Sooo...Meet-y

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their number. After the recent revelation, many of them were even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Brainiac 5 and Sensor were set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

Diana had considered giving him a chance, that maybe he was from another world where he wasn't so sneaky (after all, people could change for the better.) But it seemed he was the same old snake in the grass she'd come to dislike, even though it was severely toned down from the version she knew. But did that make him evil or just incredibly shady?

"Endangering the crew hardly makes him sound trustworthy," Diana frowned, folding her arms and shifting her weight to one foot. (at least she was certain there was a crew now, but that wasn't really the point.) "Even after this, those of other worlds still place their faith in him? Have there been other incidents?"

"Just that one, so far as I know." Which put him more decidedly in the 'shady' category than outright evil. Though it was bad enough. "Unfortunately, Stacy said that she pulled not only the heroes from the worlds, but the villains as well because of their intelligence."

And God, he did NOT want to think about the Joker being in one of those pods. Really, really didn't.

"Sounds different than the Luthor we know." At least on the surface. "Though keeping an eye on him wouldn't be a bad idea."

Diana could only imagine what fun Circe would have on this ship. She was enough trouble, as it were, reviving Hippolyta for her games of revenge and torment. With all the men around, it wouldn't be any better.

"If that's the case," Diana pondered aloud, "What keeps everyone from tearing the other apart?"

"Don't worry. We are." Which meant the Bats. Because Bruce wasn't going to leave Luthor the run of the ship without keeping an eye on him.

He sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "There have been a couple of times that's been a near enough thing," he replied. "Though that was when we thought all we needed to do was get to the bridge and we'd be able to get home. Hopefully, the knowledge that we're all in this together, refugees and all, will help bring some of them more into line."

Somehow she couldn't really see the villainous types going for the teamwork aspect of this. Although this situation was a little more dire than any of them had encountered before. Perhaps with the destruction of their worlds, no their universes, the situation was somewhat different. Probably not, but one could always hope for the better.

"With all of us together, working side-by-side, perhaps villains will soon join us, seeing cooperation is a better choice." It was an ideal scenario, but hopefully, they'd join the group for the sake of the universe. Besides, they couldn't try to take over a world which wasn't there in the first place.

It wasn't the villains Dick was worried about. The heroes had a worse track record of arguing with each other, near as he could tell.

"Here's hoping, Diana," he said with a shake of his head. Then smiled. "Of course, you've always been one of the better ones at getting people to work together."

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
They did have their tendency to banter. Everyone had their differences, and with the League the size it was, there were a lot of differences. Was. The League was no more, though Diana and the others did want to start it up again. She wanted to believe it was because things were settling down, but in truth, that just wasn't the case.

She returned with a smile of her own. "I'll see what I can do." Which generally meant, she'd try to rally the troops, starting with allies and working out to new people.

Banter was one thing. The sort of arguments they got here were completely different. And Dick didn't know the League had been disbanded. That would be foreign to him, even if he had disbanded the Titans a few times himself.

If anything, though, Dick looked a bit relieved. "That's all we can ask of you," he said, then looked over the crowd. "I can't believe I didn't mention before, but Wally's here, too."

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Diana smiled. That's all she really wanted to do: give everything she had to help everyone restore their worlds (if that were possible and she dearly hoped it was). It was her choice and she was set on seeing it through.

"Wally as well?" A change of subject was always good. It was also good to hear other members of the former League were here as well. She'd have to find each one of them.

He nodded, glancing around again. "We've also got three Batmans." Paused. "Batmen?" Which was going to be fun because Bruce was more than enough for anybody, he thought. He shook his head. "One's Bruce, of course. And Stacy apparently decided Valley was required. He's the one in the metal cowl and he IS crazy. Maybe even moreso than he was before Bruce took him down.

"And then there's McGinnis. Who is from 2053. Apparently in his world, Bruce retired."

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Three? That took her by surprise. So did the last comment. "Bruce? Retired?" Now that was the most unbelievable statement she'd heard so far, even moreso than the time differences. She was certain Bruce would be Batman well into 100. She was also certain he was too stubborn to die so he'd live way past 100, as well.

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-03 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Dick laughed and nodded. "Retired. I know, I didn't believe it, either." But mostly because he was certain Bruce would be dead before he gave up the cowl and he was too much of a realist to believe Bruce could live forever.

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"It does leave me curious how Bruce took the news." She couldn't imagine him believing it, honestly. Though taking apprentices wasn't beyond him, handing the title off to someone else just seemed incredibly improbable.

"He seems to have taken it pretty well, actually." Though, really, who could tell with Bruce sometimes? "Near as we can tell, he's from an alternate universe. One where Babs is the commissioner in his time." A Babs who had never lost use of her legs.

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Bruce was probably brooding over it. Though the next thought came as somewhat of a surprise. "Alternate universe? Not only are there different times, but alternate ones as well?" This was beginning to sound like bubbles colliding into one strange central location.
goddamnwingman: (Default)

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-03 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "Yeah. At least, I'm pretty sure his is an alternate universe. Like I said, Babs being commissioner kind of cemented that one for me." As if Bruce retiring weren't enough. "It makes you wonder if there are alternate versions of ourselves in those caverns."

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"It really does." That sure was a strange thought. Alternate Dianas. Did they make the same choices as she did? She had made a lot of choices, and they made up who she was, who she had chosen to become. Were their lives similar to hers? Better or worse?
goddamnwingman: (Default)

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-03 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
He grimaced after a moment. "I take it back. There are alternate versions down there. At least of some people." Dick rubbed the back of his neck. "Brainiac 5 is here. Actually, there were two. The second one died when they were taking the bridge. Basically kept the ship from being blown to hell and back, but it cost him."

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The more she heard, it really sounded like this operation to take the bridge cost everyone dearly. Dick's grimace only furthered that assumption. A self-sacrifice, even, but it saved everyone in the end.

"Much has happened since you arrived, hasn't it? Hopefully not all is negative."
goddamnwingman: (Default)

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-03 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It had. Thankfully, Bruce and Tim had been fine. Dick wasn't sure what he'd do on the ship if he lost either of them. Or Jason. Or Terry, even. Soldier on, but it would be harder.

He turned toward the windows in the Obs deck and waved toward the Bleed. "I don't know. That sort of sight isn't something you see every day. I'm not saying it makes up for it all, but it's something." He shrugged. "And Jason's here. Which...is making things interesting, but he seems to be trying, at least."

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"It's better than nothing," Diana agreed. One crisis after the other would be so heartwrenching, especially if it involved losing people. She didn't want to go through that again. "A little bit of hope might be just what everyone needs."
goddamnwingman: (Default)

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-04 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"You know me. I'm not the kind to turn down a little hope." Dick smiled at that.

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Diana returned the smile. "You'd worry me if you did," worried that the situation had gotten to him. Then again, this was Dick. He was a strong hero.
goddamnwingman: (Default)

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-04 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
When it came to being strong, he'd had a lot of really good examples to live up to. Not that he wasn't strong on his own, but the others helped. Starting with Bruce.

He reached out his hand for hers again. "I'm really glad you're here, Diana." Especially if their hosts were telling the truth.

[identity profile] diana-inthecia.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
She took his hand with a warm smile. "I'm glad to be here to lend my strength." Again, given their hosts were telling the truth. Diana would like to believe she hadn't been kidnapped but instead recruited to help those in need, but nothing was as it seemed. She'd learned that well enough with the events of the Crisis.
