Meet and Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicomms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicomm. New crewmates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that), a large afro attached to a smaller girl, and talking ponies among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in. But thankfully this time, there's a system that was set up to aid the new crew members with a few more experienced ones.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies. Big brother/sister, there will be a thread for you as well!]

The corner of Ezri's mouth quirked up at the question. "Probably," she said. "I'm used to serving on a starship, but I've never been drafted into it--and definitely not one like this." She glanced over at one of the rather organic-looking pieces of furniture. Jadzia would have loved to run a tricorder over this place.

"But for now, I'll settle for knowing who my new crewmates are. I'm Ezri."

A starship? That sounded familiar, VERY familiar, but right now Kaya was drawing a blank. Maybe it would come to her later? At any rate, this woman Ezri seemed friendly enough, although she was definitely curious about the spots.

"Yes, this ship is different from a starship: its alive, for one thing. The more you explore, the more that becomes clear, and it can be pretty unsettling. And believe me, you WILL want to explore this place."

She gave a short bow. "I'm Kaya, waterbender from the North Pole in my world. Pleased to meet you!"

"Sounds like it'll be interesting, anyway," Ezri said with a forced upbeatness. "I've heard of a living ship, but I'm not sure it was anything like this one." What had it been called? Tin Man, or something like that. There hadn't been a lot of detail about it in the Starfleet database.

She smiled and gave Kaya a quick, friendly nod. "I'm Ezri, Ezri Dax. I'm a Starfleet counselor in my world. I've never heard of a waterbender, but you've probably never heard of Starfleet so we're even."

Starfleet...Starfleet! That was where she'd heard that term before, she was from the same world as the former captain from a long time ago!

"I haven't heard of Starfleet in MY world, but I definitely heard of it here! Our former Captain was Jean Luc Picard, and one of the people on his ship, Worf, were here once! They were podded though, which was a shame: Picard showed me so much when I was first learning about how big space was!"

Ezri's eyebrows shot up. Jean-Luc Picard? The Jean-Luc Picard?! And on a more personal level... Worf? He had been here? Ezri felt a sudden twist inside. If she could pick any of her friends to be at her side right now, he would be right up there with Ben.

And the way Kaya talked about how they'd been here and gone like it was something routine made it twist more, in a bad way. "Worf. Tall, Klingon, drank prune juice?" she said, half-disbelieving. "What do you mean he was 'repodded?' What happened--were they hurt?"

From her reaction, she could definitely see that Jean Luc was an important person in her world. Good. She had cared a lot about him, and hoped that he was someone important in their world. It would have been crazy if he wasn't.

"Yes, that's him, but I didn't get to talk to him much. He was a very...somber guy, to himself, pretty quiet. But repodded means Stacy brought him back to the pods to keep his soul intact. Nothing's happened to him, he's just in stasis, in a way."

"Yeah, that sounds like Worf," said Ezri. But that was about the only thing familiar about the things Kaya was saying. "When you say his soul. Do you mean literally? Because I don't think his soul is in any danger of going anywhere but Sto-vo-kor."

"I was never able to speak with Worf much, I tended to stick more to Jean Luc, Kaya admitted. "But when I mean his soul, I mean him and his body are still intact, just in the pods, like all people who have been podded. To be perfectly honest, half the time what happens to us is really up to Stacy's discretion."

Ezri had to smile. "You know, there are a lot of people in the Federation who would be very envious if they were talking to you right now," she said. "It's not every day that you meet someone who's on a first-name basis with Captain Picard."

Up to Stacy's discretion. Well, that was great. About as great as being stuck on a Breen ship flying into the Dominion, only without the stun-sticks and mental probing... she hoped. "And what kind of places does Stacy bring us to, at her discretion?"

"I could tell he was someone important!" Kaya said, obviously excited. "I mean, yes, he was the captain and all, but he had this way about him. It was as if he wanted to go on until the end of the world, and you wanted to follow him, just to see where it went!"

That was what she thought anyway.

"Many different places, different climates, sometimes for missions even. But there is a lot more even than what I'm telling you. It's complicated."
