Meet N' Greet

||All crew-mates. Please report to the Obs Deck to meet your new crew-mates.||

It's time for all the newbies to get a chance to have a formal meeting with the crew. Given the confusion of their arrival, that's probably a good thing.

Word gets out among the crew mates, spreading in a game of whisper down the meat-alley, that an informal crew meeting is what's happening, free from Stacy's prying ears, and sure enough, as soon as everyone's in the room, they're gestured to move in close, and a wall of blue energy goes up around them all.

((ooc note))

"Yeah, sure, whatever you say, Casper," Sawyer countered. "How 'bout you ask him--" He motioned to Dean. "--how that little plan worked out. And, call me crazy, but I thought she--" He pointed at Cybil. "--was supposed to be in charge? So what the hell is this 'Ax' person doin' makin' the decisions?"

"Your interpretation of events is spurious," chimes up the green guy. "Considering that what the Yeerks were trying to do was cripple Stacy's navigational systems along with the rest of her brain, thus eradicating our chances of getting home, and trying to infest or kill those they couldn't infest--one head wound in a man whose Yeerk chose to commit suicide and take its host with him when he realized it had no chance of its plans coming to fruition is not unreasonable. The information I gleaned from the Yeerk that attempted to control me made it abundantly clear that its species has conquering and destroying others fine-tuned into a science. They ultimately left the encounter with all of their number dead, their machine destroyed, and their plan foiled, while we only had one non-fatal casualty--admittedly a rather unfortunate one, but also one saved by the fast action of his crewmates--caused by a Yeerk giving up when it realized it couldn't win."

He goes on. "Furthermore, Aximili didn't know the ship had Yeerks on board until he witnessed my infestation. Before then, he was being cautious and trying to determine what crew members he could be sure were free of infestation to warn, and then if it seemed there were no Yeerks aboard, he planned to reveal himself. I was one of the first and we immediately went into action to determine if such a threat was on board or if he was being paranoid--with such paranoia being the more likely option."

He goes on, "Cybil herself, like a large portion of the crew, was infested long before the conflict even started--though after the first conflict, apparently--and still managed to convey leadership skills and decisions to her parasite, which was one of the Resistance and thus would do everything she wanted to assist the crew BUT tell the crew she was infested. Now, if you want to blame her for her infestation, feel free to, However, I think you'll find that those that were infested do not appreciate the assumption that they're ignorant or incompetent because of what was done to them."

He takes a deep breath and puffs out his chest, not with pride, but to help him deal with the overwhelming burden of responsibility.

"However, if anyone is to blame for what happened to Sam, it is myself. I had developed a means of determining if there was a kandrona generator on board, and I--I detected that there might be one, and went to investigate without alerting anyone else in the crew--even Ax--that I was going. I thought because I had dealt with such situations before, as a Legionnaire, that I would be able to handle the situation. I was wrong."

Another deep breath. "I could have warned the crew, and developed the method I did to scan for Yeerks to make sure who I was warning could be trusted. I am fully responsible for the escalation of this conflict and the injuries it caused, and if any blame is to be cast, it should be on me."

Yeah, all that went right in one ear and out the other where Sawyer was concerned. "Don't you have a cheerleader you should be flirting with?" he replied.

"Don't you have a bottle of alcohol you should be obliterating your only two brain cells with?"

He doesn't like you already, Sawyer.

"All right, Booger Brain, ya'll wanna know what I'd do different? How about this," Sawyer countered defensively.

"If I'm on a strange-@$$ alien ship with a rag-tag bunch of people and don't know why I'm there or what's waitin' for me on board, I, one, pick one spot, somethin' that's big, somethin' that's comfortable, somethin' that I can defend and make a base out of it.

"Two, I get it ready. I gather up as much food, as much water, as much medical supplies, and as many weapons as I can find and I ship it all there.

"And, three, once all that $h!t is in place, I start sendin' out teams to start mappin' this damn place out and tryin' to figure out what the hell is what. Meanwhile, people back at the base start gettin' some training on how to fight from those that know and learn how to defend the damn thing if for some reason we should, ya know, get attacked. Ya know, kinda like what apparently just happened to you guys, TWICE.

"But, either way, ain't no way I got a bunch people runnin' around this place like it's goddamn Disneyland, lettin' loose any other godforsaken thing that might be hidin' on this damn thing just waitin' for use to be stupid enough to let it go."

Sawyer paused, glaring at Brainy. He doesn't like you either.

"But, yeah, you're right, your way is workin' so much better. Ain't it?"

Before Brainy opens his mouth again, Cybil holds up her hand to silence him, looking Sawyer up and down.

"If I get through this meeting and the group hasn't voted someone else in charge, I want you on as an advisor. When we get to talking about defense, pay attention, and contribute anything else you think up once you hear what we've dealt with so far."

Whuuuuut? Nice job, Sawyer. Can't keep your mouth shut and look what happens, Tinker Bell gives you a job. Just what you weren't looking for.

Good thing for Cybil--and everyone else--that seems to catch the arrogant prick off-guard and shut him up.

Nathan added, "Some of us definitely think some organization is in orders. Departments, ranks?"
