Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Lafiel almost breaths a visible sigh of relief. Almost. Chief is always so dependable..."I understand that if we are unsuccessful in our larger mission there will not be an Abh Empire left to defend, sir. There are provisions in our military law that allow the disobedience of an order if that order threatens the safety and integrity of our Empire. Due to the nature of this ship and our mission, any disobedience of, or attempt to circumvent the chain of command on this vessel by an Abh officer here would therefore be an act of treason." These are the mental gymnastics she has gone through to attempt to see Chief's point. He provided her the pommel horse and parralel bars.

The Master Chief is no stranger to rules lawyering on the chain of command, the best example being the Lieutenant-circumventing "I have a mission from High Command, ergo I am boss."

"Exactly," he replies. "Though it's proper to show due respect to your superiors as long as they do nothing to obstruct our mission," he adds. "A proper military officer will know better than to do so."

He hopes, anyway. Ambition can end messily and he has seen it happen more than once. In general though, it seems that most crew members settle into the way the ship runs well enough even if there might be a few hitches at first. Lafiel's hinting, however, makes him wary.
