Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

"What happened to you?" Wednesday asks. He's already picked up on Kazuki's newness to the whole 'near-blind' situation.

"Assimilation phenomenon," he says. "I was given a compound made from alien DNA as a child in order to pilot Nothung model Fafners, but it also causes problems the more I pilot them."

He'd seen what happened to Sakura. He was only thankful it wasn't as bad for him...yet.

Wednesday pauses. Well, that's... strange.

"Seems a little counter-productive," he says, mulling the whole idea over.

Kazuki shrugs slightly.

"It was something that had to be done. Normal Fafners didn't have the power to fight the Festum, and the Nothung model Fafners were too powerful to pilot without it."

"Hmm, then... what is 'the Festum'?" the old man asks, looking rather befuddled about the whole situation.

"Aliens that were trying to assimilate all sentient beings in order to bring everything into non-existence. We figured out a way to make them stop, but I don't know how that went."

"Oh, that's... quite a situation," Wednesday says, those big eyebrows of his pushing upwards. "Hopefully one with a positive resolution... if that's the kind of thing you're used to, anyway, you may be rather helpful here."

Strangely, Kazuki doesn't look put off by the thought of helping out at all.

"I'll definitely do what I can," he says with a quiet confidence.

Wednesday smiles. "I think you'll find yourself in good company, here. Oh—those others I mentioned. There's a..." His face twists just a moment as he yanks things out of his memories. "—woman named Meluly, black skin and tattoo patterns, and a boy named Kira Yamato, rough brown hair and he's kind of innocent-looking. And two boys named Vega and Jamie—they're a little younger than Kira, shorter hair... I don't know much about what they... pilot," and he's not really sure if that's the right word, "but you might want to talk to them."
