Meet and Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicomms and comm rings. They are also told they must read information about their current situation and a survival guide with their new omnicomm. New crewmates might see a tall dragonish guy with wings (but don't call him that), a large afro attached to a smaller girl, and talking ponies among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in. But thankfully this time, there's a system that was set up to aid the new crew members with a few more experienced ones.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies. Big brother/sister, there will be a thread for you as well!]

"Oh, there's a library?" Presea's eyes lit up with interest. The walls of her study at home were lined with books, a real testament to her fondness for reading, considering the nonexistence of the printing press at the time. She couldn't even begin to imagine how amazing the library would be in a place like this, where so many worlds and cultures intersected. She itched to find out.

"I think I'll need directions there later," she declared firmly, and smiled. "I might have to spend a few weeks in there catching up."

Ronnae laughed lightly as she covered her mouth, giving a slight nod.

"It's a really amazing place. I spent the better part of my arrival here getting to know everything I could through there. I still visit it often to do research or simply to relax. I can mark it on your omnicomm if you'd like," she added with a cheerful yet timid smile as she pulled out her own.

"Maybe we could meet up there once you get settled in."

Presea pulled her own device from her pocket, looking down at it with a slight trepidation. She'd never seen magic devices like these communicators before, and she wasn't sure how to work it. Books were simpler. They didn't care how you turned the pages. Still, she supposed she'd sort it out eventually. Assuming she didn't take it apart to see how it worked, that is.

"I'd appreciate that," she said warmly, offering her omnicomm to Ronnae for the promised marking. "Tell me," she went on after a moment, "is your world anything like this? With small communication devices and gigantic spaceships?"

She knew she wasn't the only person here from a low-tech world, but the reassurance would be nice.

Ronnae smiled and took the omnicomm while staying close to Presea so she could see how to reach the info in case she wasn't used to them just yet.

At the inquiry, Ronnae shook her head lightly. "Not at all. I mean, we have magic and technology and magitech... but this is just really out there. It took a lot of research for me to adjust my engineering knowledge to be able to work for the Engineering department here on board."

Presea watched with interest, wondering at the way the device obeyed Ronnae's commands. What magic! Or perhaps they were alive, like the ship. Or crafted. So many possibilities.

Anyway, Ronnae's statement about Engineering made her feel a bit better for her lack of knowledge. "As long as fire still burns properly, I should be okay in my department," she said, a bit amused by the idea. (If fire didn't work, she'd have to reevaluate the laws of science.)

Ronnae giggled lightly, "Yes, believe me, fire still burns just as well as always, sometimes even better! Most elements usually function normally here and you can even enhance or mitigate them in various ways. We have a Magic department as well if you know how to use the arts."

"Oh, a little. I'm a weaponmaker by trade, so the fields overlap a little. I'm not much of an expert, though, on magic," Presea said. Still, it might be helpful to those in that department. Perhaps she should speak to them too.

"Really?! My mama's a weaponsmith! She's really good at it and it's always impressive what she can do with materials. I always admired crafters like that. It's so different than Engineering to be quite honest! I don't think I could work like that."

Ronnae mused with a cheery smile, getting more comfortable being around Presea.

Oh, this was neat! Presea beamed. She always enjoyed meeting other smiths, or at least talking about them. And Ronnae had paid her a compliment, too.

"Well, I was trained to it from a child. I've never known anything else... but I've never wanted to. Your mama is probably the same way. Thank you," she added. "I have a friend with interest in Engineering, and I've always thought he picked the difficult path!"

Ronnae gave a short bow and smiled, she meant it, she had always admired that trade since it seemed to be full of dedication and how the smiths were so proud of their craft and with just reasons. They were works of art in themselves.

"It can be yes! There's so much to do sometimes and sometimes we make it harder on ourselves by overthinking things when the answer is much simpler." Ronnae laughed a little.

"I swear, sometimes crafters are our own worse critics. We can be so hard on ourselves."
