Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Yuri in her perpetual quest to be helpful to someone, anyone, spots a boy around her age, American or European by the looks of him. He wears a petulant expression, lips downturned in a frown, and seemingly trying to hide it all under an antique looking hat. She stops a bit away from him and waves.

"Hi...are you lost?"

Had he been born in raised a few centuries later, he would have rolled his eyes and mumbled duh. However, that lovely token of a word hasn't been mumbled yet, so he stares at the waving, and checks his pocket again, before replying, "oui, though, ins't everyone? This isn't Patria and I am needed by the M'sieurs for the Barricades, we are to fight!"

"Patria?" Yuri giggles behind her hand. "No, this is Stacy. That sounds really exciting though! I'm afraid that for the moment you probably won't be able to find them though..."

Don't giggle! Patria is very important! "I don't need Stacy!" he looks around, assuring himself that one of the student-soldiers would be around, "Why not?"

"We've been...kidnapped. Recruited. The artificial intelligence of this ship it..." Come to think of it, this sounds ridiculous. "Sends us on missions to stop these evil nanites called the Ohm..."

"They're uh...nanotech swarms. They devour everything they come across." Someone doesn't quite get that she's talking to someone from the eighteenth century.

Oh boy. "You know. Tiny robots. You know what a robot is, right?"

Gavroche just stares at her.

She must be delusional... okay. fine.
She can have a roll- if she's so hungry she's seeing things, she needs it more than him.

"Hungry?"

A change of subject? "Well a little, yeah. The food here's not very good..."

He holds out the dry and molding piece of bread with as much pride as he can hold in it, "What kind of food?"

Yuri looks at the tiny, gross little husk, trying to keep pity out of her voice as she waves it away. "It's this kind of gray gruel stuff but...There's a trick to making it taste good. I can show you after the briefing! I'm Yuri Otani by the way."

"Oui?" He stuffs it back in his pocket, looking around, "I'm Gavroche! What is briefing?"

Ga-bu-ro-shu... The foreign syllables refuse to even sound right in her head. Mentally she gives him the name 'Gav-chan'. "It's where everything gets explained in detail...Or at least as much detail as anyone knows, anyway..." Which isn't very much.

"What is... everything?" Besides, you know, the fact that he is wearing a plant and what not.

That would be nice to have explained.

"Well uh...everything. Really. I can't really summarize it." Her hands wave to encompass the sheer vastyness of it all. "But they'll tell us in a minute."
