Being sent off into the unknown was part of the risks that being on the ship had brought them. Thankfully they were getting a chance to stock up before heading out.

But just what was waiting out there?

[[Just so you all know, this is bendy time for around the 12th on the meatship, so those who were hurt during the battle should be much, much better. This is also the only post that will be open to both groups before they split off, and anyone who wishes to see them off can do so. In fact, it's encouraged!]]

"I hope we're not being too loud for you," Zouichi said, recalling their earlier conversation. "Have you been on many missions before?"

A lopsided smile tugged on her lips at the sight of the familiar face. "Not any more so than usual, though I appreciate the concern."

She gently shook her head at his question and nodded towards the screen. "No, but I feel it's oddly appropriate that my first mission (presumably) involves a group of people with little idea of what they're supposed to be doing, in a (likely) dangerous place that no one knows about. It's almost like I'm back in the cape business!"

Zouichi nodded. "I wish I could say the same. I'm used to knowing what my missions entail, and what risks I can expect... more or less. I'm glad you're not feeling too under the weather, though. I have a feeling we might be running into some trouble."

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Given the last few weeks (months? years?), I expect nothing but trouble and a slew of unfortunate situations. I might just be acting a tad unnecessarily pessimistic, though. It could be simple and easy (ha!)."

He sighed. "Well, we can only hope. Every time it sounds like the mission's going to be a piece of cake, it turns out not to be, so maybe since we were warned in advance this time, it'll turn out all we have to do is babysit someone's dog."

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"With so many people involved? If it were, I bet it would be a cerberus, which would be fairly interesting (I'm just thinking). But you're right; no point sweating the small (or brobdingnagian) stuff! I haven't been able to stretch my legs in awhile, so it might be fun."

"You know what? A three-headed demon dog would be an improvement over that whole clone planet thing. I'll be hoping for that one." Zouichi blinked. "I guess it has been quite a while since we were able to roam around freely on-planet. Probably not since that last shore leave..."

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't know; shore leaves are generally a bother to me, too (unfortunately) as even though there's a barrier, alien minds are still...well, minds. In which case I can only hope that there will be a way to spare me a terrible headache, later."

"Hmm. Don't suppose you could read the ship's mind, see what it's planning for us?"

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-09-08 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Both of her eyebrows shot up in surprise at his question and she was quick to shake her head. "Actually, I haven't tried (just yet) but considering that she has use of telepathy as well, I would assume she has some sort of psi-shield as a means of safeguarding herself (at least it would be sensible to do so)"

[identity profile] zouichi.livejournal.com 2011-09-08 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Was it really that surprising? He figured someone would have asked her before.

"I didn't think so. It'd be too easy." Actually, it had mostly been a joke; if it were possible to psychically invade the ship's thoughts, he assumed Ildraniath or another psychic would have succeeded already.

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly. I won't pretend to have any love for Stacy beyond being my 'savoir' (of sorts), but I've been rather cautionary when employing the use of my telepathic abilities." She wasn't really sure she wanted to see what happened when one crossed certain boundaries.

"More of those Violations, perhaps." Although they had revised those recently. Still, who could tell whether the ship would honor the revisions they'd supposedly made to her programming? That it wasn't capable of rewriting them when needed?

He frowned. "Well, in any case, I suppose we'll find out soon enough what it is we're up against. Let's hope the news is good rather than ill."

[identity profile] piggyback-ride.livejournal.com 2011-09-10 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have just a teensy foreboding feeling about this all, though I'm it's just nerves (which I'll make sure to fix before we actually attempt whatever this mission is). I'll just say good luck to you, Zouichi (though I doubt you'll need it)!"
