Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

"Stacy's got the crew organized into away teams, Alpha through Tango now I think," he says. "She'll tell you your assignment. I don't have any one team, I get shuffled where I'm needed." He misses the certainty of having a squad, it's harder to integrate himself effectively into a changing structure. The Chief's a Spartan, and Spartans hunt in packs.

"The away teams are for organization when she sends us on missions, which she's only done once before but it seems like they're going to become a regular part of life here." He doesn't seem very excited about that. The mission was, to his mind, a bit of a fiasco.

"Besides the groups Stacy's put us in we have some departments of our own that've evolved. The engineering crew, the security team, medical staff, things of that nature. The command structure's not complicated, there's Captain Picard and Commander Kirk are our ranking officers, then Cybil Bennett and myself as LC's."

She would have laughed if she thought he was kidding, but from the looks of him, he didn't have a sense of humor. She blinked a few times and took all the information in. Picard and Kirk. They had to be just common names right? No way they could be the ones from that TV show and movies. That would just be crazy. And even for all the Avenger's craziness, no where had she actually met a fictional character before.

"Sounds like everything's pretty organized then. It'll be nice to be apart of an actual structure again. But I have a question. You obviously know a few people around here, any clue if anyone's called themselves an Avengers?" She had to try. Even if it was a long shot.

The Chief shakes his head. "I don't know if anyone's called themselves an Avenger, but I don't know the history of many of the crew members. Ask around, you might find something." In honesty, he can't really say he knows anyone here too well except Kelly and that's because Kelly is "family". The Chief's never been good at making friends outside the confines of the Spartan project and being here, while it's forced him to be a little more sociable, hasn't taught him any social skills.

She had thought that maybe he'd be more in the know about the crew, but she wasn't all that surprised that he didn't know most of the details. He didn't seem like the type to sit around sipping coffee and talking shop. Which was good, but also bad. "I'll do that. Just thought maybe you'd be able to narrow down the search. But if they aren't screaming about it, I'm not surprised. Unless it's Spider-Man, then that's a bit of a surprise."

"That's a name I know." He reflexively looks up, it's just a quick flick of the eyes toward the obs deck ceiling and back down again when they confirm a certain webslinger isn't there.

"Spider Man is aboard, but your guess is as good as mine where he might be. Probably better than mine if you know him."

Carol was a bit shocked. Peter was on board? Well that was good news, or it would be if she could find him. For all she knew he could be stuffed in some locker somewhere. Some of these people looked like they wouldn't take kindly to his sense of humor.

"That's great news. It'll be nice to see him again."

"He's hard to miss unless he wants to be," says the Chief, nodding. "Probably glad to see a familiar face." That's probably true of most of the crew anyway. Spider-Man is far from the quietest of the podlings he's met, in particular he remembers a heavy political argument with him involved at one of the last big crew meetings.

"Is there anything else you need, Captain?" The Chief tends toward ranks, it's how he was raised. It's hard to go wrong with those.

Carol would have melted if she was any other girl. The way he just said Captain, it was enough to cause her heart to beat just a few beats faster. Childish really.

"No I think that should cover it for right now. Thank you for your help."

"No problem," he replies, giving another short nod of acknowledgment before falling back to his observations. Carol Danvers. Another addition to the list of people he's spoken with, which is always good. He really needs to start getting to know the crew better.
