Sooo...Meet-y

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their number. After the recent revelation, many of them were even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Brainiac 5 and Sensor were set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

"I can do more than that, ice and snow and flight." She giggled as the other woman was so shocked and amazed at her trick. Tora opened both hands and formed small ice columns in them spiraling towers of sparkling.. "Ice, it's what my teammates called me."

"Kul wahad! It is a true wonder, this this you do." Tentatively she reached to touch the ice and left her hand there until she hissed and withdrew it, shaking it to attempt to relieve the icy tingle where her fingertips hand gone numb as they rested against the ice. "Where I am from there is no such thing. Just rock and heat and sand as far as the eye can see."

Ice. Snow. Water. Arha's head swam with the possibilities.

"How do you do this thing? Does it come from moisture in the air or do you just...poof!" She gestured, her eyes huge. "...make it appear?"

[identity profile] olafsdotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Both, there must be some moisture to do it. But it is something magical, controlled by will and a connection to the elements."

Tora was delighted by Arha's wonder at the snow and ice. "I can make more, but this is too crowded to do so. Maybe in a more open area I could show you some really pretty snow."

"Ahh," Arha's eyes sparkled with glee as she brought her hands together in a girlish gesture she had not used since she was but three years of age. "The city is large and has much in the way of open spaces. This I can show you." She frowned momentarily, thinking. "I wish to say that Mr. Wednesday has made it cold before, but there were undead things and I was busy fighting. I paid little attention then, but this I see with attentive eyes, this snow and ice of yours. So long as Shai-Hulud remains untouched by the tiny frozen waters, I am content to see more of this. Aiee, but the Fremen of my homeworld would be truly astonished by this thing you do."

"Mr Wednesday?" Some ring of the familiar in that name, but it was gone as quickly as it came to her. Other who could make things cold sounded like people she needed to meet, there had been a number of villains who could do such things. There had been Sigrid before her of course, she had also been a heroine, but it bared looking into.

"I would be happy to show you more." Tora laughed lightly, a happy sound which carried. Another twist of her hand and a small light fluff of snow was cupped in her palms. One which she brought to her mouth and took a small bit in her mouth with hr tongue. "You can eat it as well, sometimes with sweet flavors or fruit juices. They call them snocones!"

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Snow...cones?" Arha's eyebrows winged their way practically into her hair. "Sweet flavors with little ice balls you eat? It is a creative thing, this. Your people have this this often, then? It is fascinating. One would not think to flavor such concoctions unless one had a long history with sweets such as that."

She looked thoughtful.

"I would be interested in these cones of snow."

[identity profile] olafsdotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"We'll have to find some flavoring and I can make many of them! I happen to enjoy them, but I grew up with lots and lots of snow, so maybe I am just used to it."

Tora was thrilled to be getting on so well with the first person she met. If everyone was this kind and nice she was sure she would be very happy on this ship.

"You have no snow or ice where you are from?" The idea sounded impossible.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"My world is of heat and sand, of trapped water under the surface in caches, and dust storms that are wild and like an encroaching wall. None but the sandworm can pass through them. It does not freeze and there is no cold season. It is sand, wind and rock, as far as the eye can see. And perhaps we may yet find some of this flavoring thing to try on your snow-cones," Arha said, the grin never quite fading from her lips.

"I do not know where we would find such a thing. Maybe we shall have to hunt for it if Stacy lets us off the ship long enough."

[identity profile] olafsdotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Tora listened, quite rapt as Arha painted a vivid picture of her world. One which swam in the pale dusty tones of sand and windswept rock. It sounded hauntingly beautiful.

"Once Bea, that's Beatriz my best friend, we went to the Painted Desert, it sounds much as you describe. Beautiful yet harsh in it's own way, it was nice to visit, but I think I am too well used to the cold to stay there too long.

"We can leave the ship? Will we visit strange places? Meet new people?" Hands clasped together in glee.

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, my Arrakis is always hot," she said. "To survive, we Fremen, and those who would go out into the sands, wear stillsuits that recycle our body's moisture in all its forms. One may live for a good while in the deep desert if one has a proper stillsuit."

She pursed her lips slightly.

"It is possible we may do such a thing as venture to other worlds. Even a ship such as this needs to restock and it seems that will will have tasks to do for Stacy as well," Arha said with a slight nod.

[identity profile] olafsdotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
So she was Fremen from Arrakis, safe to say Tora recognized neither name, but still she listened to her new friend and nodded as stillsuits were explained. Something which apparently recycled all bodily fluids, that sounded less than pleasant but it was amazing what one accepted to survive. Of course having been raised with it, it probably seemed second nature to the woman. To Arha it was as common as snow and ice was to Tora.

"Have you been to many other worlds? I haven't, my boyfriend," Was he? Things between Tora and Guy had been strained to say the least when he had left. "My friend Guy spends a good deal of his time in space, he is a Green Lantern, they are protectors of space. He doesn't find it all as exciting as I do though, Guy likes sports and beer and women in very little clothing." Even with that there was a small smile, oh her Guy was such a sweet hearted scamp.

"I have been but two places in my life, both had much to do with the desert. I have been to no worlds but those two and have spent very nearly a decade in the deep deserts of Arrakis. Travel is a thing for me that involves riding the great sandworms, though there are many, many planets and people where I am from. All are human, though. There are none like you in my Universe, though we have many with interesting abilities of the wind."

She smiled at the mention of Tora's boyfriend.

"It is good that you have someone who cares for you and has been to many places. I am sure the stories he has to tell are fascinating, even if he prefers such mundane things to the travel. One goes where duty sends them, mn? I can see why such a thing would be appealing after a time dealing with much in the way of exotic places."
