Lirath - Space Battle
Run by: Tetra
NPCS: Everyone
The battlefield in the space above Lirath was a tumultuous mess. being both inviting targets for barrage in and of themselves, and also forcing the GIA ships to stay in close to protect them instead of allowing for more maneuvering room. The ice ring around Lirath had been blasted apart, resulting in giant chunks of ice drifting through fire- and sight-lines, providing opportunities for both cover and ambush as well as destruction for the dog-fighting ships weaving in and out of their treacherous paths. The wreckage of GIA and Ohm ships made movement through the battlefield downright hazardous -- who knew if there were still live weapons aboard any of them, just waiting to be tripped by an unwary pilot? The gravitational forces of the nearby planet Kehoe were an unwelcome addition to an already chaotic battlefield, making navigation difficult.
Ohm shrikes strafed the bare handful of GIA capital ships present, causing soundless explosions in the vacuum of space and killing who-knew-how-many allies of Transmigration 9's crew in the process. The GIA fighters seemed barely able to dent the massive Ohm Leviathans that brooded over the planet like bloated, predatory spiders, and those that were still flying were massively damaged, hulls scorched by plasma fire, some barely held together with parts of them vented into space. In some places there were things that looked like clouds of specks-- groups of dead GIA crewman, lost to the void.
Before long, new Ohm bioforms would enter the fray, ones created to compensate for the ship's mecha.
In this scattered and scorched battleground, Starfighter Command would have to fight Ohm ships side by side with the exhausted forces of the GIA, braving massive chunks of ice, wreckage, and of course, the seemingly never-ending forces of the Ohm.
And the tide of battle was already turned against them.

FIRST WAVE
Frigate-class Leviathans made up the forefront of the new wave, firing psychic energy blasts aimed at puncturing the hulls of the GIA forces and crushing any small ships unlucky enough to find itself in range of their powerful jaws.
Between them, smaller Shrikes deployed from the Leviathans cut through space towards the allied forces in swift, rapidly maneuverable swarms, bent on overwhelming their targets with concentrated psychic energy lances or beams that could slice through ships at close range.
The Escort Leviathans came after the rest, backing up their smaller cousins with beam fire comparable to even to the Macross Quarter's cannon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN-91q-4S0k).
Plenty of places for allies and enemies both to hide amongst the ice chunks and wreckage. Time to show the Ohm what you're made of, starfighters.
[Remember to NPC the Ohm your character is
explodingfighting! A description of each type of Ohm can be found here (http://t9.attention-universe.com/tiki-index.php?page=NPC+Guide).]Re: FIRST WAVE
Shrike, meet Variable Fighter foot! One of the first to enter the battle, Sonic made his presence known by drop kicking a Shrike, using the confusion to attack it and some of his comrades with machine gun fire before pulling away and focusing elsewhere.
"Ha! Too easy! C'mon, show me what you guys can do!"
Yeah, he was a bit too cocky here.
Re: FIRST WAVE
<Please save all "look, up in the sky" comments until after the battle.> Clark said through the comm-ring. He didn't really need to breathe, and he could fly in a vacuum. Hitching a ride on the Quarter to the space battle had seemed like a fairly obvious idea.
Re: FIRST WAVE
"Let's go, Bellcross," Age said to himself, kicking off from Stacy's surface as the first wave of Ohm approached.
In a flash of bright blue light, Age's body disappeared as biological matter--flesh and bones and chitin--began to appear from the center of the light, eventually forming together in the form of a massive, blue-armored creature, standing over 60-feet tall.
Mere moments later, the being known as Bellcross took off, flying at high speed towards the fray. In a blur of motion, Bellcross slammed through the oncoming swarm of Shrikes, knocking dozens out of the way. More began swarming around him, even as he lashed out, each time crushing another Shrike to a pulp.
It certainly seemed like a reckless way of fighting, but no one ever said Age was exactly a tactical genius.
Re: FIRST WAVE
"Don't let them swarm up on you like that!" Sonic shouted, turning his Variable Fighter's cannon on the Ohm surrounding Bellcross and firing.

And a battle it would be indeed, closing the channel to friendly forces the Sangheili Shipmaster's gaze took in the battle taking place in silence ahead of them from his command chair to the side of the bridge. Switching to Starfighter command frequency 'Vadum activated the comms once more.
"Macross Quarter to all Squadrons, let us take the fight to the enemy, good hunting,Quarter out,"
With a sharp gaze 'Vadum took note of the initial contacts turning to head their way, analyzing the battlefield ahead before turning his gaze to his pilot, "Helmsman, take us in. Prepare the main cannon and target the lead Escort class Leviathan, fire on my mark," Best to take out the larger targets before they proved a further threat to both GIA forces and the squadrons of Starfighter command, "Point defenses to cover all possible approaches, watch for hidden targets. Focus beam cannon fire on the frigates,"

So he ignored the various cautionary lights that lit up his dash as he pushed the ship forward into battle. "Raising shields, maneuvering to engage," Wash said. "Bringing main canon to bear."
That canon was a thing of beauty when it fired. Wash grinned. "Punch it, Eva."

As the GIA ship movements appeared on the Quarter's map, they could see the massive capital ship along with several escort vessels move alongside the Quarter.
This time, they had backup.
no subject
With that he gave a nod to his Helmsman as the main cannon was brought to bear, "Let us give the Ohm a proper greeting. Fire the main cannon!"
To have a fleet at their back, even what the GIA had was something he would, "Coordinate fire with the Reliant and her escorts, let us make short work of the remaining Escorts and Frigates,"
Re: FIRST WAVE
"Confirmed, you have launch," replied Rein across the comms.
"Launching!"
And the Calnus streaked into the stars.
Re: FIRST WAVE
Sakura resolved that she would never get used to this, clinging to the chair she sat on as the Calnus raced on.

The white mobile suit shot through space like a shooting star, with no room to do much but instantaneously attack as the GOUF ran straight into a group of approaching Shrikes. The mech's beam sword was out, raised high to slash forward through them, hitting and knocking one to the side from the velocity that it approached them at. Yzak spun his unit around, wasting no time to face them again because even a moment's hesitation could easily result in getting overwhelmed.

Re: [ OOC ]
The Tauren rocketed his suit out of the Quarter, giant beam-axe in midswing, and bisected the shrike in his path.

Re: FIRST WAVE
She hung back near the Quarter, surveying the battlefield. What a sloppy mess. As if the floating wreckage and associated flotsam weren't enough, the ice created a completely unnecessary hazard.
"Rogue Squadron, stick together in pairs. I don't want to see any of you heading off alone. Sweep the remains of the rings for firebugs or other ambushes and destroy them. Blade Squadron, keep those frigates busy while the Quarter deals with the Leviathans - you have the firepower for it. Skull Squadron, engage the shrikes attacking the GIA ships. Try to give those people some breathing room. Soryu, you're with me. Try not to get yourselves killed."
Orders dispensed, Trudy opened her craft's S-foils into attack position and began sweeping the icy debris, blowing it apart when she could. They didn't need rocks as well as incoming fire threatening the Quarter.

"You heard the lady," he said over the communicator. "Skull Squad, let's go to work. I'll watch your backs, gentlemen."
The sniper sight came up - and immediately flitted onto a pursuing Ohm. He squeezed the trigger, and the hypersonic round flashed through space at multiple kilometers-per-second, hitting the target and shredding it instantly.
SECOND WAVE
There were only about nine of them, deployed in groups of three each, but that was enough. Take heavy offensive and defensive capabilities, the capability to fire massive beam attacks capable of wiping out small fighters by the hundreds, and the nasty habit of ganging up on lone mechs to annihilate them, and this was not going to be easy.

"Aw, man...! Not good!" Sonic said, going from Fighter to GERWALK mode. He went for the commring on his finger. He had to tell the others. Guys, this is Skull-4 - Sonic the Hedgehog! There are new Ohm out here! I repeat, there are new Ohm! These suckers gotta be as big as those Mobile Suits and just as powerful!
Taking up his fighter's cannon, he prepared to dive in. "Not letting you freaks get the better of me, though!"
no subject
The attack came swiftly. The first Titan was on his fighter in an instant, lashing out with its massive right claw to try and shear one of his wings off, with the other two close behind, aiming themselves directly at him to body-slam the GERWALK.
This group looked like it was testing the fighter and Sonic's reaction time before they tried cutting their teeth on the larger ships.
no subject
"Eyaaah~!" Sonic yelped, trying to right his fighter. "They... they're fast." A cocky grin formed on his face. "Alright, you wanna race? Let's race!" Righting himself, he let the legs of the GERWALK mode flare to life, shooting him backwards. "Let's see what you can do when you're chasing the world's fastest hedgehog!"

Re: SECOND WAVE
"New contacts identified, the Ohm have something new in store for us. Recommend focusing fire on these new targets, take them out before they isolate any of our own, the Quarter and Reliant will deal with the Leviathans," With that he cut the comm channel and relayed targeting information on the new Ohm through to Trudy so that she and her squadrons would be able to pick out the far more dangerous targets from the rest.
"Helmsman, coordinate fire with the Reliant and her escorts, let us take out the Leviathan's before they can aid these 'new' units, you are clear to fire as soon as the main cannon is back at full charge,"
Re: SECOND WAVE
That would keep the smaller targets from interfering with Michael's line of sight, and would give the Ohm mechs a whole mess of new targets to deal with. Trudy shot forward toward one of the Titans, strafing it with fire as she zipped past. She banked the fighter around and came past again, but this time swung wide over the Titan's head and targeted a Shrike escorting it. The smaller Ohm exploded.
Re: SECOND WAVE
Sam turned his X-Wing, moving into position to back the Skulls up. At least the Shrikes went down easily enough, though it took concentration to keep up with them. Kept him from worrying about Dean.
