Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

"We know practically nothing about them, but—I saw the results personally, and even if they were misattributed it was... terrible."

His face... twists. It's pain, almost, but there's a slow-burning anger, too, the kind that burns low for a very long time and then flares up all at once in a horrible, glorious denouement.

"A ghost world. Everyone was dead and wiped away like they'd never been there."

The echoes of his feelings through the Force probably tell Luke everything he needs to know. As hardened as he is, it shook him so dearly...

Indeed, Luke picked up on the other's emotions and could understand. Much as he couldn't allow himself to feel pain, feel anger--the last time he had he'd tainted himself with the Dark Side--he understood well. The feeling of a desolate world would haunt him a long time.

"How?" he asked, voice soft. "How could an entire planet be wiped clean...?"

"A... bomb, no, that's not really the right word."

If Wednesday could touch the Force, well, first impressions would suggest a very much not good result... but there's an iron will buried under the facade of him, and a self-identity carved out of unyielding megalithic stone, and the trace of him is darkness and death and sacrifice but with the faint but long-glowing spark of rebirth all the stronger, like ashes tilled over into soil. He's a thing of conundrums, to put it lightly.

"A weapon of nanotechnology. It was carried on the wind and softly and silently ate away... everyone."

He thought of the viruses engineered by those on Caedus' side during the war, the viruses that had killed based on targeted DNA sequences and now kept Boba Fett from ever returning to Mandalore as he ought to be able to, and shuddered. Luke had hoped never to encounter anything like it again, but if one person could come up with it...

Then something else came to the fore of his thoughts, another phrase. Brow furrowed, he asked, "What do you mean by 'universe-hopping'?" He thought perhaps the man had misspoke and meant to say galaxy, because the Vong had certainly proved that they could travel intergalactically...

"Universe-hopping," Wednesday says with a little nod. "Exactly what it says on the tin."

"You don't mean galaxy?" he asked, then rocked back on his heels to think about this. Inter-universe travel was a myth, a clever plot device used in holodramas, but this man was saying it was a reality. Luke didn't sense a lie.

"Universe-hopping," he murmured to himself. "Many universes." The idea was one he couldn't wrap his head around at the moment, though he had to admit its veracity in the situation of this strange threat. The implications weren't ones he liked. "Is there a way to at least slow the progress of these beings that devastate worlds before they can get to another?" he asked.

"No idea," Wednesday says with a little sigh.

Luke nodded; the man had said as much, that they didn't know a lot about these beings. "I'm sure there's a way," he said at last. "I didn't get your name, Mister...?"

"Wednesday," the old man says, nodding a little. "Just an old wanderer am I." He smiles in a kindly, harmless way that far betrays the presence Luke has already felt of him.

"Mr. Wednesday," Luke repeated, cementing the name and face in his memory. This man reminded him strongly of Obi-Wan. "I'm sure I'll see you around, then?"

"Oh, probably, I'm sure. Old men like me always end up getting tangled up in things, don't we?" he asks with a smile.

Luke just grinned and bowed in a polite farewell before he wove off through the crowd. Perhaps later he and Mr. Wednesday could talk more, but for now, the man (if he was entirely a man) looked to have his hands quite full, and Luke didn't want to bother him anymore.
