Sooo...Meet-y

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their number. After the recent revelation, many of them were even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Brainiac 5 and Sensor were set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

Terry wasn't too surprised to get a curt answer back. He did have a ten year old brother, after all, he was used to kids not knowing what's best for them.

But his surprise was coming from something else that the kid had said.

"Robin? What?" He paused, thinking. Okay, maybe there's yet another one that he hasn't heard about. But that just raised another question, "...jeez, how many kids did the old man have running around with him?"

Damian frowned. "The old man? What are you talking about? Who are you?"

"Uh, Mr. Wayne. Bruce," Terry corrected himself. It was weird enough not having people know who he meant when he used 'the old man', and even weirder that Bruce had asked him to call him by his first name. It took some getting used to.

"I'm Terry. Terry McGinnis. I'm Batman, after Bruce is." After Jean-Paul, too, but he was feeling upset about getting attacked, so he didn't mention him. "I'm talking about how many Robins Bruce had. I don't even really have one sidekick, but I've met three of his old ones."

Damian frowned. "What are you talking about? Grayson became Batman after Father died, and I'm Robin to him, not to Father. How do you know all our names?"

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"What? Grayson was Batman?" Well, that was a nice big shock. Terry'd certainly never heard about this. He took a deep breath - this was probably another case of the whole alternate universe thing.

Terry took a good look at the kid. "Well, I know some of the Robins names because Bruce or the Commish told me. But sure as hell I don't know you."

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I see no reason why I should tell you. And Grayson is Batman."

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Terry scowled just a bit. This little twip was trying his patience. Not like he had much to begin with, being an angry teenager, but still. "Why would Bruce even let Grayson become Batman? I'm official Batman in my time and he still hasn't really given the title up."

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Father died," Damian said blankly. "He didn't have much of a say in the matter after that."

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, now that little scowl was becoming a full-grown one. "I'm gonna assume you're talking about Bruce," he said, though he was a bit confused about all the 'father' talk. But he assumed it was just because the older Batfamily was closer to Bruce then he was, and thought more about him as a father figure. "What do you mean, he died?"

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Damian rolled his eyes at that. "Obviously. And I mean exactly what I said. Darkseid killed him."

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Darkseid...?" The name sounded a little familiar. Terry thought he might have seen it in the Justice League's computers, or maybe in the Batcave's. It wasn't important, though. "When?" He demanded, "When did this happen?" No, Bruce wasn't dead. He couldn't be... could he?

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Several months ago. What's it to you? There's still a Batman and a Robin." He didn't really want to talk about this.

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well that's too bad, Damian, because Terry's not going to let you off the hook now.

"There's not always a Batman and Robin," Terry said darkly. Spoken by someone who grew up in a world without them. He shook his head - this wasn't the important thing right now. "No," he said, trying to focus, to calm down, "I mean, what year did it happen?"

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Two thousand nine. Why? What year do you think it is?" He narrowed his eyes. "Shouldn't you know this? If you're supposedly Batman?"

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't 'think' it's any year," Terry snapped, "I know that the year I was grabbed from was Twenty fifty-three. Not like it matters here, anyways."

Really, though, 2009. That was a long time ago, by Terry's standpoint. A long time before he was born. But Bruce was around in his time.

"And I'm not supposedly Batman, I am Batman," he growled.

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course you are," Damian said. Really, it's amazing how condescending someone so small can be. "Fine, you're from the far distant future. How nice."

[identity profile] beyondgotham.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Terry will not hit a child. Terry will not hit a child. Terry will not hit a child. He doesn't need to break the other hand, after all.

"Look," Terry said, "I don't need to prove myself to you. I've proven myself to Gotham enough times already. But I am from your future, and the old man is still alive in my time."

[identity profile] better-robin.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm. Maybe Drake actually succeeds, then." He sounded pretty dubious about the chances of that being true. "People don't always stay dead, I suppose."
