Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Katara was quiet a moment. Others? "Can you please tell me about them?"

Wednesday gives Katara a quick run-down of the AIs that are currently active (http://cityship.livejournal.com/1685.html), managing what he can to finesse things a little to be understood by what he guesses is a non-technological worldview.

It was becoming apparent that the more that Katara was told, the more she realized she was far, FAR from home. Getting her mind wrapped around Stacy was one thing, but other AIs who were a little tricky and ill-intentioned were another. She was starting to realize that just by being human on this ship, she was also a victim.

"Well, lucky that being a target is nothing new," she said, clearing her throat. "Huh. Let me keep this all mind. I think I'm going to have a lot to tell my brother again when I see him. I think he's going to like this information even less than I am, if he can get past the 'ship with feelings' thing."

Katara thought a moment. "So what is the rest of this spaceship like?"

"Most of it's like this..." He gestures around the Obs Deck. "But there is a city level—it's all sort of cut-and-dry but at least some of it's genuine—and there are the Sensoriums. They can make you think you're in almost any environment you can, well, think of."

"A city?!" Well that was news to Katara! Here she thought the ship would primarily consist of all of this with the pods, but they also had a city! And these...Sensoriums? That would be a good place to practice, now that she knew they existed. HOW they existed was a very good question, but Katara was not going to start asking questions about that, leave it to Sokka, the science guy.

"That's helpful. Thank you sir! I just have one other question, if you don't mind. Are there any others on this ship that claim they can bend like me?"

"Well, there's that Zuko fellow," Wednesday says, his broad eyebrows nudging up a little. "Always such a grump, though."

"Really?! Zuko is here? That's amazing!" Thank you!" Katara almost hugged the man, but thought better of it. There was something very off about him that she couldn't place, and besides, it was probably really rude to go off and hug someone from another world. For all she knew, they might think you were trying to fight them or something.

"How would I be able to talk to him?"

"You'll have to find him first... he spends a lot of time by himself, or trying to find different routes through the ship." Wednesday ponders. "You could ask that girl who's with him sometimes... black hair, very quiet—I think I saw her over that way." He gestures.

"Thank you! You've been helpful! I was just wondering, is there anyway we can talk to each other overlong distances? It's a little impossible in my world without messenger hawks, but in a strange new world like this, I guess the possibilities can be endless, right?"

"Well, there are the omnicomms and the comm rings..." He holds up a hand so that Katara can see the metal ring on one of his fingers. "They allow instantaneous communication through some scientific mumbo-jumbo or other. You'll want to check with the engineers, they cover handing those out." He points over to a different section of the Obs Deck. "Over that way, I think..."

Katara giggled at the mumbo jumbo comment, knowing that Sokka would definitely have taken offense since he considered anything spiritual or having to do with bending to be the mumbo jumbo. "Thank you so much! I'm going to go over there and get one now. If I can find a way to talk to all of the people I've met through that, it'll be so much easier!"

She straightened, and gave Mr. Wednesday a polite, formal bow. "It was my pleasure to meet your acquaintance. I hope that I see you again. Thank you for all your information. It was very helpful."

She was not as eloquent as Aang, but hopefully that would do the trick.

"You're welcome," Wednesday says pleasantly. He rather likes Katara, to judge by his expression.
