regeneration thing: Aang is the Avatar, and they go through something similar called reincarnation. Basically, when the Avatar dies, his spirit goes into someone in the next part of the cycle of another nation. Even though that person is obviously different, they not only have some of the memories of previous Avatars, they also can tap into them as separate people and gain wisdom from their years of wisdom."
no subject
It's nothing personal in this case - sometimes Jamie just gets that way. But he also tends to get over it fairly quickly, so while Katara is describing reincarnation, he's simply listening to her. He nods slowly when she's done. "Aye, that does sound similar. But I don't think it's that the spirit that goes in the Doctor's case. It's just everything else that changes."
no subject
She nodded. "Yeah. The way you make it sound, its just a new face, new look and a slightly different personality, but its still the Doctor. I get that."
no subject
As if Jamie actually has a choice in the matter. But he can't resist the urge to see if he can get a tiny bit of a rise out of Katara, even if it's only for a moment.
"And aye, that's pretty much it. Although I think mine might be in the pods, still." Maybe the rest of them, too. He's already traumatized Five with that particular thought. "I wonder how many of them there could be? He never did say..."
no subject
And that was news. "I still don't get there being more than one. The way you made it sound, the Doctor could get into and out of the worlds and stuff, so its not liked he's contained in one dimension, right? So how can there be two of him if he regenerates, or even more than that?"
What WAS Stacy's power anyway?
no subject
He sobers up quickly enough, however. "Och, Katara, I don't get it either. All I know is what I mentioned before." He shrugs. "Ye could try asking them, but I'm not sure they'd give ye any more of an answer than the one Doctor gave me."
It's much easier for him to accept that it just is. Things like, oh, it might be because they're two different Doctors from two different universes and not his Doctor at all? They haven't occurred to him.
What does occur to him, however, is that there's something else Katara mentioned earlier that he was considering trying - aside from the dancing. And since he really can't answer the other questions, maybe now is as good of a time as any to bring that up. It just involves a wee change of subject.
"Oh - while I'm here, I should maybe look for a swimsuit. I don't suppose the kilt would work well for that, aye?"
no subject
She just shook her head in amazement. "Sorry to start in on that, since you don't get it that much yourself. I'm still getting used to concepts like different dimensions and people coming here from different moments in time. I figured you might know a little more than I do about stuff like that."
At the mention of a bathing suit, Katara laughed a little. "No, I don't think you want to use your kilt as a suit. We can definitely get you one though: I've seen shopping around enough to take a look at a few."
No swimming briefs, of course: plaid trunks would be perfect for him!
no subject
No, better to concentrate on something easier. Like swimsuits. "Hey, I wonder if they have any plaid ones here?" There's a glance over to Katara, and he adds, "I might be willing to try a blue or a green in one of those, ye know. Did ye see any like that?"
no subject
Not getting out of it that easily, Jamie. Or are you?
"Of course they have plaid ones here, I've seen them!" Katara said, getting lost in all of the different selection that were available. "I've seen some green some blue, even a few purple and black! They would look really good on you!"
And she's off now to get a few selections of trunks for you Jamie.
no subject
He idly rummages through some more of the shirts while Katara is off trying to find swim trunks, and pulls out this rather hideous looking multi-colored one from the rack.
It's eyed with extreme skepticism. "Och, who would wear something like that?"
no subject
"I think someone who willingly goes to buy this is seriously looking for the attention!" Not that she thought that there weren't some people on the ship that would do this purely for that reason. In any case, she gave Jamie three swim trunks: a green one with a blue trim, a plaid colored one with dominant green and reds, and a dark plum one.
"Thoughts?"
