Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

He was used to eyes on him wherever he went, and it seemed clear by now that a few people who knew of his fame had been brought here too. So when he felt another pair of eyes watching him, Luke glanced around and found the young man who was staring at him and smiled, hopefully dispelling any nerves the other might have.

Billy wanted to run away and hide, but instead he gave a smile and waved slightly. His mind was busy chasing itself around in circles while his feet moved him closer to the man. He gulped slightly and tried to find his courage. It had to be hidden somewhere within himself, right?

A surge of sympathy rose in the man's chest as he watched this young man coming closer, looking as though he was either very happy or about to be sick and radiating the same in the Force. "Hello," he said amiably once the young man was close to him.

"Hello." Billy was surprised that his voice didn't shake, and was even more surprised to find that he himself wasn't shaking. "It's really you... I.." He shook himself for a minute and took a deep breath, smiling just slightly.

"Sorry. I shouldn't be acting like this." He shook his head once more and held out his hand. He really couldn't believe this was happening. "I'm Billy Kaplan, and it is an honor to meet you sir."

"Nice to meet you, Billy," Luke said, taking his hand and shaking it. "Luke Skywalker--but it seems you know that." He smiled kindly.

He nodded his head and swallowed the knot that was forming in his throat.

"I do. Wow.. This is just. You're one of my biggest heroes."

When people said that, it still honestly flattered him, though with all the darkness in his history he didn't know if he deserved it. It still brought a pleasant, happy feeling though. "Thank you," Luke said sincerely. "I hear that often, but it always makes me glad."

Billy felt like his heart was going to beat itself out of his chest. He was making Luke Skywalker happy! This had to be the best day of his life. And it wasn't even half way over!

Luke, meanwhile, had tilted his head a bit curiously at Billy. "Is everything all right?" he asked.

"Oh yes! I'm fine." He smiled slightly and looked around. "Just a bit overwhelmed I think."

"I think we all are." Luke chuckled. "Covered in goo, marched through a room full of vines that clean us and clothe us in these suits, given a weapon, and told we're to fight. It's an overwhelming thought, when we're far from those we love."

"I was okay with all that, well for the most part." He rubbed at the back of his neck and frowned. "I've been apart of a war, an invasion, and back home was fighting to remove a maniac from a powerful position before he destroyed the world." He shook his head and smiled just slightly.

"I've never been in space before though. And there are so many people here."

Another person who had never been in space! Luke wondered at that even still; space travel was such a normal thing for him that he couldn't imagine a life without it. "There are lots of people here, and I get the feeling that there are even more we haven't met," he said.

"I'd assume there are. This place has to be huge." He looked out towards the windows and smiled. "I just can't wait to explore."

"I'll have to get out and do some exploring myself. Maybe we can go together--there's safety in numbers, after all." He grinned.

He nodded a bit unsure what to say to that. He knew he could protect himself, but he wasn't going to turn Luke Skywalker down.

"I'd like that."

"Then it's settled." Luke smiled and held out his hand again. "It was very nice to meet you, Billy."

Billy took the hand and shook it gladly. "It was a true pleasure Master Skywalker."
