Mix-and-Mingle

After the most recent pod-pop had been completed, Stacy began encouraging the crew towards the Obs Deck. They would be most effective if they were familiar with each other, and as the Jaime Reyes Incident had proved, leaving them to meet whenever they happened to cross paths was not effective.

Anyone who stepped into the Hub would be transported to the Obs Deck, no matter where they had intended to go. Those who had been exploring the City were verbally herded towards the Hub, although the energy tentacles did not make an appearance.

||Please report to the Obs Deck for Crew Introductions.||

The Obs Deck hadn't changed very much since they'd last been there. The creepy sculpture was still present, as were the fleshy couches. However, the couches were arranged in a more obvious circle this time.

Come and meet the new -- and in some cases, weirder -- members of your crew.

Kate likewise stared at the couch. She still didn't want to sit on those things either.

"Not really, and maybe a little curious? Even if this feels more like homeroom with the reporting in. I almost expect Stacey to start calling roll."

"Maybe we could haul some furniture up from the city area," Paco said. "It comes out. I helped Wednesday out with one of the buildings. Apparently it was some kind of Norse temple before it got boarded over. It was cool."

"Oh man, I hope she doesn't pull out those break-the-ice games," he groaned. " 'Come up with an animal that starts with the third letter of your middle name', 'tell us something that no one knows about you' -- blech. We're not five."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? And oh, Wednesday. Is it just me, or does he weird you out a little too?"

She lightly nudged him with her elbow, "Way to go, genius, now she will since you gave her the idea."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Paco shrugged. "Yeah, he's a bit weird. More than the usual guy-from-another-universe weird, but I figure he's just got super powers or something that he's keeping on the down-low. I mean, 'Wednesday'? Gotta be some kind of secret-ID angle."

He groaned theatrically and covered his head with his hands. "Nooo, not day-camp! Anything but day-camp!"

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think it's just that, called some of us the coming gods once. When I got into that argument with the Tony Stark who's from another and earlier version of my world, Wednesday called us that. I don't know."

She shook her head, and then added, "Hey, camp's not so bad, just have to find the more creative one to go to."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Some sort of crazy prophecy guy maybe?" Paco said. "They're always going on about weird things that only make sense after whatever they were talking about happens." He shrugged. "It could be that we're going to land on some planet and the aliens will worship us as gods. It's been known to happen."

See Brenda: the planet-destroying goddess of flesh-eating, alien squirrels.

"I dunno, there's only so many times you can scavenger-hunt across town before you empty your water bottle over the nearest person just to keep your brain from dying."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Not on any planets I know of, but I guess? Not even sure which universe we're in now either."

Kate paced around a few steps as she considered, "I think any activities we get probably won't be like that. Or it'll be a warped version that hurts our heads."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
"It helps if the aliens are squirrels," Paco said with a grin. His expression changed to a more serious one. "You're right. Any activities Stacy has planned is probably more along the lines of whatever she kidnapped us for."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Anything special about the squirrels? Or just regular alien squirrels?"

Kate nodded, "Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I hope she's not sending us into a battle soon. I'm an Avenger, not a soldier. I can't kill someone."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
"They managed to survive a death-trap planet and tried to eat Brenda before she teamed up with a huge muscular guy with a forehead full of justice," Paco said. "Or so I've heard. I did say that I missed all the fun space adventures."

"Killing's not exactly my first choice either," Paco said, tilting his head back to stare up at the ceiling. He'd never been in a situation where it would come up, aside from when the Reach had attacked. But the Reach had been easy, they'd been trying to kill him -- and Brenda and the Reyeses and even Milagro -- to hurt Jaime so they could kill him. And then blow up the planet and enslave the survivors.

But killing someone wasn't exactly something he liked thinking about.

"There are always kneecaps," he tried to joke.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
"By the sound of it, so did I. On the missing out part. Only ran into the aliens that came to my world."

Kate nodded, "Arrow through the hand's a great distraction too. They usually drop their guns then."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-03 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
"The ones that come visiting are usually less likely to do the worshipping," Paco agreed. "I guess if they have the tech to get to Earth, they're not going to be awed and amazed."

"I'll take your word for it," he said, relaxing. "I'd probably miss by a mile."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-04 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope, Skrull and Kree definitely weren't the worship types. Only thing they like is fighting."

She smiled, and admitted, "Well, it does take a little practice."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-04 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"We need more aliens like Superman," Paco grumbled. "Seriously, what's with the world-domination theme?"

"Well, maybe you could give me a few lessons," he said with a grin. "I'd be up for that if you would."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Superman? And I don't know, I think a lot of them just get bored, and can't think of anything better to do."

Kate smiled, "I could, you ever want to stop by. I'm usually training in the Sensoriums most mornings."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"He's one of the big super heroes back home," Paco said. "He's an alien from the planet Krypton, but he's been voted a world citizen by the U.N. Pretty much the nicest guy ever, from what I've heard."

"Awesome, I'll drop by some time," Paco said, grinning back. Weapons training with a hot girl. Score.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh, sounds a good guy. Cap probably would have liked him."

She added with a smirk, "Could also spar or give you some pointers on other fighting styles. *If* your fragile male ego can handle being beaten by a *girl?*"

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Everyone likes Superman. Batman likes Superman, and Batman doesn't like anything."

"My male ego is surprisingly sturdy," he replied with a wink. Last year, an entire class had put their spring trip money on Brenda kicking his ass. The ego, it was sturdy. "I don't hit girls, though."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Wouldn't know Batman either."

Kate nodded, "all right, but don't expect me to hold back either way. Not much of a sparring session though, and it's different. If we are going to have to fight, whatever we face, they'll hit anyone."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"It wouldn't be much of a principle if I dropped it every time I got kidnapped by an alien spaceship," Paco joked. Seriously though, guys didn't hit girls. Not guys who deserved to spend any time with women.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
No and she'd agree to such sentiment. But sparring, opponents are to be on equal ground.

"All right. You might reconsider that principle after I kick your ass a couple of times."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sparring definitely required equal-footing. Which is why he felt weird about the idea of sparring with a girl. Even a girl who could easily kick his ass.

"It's survived eight years of angry redhead," Paco said with a grin. "Bring it on."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah? Well let's see how you handle angry brunette."

[identity profile] flunkingspanish.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can't wait."
