Get you Gone

The meeting is over, the teams have been assigned, the plans have been laid out. It's time to get weapons.

It's time to wish each other luck, and say goodbyes--with the hope that they're only "good bye for now"s.

It's about to get very hairy from here on out.

Static was beginning to feel shifty. He barely knew anyone on the crew (he'd only been here a few days, and most of that was used trying to adapt to the sleeping pods. NOt to mention the showers...), and everyone he did know seemed to be going with him. Expect for Terry. He'd charged up the batteries on what devices he could for the crew, so what was left now? Just standing around and waiting.

He was never very good at waiting.

Katara walked over to Static a moment, her hand taking his a second. She gave ot a squeeze, if only to reassure both him and her. It was that anticipating dread she had, slight but still settling at the pit of her stomach. It was a lot like when they invaded the Fire Nation, but at least then they had an idea of what they were facing.

"Good luck," she said, giving him a grin. "If we get something pretty hostile, I'll be looking for you to repeat what we did to that dummy. Let's hope it won;t come to that though."

"If we get something big 'n bad, you better believe I'm gunning my way over to you. After all, every little bit, right?" Static's stomach was twisting in a bit of a knot..

They weren't actually saying it, but this seemed less like an 'I've got your back' conversation and more like a 'here's my will, hold onto it' conversation. Hopefully, she wouldn't do anything stupid; she didn't really seem like the type for that. But, then again, Virgil knew himself; he was exactly the type for stupid heroics. And after the Dark Side Club, he felt more like a vet than ever, and what's a vet good for if not giving his life so others could live?

"I'll be watching," Katara said, winking. And that was a promise. The weapons these guys were taking with them, the kind of powers that were in their world: they'd need every advantage they could get. These weren't just some scary guys in masks.

Though Katara wished she could remember why she had this feeling before.

She gave Static a long look that he him know, point blank, that hse had no intention of having him or anyone in this team get killed. She would do whatever she had to and make sure that was maintained.

"Just be ready to dance magic dance. Maybe jump a magic jump, too." What? Dated pop culture references to someone from another planet could work. Maybe. Okay, it may not properly relieved some of the tension, but it was all Static had going for himself.

Katara just looked very, very confused.

"Um, I really have no idea what that is, but I'm sure its your way of saying we have to be ready and alert, and ready to...you know....go down for the cause."

"Well, actually it was a shot to try and lighten the mood and get this damn song out of my head. It's really not 'marching off to war' appropriate. But, yeah, what you said, too." He smiled and hummed a few bars.

She still was a little confused about what Static was talking about, but she was sure he would tell her after all of this was over. She had watched people exchange items and give their heartfelt goodbyes, but Katara would only wish her friends good luck.

Goodbye was not about to be in her vocabulary again.

"Let's go then," she said.

Static made a small mock bow. "After you, m'lady." When he straightened up, the joke was gone from his face; things were gonna get real serious, real fast.

"Static..."

There is someone here to say goodbye and good luck.

"You said Eddie--" He cut himself off. "Well, one, if there's a way to save him from that, with the time travel tech of the ship, without messing up the timeline, we're going to. "Two..."

It has to stop.

"Look, that thing, that keeps happening to us? To the Titans? Try not to keep up the trend, okay?" Jaime says, as he suits, up, looking around. He keeps his face unmasked for now.

No dying. No more dying.

He holds out his hand to clasp Static's.

Static grabbed Jaime's hand in a tight grip. "Trends are meant to be broken, man. I'm aiming to shoot that one down as soon as we can. Besides, when you consider just how many Titans we've got here who are supposed to have died, well, we can't really let that happen, can we? I mean, Cassie'd kill us if we did, and that's just more death." He smiled, only half fake. "I'll be fine, man. You keep your eyes peeled, too. And maybe listen to the scarab about force on some of this."

Something he'd learned working in Dakota kept playing through his mind - 'all the bravado in the world can't stop a bullet, but it can help your friends avoid one.'

"Good luck, man." The armor snaps over his face, and Jaime smiles.

It's the last time in a long time Static, or anyone else, is going to see that.
