Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Mia, not having found Jaime, was wandering around to see if anyone was in need of help.

She noticed a scornful old lady. Oh well, what other place to start was there?

"Are you alright, Miss?"

Dr. Kureha's head turned to face the young woman who was now approaching her. Ignoring what she had actually asked her, she respondedwith:

"What's that? You want to know the secret of my youthful appearance?"

Mia raised an eyebrow. The woman's body language, her tone, and the inane nature of the question reminded her of a few of her teachers on the island.

Go with it. She smiled and nodded. "Yes please."

That was unusual, usually people didn't actually ask her. She rallied quickly, though, and snapped: "Early to rise and early to bed makes a man healthy, wealthy and dead."

Cryptic answerdone with, she crossed her arms at the young girl. "You're a cheeky one, aren't you? Asking an old lady if she's alright."

Mia grinned. "Yep. Eat right, exercise, die anyway."

She shrugged, cocking a hip to one side as she put her hands on her waist. "I try to help out around here. For most crew members, it's not every day they fall out of a slime pod and get issued clothes that are technically alive."

Kureha chuckled. "My dear, when you live to the ripe age of 139, you'll find that you aren't so easily surprised anymore."

Not that she would admit to being surprised. That would damage her image.

Mia smirks. "Yeah, my mentor says something like that too. Well, is there anything you need explained about this place? What kind of skills do you have? I can probably direct you towards the appropriate other selectees."

"I, young missy, am a doctor, and a better one than you're likely to ever encounter, even on Drum island."

She looks more than a little smug as she says this.

Mia smiles. "Well, we're always happy to have more of them. You'll have to meet with Dr McNinja, I think he's our current chief of medical staff, along with Dr Grey."

She shrugs apologetically. "Sorry, but I've never heard of Drum Island. You'll probably get reactions like that a lot around here. Most of the selectees come from different worlds."

"I'll look forward to meeting him," she said, even though she wasn't. She was never a play-nice-with-others type of doctor. And frankly, she doubted that this clown would be anywhere near as good as she was. Perform snap-judgements? The Doctor? Never.
