Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Whoa, hey. There were new people. Lots of new people. Kira just sort of... stood there, scanning the crowd for any faces he knew - Athrun, Cagalli... Murrue, even. But he saw none.

Had it really been a month since he'd come here? It felt so short.

"Hi Kira!" Vega recognizes Kira in the crowd of people on the obs deck and decides to come say hello. And prove that he totally hasn't hurt himself yet and the adults don't need to worry about him, seriously.

"Ah... Vega, right?" Kira turned to the younger boy, nodding in welcome. "Do you see anyone you know?"

"No," says Vega, but he doesn't seem too put out by it. "That would be pretty cool but I don't think anybody else is here." Not that Vega has any friends to look for anyway.

"Do you know anybody here?" he asks in return.

Kira shook his head. "No, I don't. I guess there weren't any from my world this time around."

"Oh, I'm sorry," says Vega. "At least you have Lacus here and you know her, right? That makes it a little better."

Not that Vega would really know. The only person he's close to is Sarah, and he's kind of happy to be away from her bossing him for now.

Even though he kind of misses her...

After a moment, Kira nods, a small smile on his face. "Yes, that's true. I'm glad to have her here." After all, Lacus was special to him in a way Vega probably didn't know. Not that he could expect the younger boy to, of course.

There's another young man, about Kira's age, looking a little unsteady on his feet as he stands at the edge of the crowd.

Even from this distance, Kira would be able to see that the lenses of his eyes are completely clouded over with a vivid red color.

Still looking through the crowd, Kira's eyes find the other - and for a moment, he freezes. The other young man's eyes look almost identical to that of someone in SEED mode. Is he a Coordinator? Is he from Kira's world, even?

He finds his feet moving on their own to approach him.

(ooc: I find it funny that both SEED and Fafner had the characters designed by the same guy. Similar art style is similar.)

All Kazuki sees is a vague blur of motion moving towards him thanks to his condition, startling him a bit and causing him to trip, falling backwards onto the ground.

"Ow..." he mutters, rubbing his head as he leans back up.

Kira moves quickly, but not quickly enough - instead, he extends a hand to the other boy. "Are you all right?"

"I can't see anything..." Kazuki says as he takes the hand and pulls himself back up. "Other than that, I'm fine."

"You... can't see?" Huh. Then that probably wasn't a SEED after all. "Did something happen in the pod sleep?"

"No, this was from before. The assimilation phenomenon had gotten worse after my last battle."

"...Assimilation... phenomenon? I don't think I've ever heard of that." Kira frowned - the other was looking in his general direction, but not at him. That seemed to back up his story. "Will it get better?"

"For a little while, if I take the treatment, but it doesn't last long and there's a small chance it'll make things worse."

Ah, the joys of being a Fafner pilot.

"I'm Kazuki, by the way," he says, in a weak attempt to change the subject.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Kira says softly if genuinely.

"Kira Yamato. It's good to meet you."

Kazuki smiles a bit. "Have you been here long? I'm still trying to process everything that's going on."

"About a month." Kira shook his head. "It's hard, even if you've been here... it's so unlike what most people are used to."

"Well...normally I'd say it'll hopefully get better with time, but...I don't think I really wanna stay that long," he says with a sigh.

"So where'd they take you from? I'd just gotten home after a big battle, so I'm hoping things are still going good at home."

"I don't know how long we're going to be here," Kira admitted before focusing on the other part of what the young man had said. "I was at the orphanage I work at. There wasn't anything big going on that I can think of..."

A pause. "You were fighting?"

Kazuki nods.

"I'm a Fafner pilot," he says, before remembering no one else he talked to knew what that was. "It's a, uh...giant mecha."

All right, Kira hadn't expected that, and he looked visibly surprised. "A giant mecha? Like... a Mobile Suit, you mean?"

"...a what?"

He pauses a moment, then decides to actually describe it.

"It's about 90 to 100 feet tall--" he'd never bothered to actually look it up. "--sorta humanoid, with a flat, oblong head and rounded armor. Does that sound anything like what you're talking about?"

Kira just stared before nodding. "Mobile Suits aren't that big. The Freedom was about sixty feet tall, but it was a humanoid machine built for combat ... there's no way to tell for sure without seeing it, but it sounds similar."

Whoa. What were the odds of that?
