Meet and Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicomms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicomm. New crewmates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that), a large afro attached to a smaller girl, and talking ponies among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in. But thankfully this time, there's a system that was set up to aid the new crew members with a few more experienced ones.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies. Big brother/sister, there will be a thread for you as well!]

Well, that would explain the Pip-Boy. On one level, Spinelli can't say as he's completely surprised to hear that, given everything Elle has with her. And on another level, he is, because never in his wildest dreams did he think he would wake up naked and covered in goop and surrounded by aliens and characters from video games.

Fortunately, the arched eyebrows and faint look of surprise could be easily interpreted as a reaction to her being from a wasteland full of monsters. "I cannot say as there are many monsters where I'm from, although some of the fair citizens of our fine town would perhaps argue the point. At least, when it applies to those who have taken up a life in a...ah...decidedly less than legal line of work. And Port Charles has been known to house a few folks of a more villainous persuasion in the past. So, perhaps not monsters, but I have had my own share of encounters with dangerous people, certainly."

... lmao Spinelli. (btw, canon puncturing is fine with me!)

Port Charles. Just by habit, she automatically stows the name away in her mind, even though it won't do her much good here. ... she thinks. (Ah, the mind of a scavenger. "It might come in useful! ... some day!")

"Not as often, if you were surprised enough by my gear you felt like you had to comment on it." Not that she minds, really. "I have to admit, I'm kind of jealous. I'd love to be from a place where Deathclaws don't exist."

(promptly does so, muhahah. Okay, maybe not so promptly.)

"Deathclaws are truly vicious mutants, so it's certainly understandable," replied Spinelli without thinking. He's played enough Fallout to know they were bad news, as anything with thick and resilient hide, powerful muscles, and twelve-inch-long, razor-sharp claws would be.

"But you are correct. There are very few people who wear even a simple kevlar vest, let alone a full suit of body armor, in my adoptive home town. One would think given how often the various mob factions tend to escalate things, at least the PCPD would, but it is not truly the Jackal's place to say."

He broke off, pressing his lips together for a moment. "Although, perhaps if I had thought to don some similar protection prior to my trip through the air ducts to rescue fair Maximista, perhaps the demented Dr. Niles would have lowered her weapon rather than choose to attempt to use it in close proximity to the hostages."

"Yea -- Wait."

Elle's thoughts stop for a moment so abruptly it's almost audible. She performs a double-take and stares at the Jackal as he continues talking. There's a part of her that wants to comfort him, assure him that surely it wasn't his fault, but the rest of her is too preoccupied with what he first said.

"You know what deathclaws are?" she asks, almost cautiously.

Spinelli blinks, looking at Elle in a rather puzzled sort of way, forgetting for a few seconds that the reason for his knowledge isn't something easily explained to someone who comes from a place where they actually exist. "Well, but of course. Doesn't everyone?"

He seems to realize it a few seconds later, however, his mouth opening to continue, then closing again as he figures out what he's done. "Oh. Ah...well, that is to say that perhaps the Jackal is privy to knowledge of certain things that resemble deathclaws, although he has had the good luck never to encounter one in person. The Internet holds information on a vast array of topics, you see."

In theory, the explanation might work. He hopes the explanation might work. However, the fact that he's a terrible liar might, just possibly, cause some problems here.

"But you... named them. And... what... is the Internet?"

Nope. Sorry, Spinelli, it's a no go.
jackalpi: (explaining)

I am so sorry, I didn't realize I had a notif for this.

That was dumb of him, and he realizes it. He grimaces, mentally kicking himself for that slip-up.

"Of course you wouldn't know what the Internet is," he mutters - although by his tone he's not at all cross with her. Moreso himself for forgetting for a moment that her world isn't exactly in a state where that technology still exists.

"Deepest apologies, but the idea might prove a bit difficult to explain. Where I come from, people are able to communicate through a vast network of computers that stretch across the globe. Anyone who wishes is able to access said network and instantaneously gather any information they require. And...yes, there are tales of Deathclaws to be found in there, but they do not truly exist save for in fiction, as it were. Stories that others have created from the recesses of their imagination."

Luckily for Spinelli, Elle has read the survival guide and gone over the first conversation with the Daligig. She's already familiar with the concept that her reality may be fiction to others, but to meet someone in person who knows of the "story"... It's... strange. And more than a little unnerving.

"I... see." At the very least, she manages to smile. "Having technology like that would be a blessing in the Mojave -- but, then, I suppose you already know that, huh?" There's a moment as she struggles with an idea. "You... How much about my... How much do you know about where I come from?"
