Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Luna blinks, her head tilting to the side. "Did I say anything about Hogwarts? I don't remember saying anything about Hogwarts. Maybe a Wrackspurt has gotten to me." A pause. "It's a lovely school, though. Our headmaster is wonderful. Lots of people think he's losing his marbles, but he's just as sane as I am, and much cleverer." Her admiration shines in her eyes though her voice maintains its level, dreamy tone.

A faint smile curves her lips. "Speaking of cleverness," she murmurs. "You should be a Ravenclaw. You can teleport?" Though the two things seem unrelated, in Luna's mind, the segue between Hogwarts Houses and teleportation is very logical. And, incidentally, she would be quite thrilled if she got her tea.

"Well no you didn't. But you're Luna Lovegood, you go to Hogwarts, and you're in Ravenclaw." He gave her a small smile. "I think Dumbledore is brilliant. Nothing in the world would ever get to me question that." Unless you compared him to Gandalf, then Billy'd had to keep his mouth shut.

"I would have loved to be sorted into Ravenclaw. I've always been more about studying then heroics anyways." Not so much in more recent years, but Luna didn't need to know that. "Oh yeah, I can teleport and create things. I can do a lots of stuff." He blinked for a minute and focused on his hand. He started to mutter under his breath, asking for the tea Luna had wanted. After a brief bright spark, the cup of tea sat in his hand. Burning slightly. He picked it up and offered it to Luna a small smile on his face.

"Sort of like that."

Luna blinks, and a look of complete and total confusion appears on her face for what is probably the first time in years. "How do you..." She hesitates, a crease forming between her eyebrows. "Can you read minds? I can't imagine how you know that." There is an edge of unease to her voice, and though her curiosity has also been piqued, the situation is stranger than it had been a moment ago. Being on a foreign ship with complete strangers is one thing, but encountering a stranger that seems to know not only you (which is an odd coincidence even in her own world) but enough about your world in general to claim a level of respect for one of your inspirations.

Her incredulity is only increased by the cup of tea that he hands her, and she stares at it for a moment before she becomes aware of the distinctly Gurdyroot-ness of the scent rising from it. "Well, that's not something you encounter everyday," she murmurs, referring not to the summoning of a formerly non-existent cup of hot tea, but the fact that he did so without the aid of a wand. "Where did you learn to do that?" she asks after sipping carefully at the tea, her expression lightening a bit, though it doesn't quite return to its previous tranquility. Really, Billy should give himself a gold star; he just upset the cool of Luna Lovegood.

"No, sadly reading minds is not in my power set. But I can fly without a broom, and do magic without a wand. Back home I'm called a witch, but I guess I'm more a sorcerer in your world." He gave her a small smile, completely pleased with himself for surprising her. He surprised Luna Lovegood. Not many people can claim that.

"I was born with my abilities, but it wasn't until I was thirteen that they appeared. I've been practicing with them ever sense, and I'm getting better and better."

Luna relaxes a bit more after a few mouthfuls of tea. "Well, I suppose that's good to hear. Flying without a broom sounds nice. I haven't ever flown, broom or not, but one of my good friends is a very good Seeker, so I have a feeling that not using a broom would be wonderful. They look uncomfortable." Her tone suggests that her shock has faded, and though she is still a bit rattled, she has subconsciously deemed it unnecessary to be particularly concerned with the issue.

"We share that. Witches and wizards in my world are born into their abilities, too."

"But you don't seem to have a gene that divides you from those without them. You just have it. For me, I have this thing in my blood. It gives me my powers. Or at least that's what I've been told. I don't get science all that well." He knew that he was babbling and that she probably wouldn't get most of it. But at least it was out there.

Indeed, Luna doesn't understand most of what he said, even though she knows most of the words. One term in particular has a question mark hovering over her head. "What's a gene? Like the trousers that proletariat Muggles wear?"

"It's kinda hard to explain. But no, it's not. It's something inside the body. A genetic code, or the likes." He shook his head, he was just going to confuse her more.

Luna 'hmm's softly, head tilting to the side. "It sounds complicated," she muses, wondering vaguely if it's a word for an organ or something of the like. A Healer might no, and she contemplates the likelihood of a Healer being somewhere onboard. Considering the number of people she can see, she figures that it's not entirely impossible, but somehow she doubts it. "I don't think we have anything like that in my world. If we do, I haven't heard of it."

[identity profile] madebymagic.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's not something most people even pay attention too. So don't worry about it." He gave her a bright cheery smile. At least she didn't look at him like he was a complete dork or something.

[identity profile] isee-snorkacks.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I see," she murmurs. "Well, in any case, it sounds interesting. You don't have any books on it with you, do you?" Ah, a true-born Ravenclaw; always with the books.

[identity profile] madebymagic.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Not on me no. But I'm sure I can whip some up for you at some point."

[identity profile] isee-snorkacks.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, well, that's alright." She blinks at him. "Do you think there's a library here? That would be wonderful..."

[identity profile] madebymagic.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I library here would probably be huge. We'll probably have to search for one."

[identity profile] isee-snorkacks.livejournal.com 2009-08-03 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm..." She falls silent, eyes fixed on the wall. When she looks back at him, she looks almost... sleepy, which could either be an abrupt decision to be bored until she finds a book or the fact that the situation was a bit more stressful than she was letting on. "Maybe I'll go look for one. A library would be very nice," she murmurs, turning her head the other way, eyes searching the various exits for a most probable direction to follow.

[identity profile] madebymagic.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well you could always ask one of the command staff if they know where the library is."

[identity profile] isee-snorkacks.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Luna looks around contemplatively, her eyes landing on someone who looks to know what they're doing. "I think I'll do that," she murmurs, staring at them for a long moment before smiling at Billy. "I think I'll do that," she repeats. "It was nice talking to you, Billy. I suppose I'll be seeing you." And, with nothing more for a farewell, she drifts off just as dreamily as she drifted in.
