Hail the Conquering Heroes

Things can happen without Stacy knowing, that much is apparent now. The damage to her sensors is significant. But the fighting clued her in.

After it's all over, after those captured have been rescued, after the injured have been tended to, only the nest is left, and Stacy takes care of it.

||Infestation of Cluster 42, Level 4, Sector 7, Sublevel 12, Zone 37 has been detected. Triggering internal defenses. Decontamination commencing.||

There is a pause.

||Decontamination complete.||

Simple as that, once she knows the problem was there. Her internal sensors are damaged, especially in the city, and so are some of the systems monitoring them. You have to know what's broken to know to fix it.

Such a simple thing and it only took one man dying to make it happen. (His body is gone, by the way, ripped to shreds and eaten. There's not even a spot of blood on the floor. That's the bugs' doing. The bugs' bodies are gone too--that's Stacy's doing).

||Any injured personnel that still have not received medical attention, report to the nearest lift, and you will be transported to the MedBay. Any uninjured personnel, report to the Living Area, to the restroom facilities to undergo decontamination of xenobiological material. Then report to the Obs Deck to meet your new crew-mates.||

Said crew-mates--and the Doctor, who'd skipped out and miraculously ducked and weaved his way to the lift when he'd realized the Master was there--are there and waiting, and just a tad confused.

After crazy-strong hugging that'd have probably killed most men, he held her at arm's length. "I'm so glad you're here! Well, except for the part where being here sucks, but you know what I mean. I wonder if us both being here means Kal's somewhere in the pods..."

Kara looks down at Kon's mention of Kal. She bites her lip for a moment before looking back at her cousin. "Yeah...somewhere." She looks up at him, a warm smile playing across her lips. "I'm glad you're here too. It's, like, way better than just being stuck here with cabbage butt and his omnicrud."

"I know something as complex as a name is difficult for your insubstantial Kryptonian brain to remember, so I'll repeat once again: it's Brainiac Five," Brainy says to Kara in a very dry voice.

He turns to Kon. "Your...relation has a rather alarming fixation with my rear end. As her family member, I would suggest getting her some sort of professional assistance when we've all gotten ourselves home."

Kara looked at Brainy. Then she looked at Kon. Then she looked at Brainy again. "Kon?" she asked. "Hold these," she peels off her cape and belt and shoves them in his direction. "The green one wants to open a can of cherry flavoured Kryptonian whup-ass and I'm going to let him taste some of it!" She whirled around and brought her fist back to throw it into Brainy's face.

"Now now, cuz, I know getting blood on your cape is a big fashion faux pas for chicks, but you can kick his butt perfectly fine without getting him bloody. Besides, being a jerk is Brainy's way of making friends."

Kon slings an arm around Brainy's shoulders, grinning even more as the green alien stiffens up.

"Ain't that right, buddy?"

"You're touching me. I have no disinfectant, no access to a sonic shower and I'm now likely contaminated with your grungy lifetime's worth of 21st century bacteria and fungi--"

"See? He's insulting my hygiene."

"--accumulated over a lifetime of improper bathing--"

"That means we buds," said Kon, fully enjoying his torment of Brainy.

Kara sighs. "Really? From Ti...Robin to cabbage butt? Kon, that's like twenty steps down. Even if Ti...Robin is, y'know, human."

Tim raised an eyebrow. He'd been on his way back to Kon, when he'd caught Supergirl's remark, and that was just... Rude. "You're not bad yourself. For an alien," he added, smirking slightly.

Hey--no good Robin took an insult lying down.

"Oh yeah, by the way, Rob's here and right behind you," Kon said to his sort-of cousin helpfully.

Kara's eyes widened at the sound of the familiar voice. She glared at Kon and snarked in a hushed tone, "No. Really?" And then Kara turned around, a sheepish smile forming on her face. "Robin! Fancy, uh, seeing you. Here. On this ship. Far away from home. With your, ah, best friend."

Tim's grin was a little sharp as he regarded Supergirl. "Mmhm. Trust me--I'm just as surprised to see--and hear--you here." He tapped his own ears. "Not super or anything, but they do the trick when I'm... oh, about three feet away."

"Ah, at last! Someone of at least moderate intelligence," Brainy says, of Robin. "Our situation isn't looking as hopeless after all."

Kara looks between Robin and Brainiac and frowns. "Excuse me? Kryptonian super-mind here?"

"What are you talking about? You read teenage girl books and stuff. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Trousers ain't exactly high literature."

He was required to tease. Familial obligation.

"Hey! Gossip Girl is good reading!"

"If you're in junior high school," Kon said, floating around her, just out of arm's reach.

"I...hey!" Kara rises up in the air as she reattaches her cape. "It's better than Penthouse!"

"It has good articles!"

A pause.

"Or so I've heard."

"I think you have Penthouse confused with Playboy, sweetie," Kara says. "Playboy has the quote-unquote articles."

"See? My lack of knowing that proves I'm completely unfamiliar with both of them."

"I...hey! No!" Kara's mouth dropped open. And then she grinned. "It's really good knowing you're here." A beat. "So you're reading Hustler then?"

"No way. Hustler's kinda gross and demeaning and stuff. I have some class, y'know. Juggs has chicks that kinda look like normal chicks, just with big boobs. And there's also Erotic Amazons, which aren't really Amazons, but they're all muscular--"

He stops, as he realized what he just admitted and to who.

"Tell Cassie any of that and you DIE!"
