Shop 'Till You Drop! [SO VERY OPEN]
It was nice to be out on solid ground, to breathe fresh and salt-tinged air, and to feel the real warmth of the sun on her neck and shoulders, Nanoha thought. She felt a very deep urge welling up within her breast to just take flight, to soar through an actual sky in the first time in months - and she had no doubt that she would.
But there were other things she had to take care of first. Like, for instance, swimsuit shopping with her best friend.
"Ooh, this store looks like it might have some cute ones!" Nanoha tugged on Fate's hand, pulling her towards one of the storefronts that lined this street of the bustling shopping district. Even if it didn't, there were still plenty of others to try, and plenty of cute outfits to convince Fate to try on.

Katara could understand Jamie pretty well actually. It had been hard at first since she'd been unused to anyone speaking like that, but now Katara had actually grown to like the way he spoke.
She had actually been really happy to learn that the doctor was here: she sensed Jamie getting a little lonely without people from his world on board, and with the doctor here now, she might be able to learn a little more about Jamie. "What's the other, non-blond one like then?"
no subject
He shakes his head for a moment. "Look, I know ye want to be the best fighter ye can, but I think ye are being too hard on yourself here. Ye can't expect to learn everything overnight. Now, I'm not saying it's a bad thing to train as much as ye can, but with an opponent like this, that you've never fought before? It'll take a wee bit of time, aye?"
As for the other Doctor? "Too tall," Jamie says, with a faint sniff. "Mine's a much better height, if ye ask me." After a second or two, he realizes that might be a little confusing, considering the way he referred to Five. "Ah...neither one of them are actually my Doctor," he adds. "Not the one I traveled with, that is. They're still the Doctor, though."
no subject
Here, Katara shot Jamie a long look. "I know that. I know that it will take awhile, that I shouldn't rush into it. But the thing is, nobody's told us when we're actually supposed to be fighting the Ohm. We don't know if it could be a few days from now or if its in another year or what. This is the same thing that happened with the Nightmare King: we know there's a threat, but we don't know when they're coming at all. So I won't do anything stupid to harm myself, but I also can't afford to be negligent about it."
Katara giggled here. "Too tall? I didn't know a doctor could be too tall! But I have to admit I'm a little confused about it not being your Doctor, and how there could be more than one in the first place."
no subject
Of course, Jamie tends not to worry all that much when it comes to himself, with a few exceptions. And while he could point out that the Nightmare King was on the ship and the Ohm aren't, he can see her point. He presses his lips together for a moment, and sighs. "I wasn't saying ye were being negligent about it, Katara, but...och, what's the use? Look, I understand what ye mean, all right?"
He is just going to focus on the Doctor, instead. Safer that way. "I don't blame ye for being confused. I'm still a wee bit confused," he admits. Rubbing at his forehead, he tries to think how to explain.
"The Doctor's people have this thing they can do where they can change, called 'regeneration'. It's...part of what they are. They look different, and can act a wee bit different, too, but they're still the same person. My Doctor was about my height, and he had this dark mop of hair. And he looked older, then either Doctor that's here now."
no subject
She smiled and patted his shoulder. "I'll try to go easy when I can, okay? that's about the most I can promise anyone."
Katara listened to this part with rapt attention. "You know, I actually understand the regeneration thing: Aang is the Avatar, and they go through something similar called reincarnation. Basically, when the Avatar dies, his spirit goes into someone in the next part of the cycle of another nation. Even though that person is obviously different, they not only have some of the memories of previous Avatars, they also can tap into them as separate people and gain wisdom from their years of wisdom."
no subject
It's nothing personal in this case - sometimes Jamie just gets that way. But he also tends to get over it fairly quickly, so while Katara is describing reincarnation, he's simply listening to her. He nods slowly when she's done. "Aye, that does sound similar. But I don't think it's that the spirit that goes in the Doctor's case. It's just everything else that changes."
no subject
She nodded. "Yeah. The way you make it sound, its just a new face, new look and a slightly different personality, but its still the Doctor. I get that."
no subject
As if Jamie actually has a choice in the matter. But he can't resist the urge to see if he can get a tiny bit of a rise out of Katara, even if it's only for a moment.
"And aye, that's pretty much it. Although I think mine might be in the pods, still." Maybe the rest of them, too. He's already traumatized Five with that particular thought. "I wonder how many of them there could be? He never did say..."
no subject
And that was news. "I still don't get there being more than one. The way you made it sound, the Doctor could get into and out of the worlds and stuff, so its not liked he's contained in one dimension, right? So how can there be two of him if he regenerates, or even more than that?"
What WAS Stacy's power anyway?
no subject
He sobers up quickly enough, however. "Och, Katara, I don't get it either. All I know is what I mentioned before." He shrugs. "Ye could try asking them, but I'm not sure they'd give ye any more of an answer than the one Doctor gave me."
It's much easier for him to accept that it just is. Things like, oh, it might be because they're two different Doctors from two different universes and not his Doctor at all? They haven't occurred to him.
What does occur to him, however, is that there's something else Katara mentioned earlier that he was considering trying - aside from the dancing. And since he really can't answer the other questions, maybe now is as good of a time as any to bring that up. It just involves a wee change of subject.
"Oh - while I'm here, I should maybe look for a swimsuit. I don't suppose the kilt would work well for that, aye?"
no subject
She just shook her head in amazement. "Sorry to start in on that, since you don't get it that much yourself. I'm still getting used to concepts like different dimensions and people coming here from different moments in time. I figured you might know a little more than I do about stuff like that."
At the mention of a bathing suit, Katara laughed a little. "No, I don't think you want to use your kilt as a suit. We can definitely get you one though: I've seen shopping around enough to take a look at a few."
No swimming briefs, of course: plaid trunks would be perfect for him!
no subject
No, better to concentrate on something easier. Like swimsuits. "Hey, I wonder if they have any plaid ones here?" There's a glance over to Katara, and he adds, "I might be willing to try a blue or a green in one of those, ye know. Did ye see any like that?"
no subject
Not getting out of it that easily, Jamie. Or are you?
"Of course they have plaid ones here, I've seen them!" Katara said, getting lost in all of the different selection that were available. "I've seen some green some blue, even a few purple and black! They would look really good on you!"
And she's off now to get a few selections of trunks for you Jamie.
no subject
He idly rummages through some more of the shirts while Katara is off trying to find swim trunks, and pulls out this rather hideous looking multi-colored one from the rack.
It's eyed with extreme skepticism. "Och, who would wear something like that?"
no subject
"I think someone who willingly goes to buy this is seriously looking for the attention!" Not that she thought that there weren't some people on the ship that would do this purely for that reason. In any case, she gave Jamie three swim trunks: a green one with a blue trim, a plaid colored one with dominant green and reds, and a dark plum one.
"Thoughts?"
no subject
He lets go of the plaid trunks and reaches for the dark plum one instead. "I'll try this one first, if ye don't mind."
no subject
She'd never seen him shirtless either, but Katara figured there was a first time for everything.
no subject
The trunks are longer than what he wore in the Sensoriums, and he's not sure he likes the way it looks on him. And even though he's used to the plantsuit and the feeling of things on his legs, he's also not sure he likes the fit - although, really, they fit fine.
"I don't know. It feels a wee bit strange."
Katara may never want to go shopping with Jamie again after this.
no subject
Katara was a very patient girl, and had more than enough experience with guys shopping. She had been with Aang and Sokka for a pretty long time to begin with, and had more than enough experience shopping for the crew.
no subject
He disappears into the changing room again, but seems to be gone rather longer this time. Possibly because he's hoping Katara will forget about what he's used to in swimsuits. He eventually comes out in the plaid, but he's got that same look on his face. "Och, these remind me of that elf suit."
no subject
When he came out in plaid with that look on his face, Katara clicked her tongue. "I CAN make is so that's comfortable if you let me," she said, then looked a little surprised. "Elf suit?"
no subject
If he can find something he likes without alterations, he figures that would be much easier. Especially if he wants to wear it while still on shore leave.
"Do ye remember the mission where we helped revive the Spirit of Christmas, and ye had those magic bags? I...uh...found the suit in one of them." Read, he saw someone else wearing something similar and was thinking about it when he opened the bag to look. "It wasn't plaid, mind ye, but the colors were the same."
no subject
Which made her wonder. "Now that you have the choice though, what WOULD you war when we go to places like these? I picked some clothing too, but that;s just me, and I had a friend help. What about you?"
Katara covered her mouth with her hand to stifle a giggle. "Okay, don't get me wrong, I really love the colors and style of your kilt, but I don't know if a whole outfit like that would really work."
no subject
Speaking of choices, though, he's got a fairly good idea of what he'd like to be in while on missions. Shrugging a little, he says, "I'd wear things like I picked out earlier, aye? A shirt, my kilt, a good sturdy pair of shoes or boots. Maybe a neckerchief or my sheepskin vest."
One thing he certainly wouldn't choose if he has any say in the matter is that elf outfit, and he nods firmly. "And aye, I agree. It might have been festive and all that, but I'll not wear that again."
no subject
She nodded. "That's fairly practical, even the kilt. Gives you more breathing room when you have to move around anyway, right? I always liked that kind of stuff you wear anyway. Though what would be the point of the neckerchief?"
She was glad about him not wearing the elf suit though. It didn't suit him.
"Isn't shopping fun?" Katara said, grinning. "I never get the chance to do it anymore, used to always have to when we were on the run from the fire nation and we needed supplies."
