Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Marcus gives the kid randomly walking up to him a slightly baffled glance, then shrugs. "Two, maybe two and a half. Skynet's not usually this subtle, and I've been here for a while and nothing's happened." ... well, it all depends on how you'd classify Marcus on the subtlety scale, really.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Two and a half." John nods and sighs, slightly, before squaring his shoulders. "You know what? I can fucking live with two and a half. Although all this eldritch stuff is getting old, fast." If he has to explain Lovecraftian again, well, John will deal. "So what is the story here anyway?"

Or asking for the man's name might be a good idea, kiddo.

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"... all the what?" Marcus asks, blinking. Prison doesn't exactly have the best choice in reading materials ever, and Marcus never paid much attention in school.

"Besides that we've been kidnapped by a living spaceship and basically conscripted into an army to fight some kind of genocidal aliens? Not a hell of a lot." That's the story in a nutshell, really.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
He sighs again. "Lovecraftian. God, be glad that apparently the future doesn't bother with horror stories, Skynet is enough. It looks like this. Living, breathing, scary shit."

Assumptions, John can have them. Marcus is now mentally grouped into 'people from the future'.

"...This doesn't look like an army. There are too many children." Says the older teenager but what?

[identity profile] godelsolution.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, did John make a friend? Allison will just wander on over here after having been elsewhere for a moment. "You're resistance?" What? She can see the patch, ok.

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Marcus is now officially surrounded by teenagers. He's not entirely happy about the idea. "You're just a kid too, and Stacy wanted you for some reason." Marcus points out. Not that he knows who he's talking to, but Marcus has to be twice their age.

Allison's question is ignored. If she can see the armband, she can make her own assumptions.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Avoiding questions and pointing out John's age (or lack thereof) gets a rather cold expression from him to Marcus. "Yeah people have been wanting me before I was born. It's not fun."

It's also not some oddly dirty joke, no matter what it sounds like. "So, she asked a question. You know Skynet so you're obviously something one of us might be familiar with."

He totally means as far as organizations, not...that you aren't human. John hasn't thought of that yet.

[identity profile] godelsolution.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
He could be an infiltrator. And his lack of questioning is making her nervous. So clearly, she's thought of that yet. "Something. Right."

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
He could indeed be an infiltrator. Not that he's going to admit to that unless he absolutely has to, for obvious reasons. "I'm not Resistance, no." Marcus says. They'll take the coat off of him when hell freezes over, but he's certainly not Resistance.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"...Then what's with the coat?" Squinty John is squinty. "What's your name anyway?"

[identity profile] godelsolution.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Here, Marcus. Have an Allison staring at you with suspicion. She'd like to know what's with the coat too. "Are you a gray?" Would he even say?

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Am I a what?" Yeah, Marcus has no idea what you're talking about, Allison.

"I needed a coat, and the guy I took this from wasn't going to need it any more." Marcus says with a shrug. It... well, to be honest, it sounds pretty bad, but he did need the coat and the guy was a T-600 casualty.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
John doesn't know what the hell a Gray is, specifically, but he's heard the term before. Nothing good, anyway.

"Name?" Come on, Marcus, answering one question and not the other isn't the way to go.

[identity profile] godelsolution.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
It certainly gets her eyes to narrow, doesn't it? "...do you have a name?"

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Marcus Wright. Do you have names?" Marcus returns, giving the two teenagers a suspicious glare. Three people can play the I-don't-trust-you game, even if two of them are on the same side.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"John Connor." And since he's pretty sure Marcus here is from Allison's present and he doesn't want to go through the BS of making up another name on the spot, have at it.

[identity profile] godelsolution.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Allison Young." And she sure as hell doesn't know anyone named Marcus Wright. Or John Connor, honestly.

But she's known John longer.

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Marcus doesn't know an Allison Young, either. He knows a John Connor, though, and he might be panicking a bit. "... what." Marcus says incredulously. "You can't be John Connor."

... this is probably even-more-awkward-question time, isn't it?

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"...What the fuck?" It really, really is. "You know something, spilling would be good. Like, now."

[identity profile] godelsolution.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good. Her turn to be seriously confused. "...why can't he be John Connor?"

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I've met John Connor, and you're not him. Too young, for one thing." Marcus says slowly. Too quiet for another, and not desperately in need of a cough drop, but everything's telling him that this isn't John Connor.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Welcome to the joys of time travel, Marcus Wright." John is now glaring at you. "Normally I'd offer to show you some kind of ID but it's never had my real name and I don't even have a fucking birth certificate but I am really tired of dealing with the repercussions of things I haven't done YET."

[identity profile] godelsolution.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm never ever heard of John Connor." Muttering to herself. Oh, Allison.

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"... time travel?" ... well, that sounded more like John Connor (ie.- completely out of his mind) to Marcus. And Marcus is also pretty sure that no one wants to deal with the repercussions of what future-John-Connor did, including him.

[identity profile] antitachyonic.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"You're not missing much," John mutters in reply to Allison.

Marcus gets a normal-volumed reply, however. "Look. It's real, sorry to break it to you. Skynet and the Resistance uses it and I would love to hear what it is that I've done to freak you out so badly."
