Lirath - Ground Battle
After dropping off some of the crew at Balisair, it was time for the crew to set course for Lirath. The situation greeting them wasn't the most promising.
The cracked surface of the moon called Lirath was one of its most unmistakeable features. One of the three moons of the planet Kehoe, it had been terraformed and served as a settlement for a hundreds of different species, some humanoid, some not. Despite occasional class struggles, environmental issues, and speciesism blocking their way, the darker parts of Lirath's past were largely left behind, and an era of peace and tolerance had reigned for quite some time. The only problems they'd had recently were with a terrorist group whose cause for their actions had been a mystery, but they weren't tied to any particular species or social group and had been likened to a cult and had largely gone quiet in recent years.
Now the peace on the moon of Lirath had been shattered by the invasion of the Ohm.
The capital city had been destroyed. Now, all that was left of the peoples of Lirath was evacuating from one of its smaller cities, one known as Smyteval. A desert city, existing in a valley in between a rocky range of canyons and mountains, even though it was in the low ground, the natural channels of rock served as bottlenecks for any Ohm attacking from the ground.
GIA squadrons patrolled in space, locked in explosive warfare, protecting the Bleed-gate that had been activated to see the evacuated ships to the refugee world, and a shield created by massively-powerful shield generators extended around the city and up into the atmosphere, creating a shielded tunnel so ships could escape.
Word had come that there was a vital weapon to be deployed on Lirath, one that needed to be destroyed, hence why the Transmigration 9 had been called in. Given the diverse crew, and the ships that were in its hangar, there was at least someone or something on board that could blow the weapon up if it did show.
There was no sign of it yet. Right now, there was just chaos, streams of evacuees boarding ships, armies of Ohm engaged with GIA soldiers outside the shields, and forcefields that everyone hoped would hold out just a little bit longer.
The crew would be following Leon's orders but finding themselves fighting side-by-side with GIA platoons, full of various species that were currently all getting their asses kicked severely.

STAGE 1 SETUP
On the battlefield itself, explosions were going off left and right, vaporizing and blowing apart anything or anyone in their way. Giant GIA tanks rolled over the rocky desert surface, their massive tracks grinding down any obstacles--or Ohm--in their way, firing back in retaliation for firebugs. GIA fighters and Ohm shrikes were engaged in dogfights overhead, as well as providing air support for their respective troops.
The crew would have to be mindful of possible friendly fire as much as the dire attacks of the Ohm.
Vehicles that could only be described as hover-trucks brought ammunition and refill power cartridges to supply the troops, and other trucks transported injured soldiers back.
And there were a lot of casualties. The injured were the lucky ones, the ones that were less lucky lay dead in on the rocky desert scree.
It was only going to get worse before it got better.

GROUND FIGHTERS A (OHM)
NPCS: Everyone
The group of ground fighters was going to find their hands more than full as they took on the Ohm forces. Fortunately the terrain allowed for the Ohm to be bottle-necked in certain places, as well as providing cover in the form of rocky outcroppings. In other areas, fighters would find an urban battle on their hands in the run-down ruins of the city.
GIA soldiers would both be helping and getting in the way of the crew, depending on what the crew did.
The battle had already begun. Now it was time for the crew to try to turn it around.
[ooc: Subthreaded fighting. See the NPCing Guide on how Ohm and GIA can be used.]
Re: GROUND FIGHTERS A (OHM)
He saw the bodies that laid dead. No more. The Ohm would take no more lives this day.
One by one, the dull colors that symbolized Clark were torn away as the colorful red and blues became apparent.
"This looks like a job... for Superman."
The first set of Grunts in his way would easily see that as they were quickly scattered.

The paladin yanked off his shield and threw it in one swift motion. It slammed into a Grunt just now clambering over a pile of debris in the middle of a narrow cannon, then bounced backwards to slam into the two Grunts close on its tail.
Mar snatched the shield out of the air as it came back to him, then slid it on. "Come get a face full of white-hot holy energy and aggro!"

Re: GROUND FIGHTERS A (OHM)
Sure, there was a little worry at the back of his mind that his friends needed to be safe but he reassured himself with the thrilling feeling of actually charging into a major battle.
Nothing could beat the rush he got as he barreled his way into the brawl, pulling out his weapon and blindsiding an enemy with the hilt.
Finally being able to attack those that put him in this situation exhilarated him.
Forcing himself to calm, he reached out to find any willing fighting spirits of warriors past that had been attracted by the battle on their planet. Upon locating one, Hana let out a bark of a laugh, cocky smile fixed on his face as he poured his power and the spirit into the sword, forming an large Oversoul in the shape of a Scimitar.
That was a new one. But it would work. And what a wonderful time to test it out.

There was really ... no way to take cover around the corner of a ruined building for a breather, there seemed to be fighting just about everywhere. Jr. did his best to try and ignore the bodies scattered around the areas. He was used to bodies, though depending on the situation, sometimes it bothered him more than others. He didn't want to think about anybody he knew being among them. He already had to deal with that ... he still remembered familiar faces, acquaintances and close friends...
His guns were out and ready to fire, mind already preparing to aid with some havoc to the lands and surrounding area with some Ether attacks. First, of course, he took the moment to cast a quick little something onto his weapons for an extra hand. And then like a whip, he jumped into the fray.

Zouichi dropped his Nightmare in a sharp dive, switching to GERWALK mode and halting midair amidst a blast of violet thruster fire. A barrage of gatling fire pierced several of the swiftly approaching Shrikes, the rest of which banked sharply away from the sudden onslaught, trying to regroup long enough to attempt an attack at close range.
It was time to get this party started.

She took a deep breath and yanked one of the rifles out of the sandy ground, fired at an oncoming Shrike, and discarded it. She repeated this with another rifle, and another, until it looked like she was going through the steps of some strange dance.
Her accuracy was near-perfect, but these Ohm were tougher than the witch minions that usually flocked to her when she did this. She couldn't keep this up forever, fighting alone...

Re: GROUND FIGHTERS A (OHM)
But for whatever reason, this did not deter the girl who now stood atop one of the rocky formations looking down at the scene. Fully armored up in her dark red and black regalia in addition to enhancing areas with the Thorn Armor, Ronnae took a moment to honor those who have already fallen, and those who will undoubtedly will.
After a minute, she unsheathed the humming weapons from her back, one eager to spill blood and wreck chaos, the other yearning to bring peace and justice and end the war. No matter which she listened to, they each wanted the same thing in the end. Combat. And Ronnae wasn't going to impede that desire, in fact, she wad the burning want to rip into the enemy lines herself, the bloodlust slowly taking over her as a smile spread on her lips. The reddish aura of rage building rapidly till it was all too apparent that she'd enjoy this a bit took much.
With a mighty leap, she bounded towards a mass grouping of Ohm grunts that had been tearing a GIA squad to shreds, hoping to save the ones that were left. Her body easily twisted into graceful spins, flips and acrobatic maneuvers even tho she was wielding two large two-handed weapons and magical heavy plate armor. Her blades digging into the Ohm and tearing chunks as she dived and dodged the majority of the swarm's attacks. This was her specialty, this was what she'd been trained to do. Swarm fighting was what drives her into the deadly whirlwind of ravaging blades.

Wave after wave had forced him apart from the friends he'd been close to as he landed, leaving him to fight alongside an infantry squadron he'd just barely avoided the shots of in a narrow corridor, far too narrow for Zord combat. When they saw that he was aiming for the Ohm too, they'd spread into formation and fired at each other's backs.
If he'd had time to think, he would feel discouraged about the odds, but a splattering of blood against his back prevented that train of thought from setting off. With one lucky swipe and spray of poison, the guard watching his back had died---and if Billy hadn't followed his instincts to the ground and rolled back up with his best shots, he would've met the same fate just then.
Just like that, the woman who'd told them all a lovely joke to keep their spirits up had died. He flipped over the grunt with her blood on its claw and twisted the lance down, shooting at a Grenaider that was just lobbing acid at the others. Great. It was still flying, they were still in massive trouble.
"Go!" If he could feel anything other than dread and determination as he leapt and twisted and sliced, he'd reflect on how he felt like he'd brought a dinner fork to a gunfight.

Re: GROUND FIGHTERS A (OHM)
As the soldiers focused on firing at the forward line of Ohm Grunts, they didn't see the incoming bombardment of acid from the Grenadiers hiding behind the front line, threatening to destroy the entire group of GIA soldiers.
But just as the Grenadiers' shots began descending, a bright, shimmering field surrounded the GIA troopers, deflecting the enemy fire.
Grandmaster Cargn Thane, Battle-Brother of the Grey Knights, stood behind them, his Warding Staff held high, emanating a powerful psychic force field as arcs of psychic energy surrounded him. The soldiers, surprised but ultimately reinvigorated by the sight, began fighting back against the Ohm with renewed energy.
Cargn dropped the field, raising a hand towards the oncoming Ohm, unleashing a torrent of electrical arcs of psychic energy, tearing through numerous Grunts and Grenadiers as they approached.
The psychic strain Cargn was feeling from unleashing such a devastating barrage was evident on his face, but he continued to fight on regardless.

Re: GROUND FIGHTERS A (OHM)
Kang ignored the bodies littering the ground, the scent of blood heavy in the air, and the screams, and focused on a group of Grunts he could see nearby facing off against a few unfamiliar aliens. He drew his plasma pistol, carefully aimed, and took out the leg of one before moving forward, continuing to shoot.
The Grunt immediately turned on him, as well as a few of its fellows, giving the aliens the chance to finish off the rest. Smiling grimly, the bozak put the pistol back in its holster and drew his sword; blades were much easier to use in close quarters.
"Come on, you bastards."
It didn't take long for them to reach him, or for him to kill the one he'd already wounded. He shoved any thoughts of Kali, who had already run off to find a decent sniping position, to the back of his mind, and got to work.

Serenity 1/2
Yet as he looked out Serenity's viewport to the battle raging below, he had to admit he had never seen anything like the hell raging on the ground and in the air of this alien world. The armies he had faced, no matter how dedicated or fanatical to their cause or how filled with hate towards their enemies, were still human and therefore driven by understandable human cruelties. The things being fought on this dusty moon reminded him more of a storm he had seen on the ice world Beylix, a relentless wave of destruction that did its level best to smash all in front of it like the fist of an angry god, unstoppable and awe inspiring in its sheer inhuman wrath.
Well, Malcolm had not been one to feel awe for gods in a long time, and he hadn't ever seen a storm go down from bullets. The Ohm did. No matter how numberless, powerful, smart, and seemingly unstoppable they were, at the end of the day they were just as much animals as anyone else Mal had met, and that meant he could kill them just the same. Just in this case, he didn't need to feel bad about it.
"Major," he said back to the uniformed officer he'd been doing his level best to ignore outside any mission related talk. The sheer volume of nervous chatter that had been coming from the man's mouth marked him as a rookie on his first real battle command. Really it was just Mal's luck to get stuck with some green blue blood's son. At least the need for him to fly Serenity in Wash's absence meant he had a good excuse to ignore him. "Any particular spot you'd like me to drop you and your boys off? Because I'm thinking enemy anti-air isn't going to look kindly on us taking in the scenery."
As if on cue, a bolt of burning blue white fire came roaring at the soaring Firefly, and Mal banked the controls sharp, rolling his baby out of harm with decidedly less grace than Wash might have, but still managing to avoid a short and agonizing trip to the ground. If the good Major was sent into the bulkhead on the other side of the bridge, well Mal had told him to strap himself in. While the man collected himself, Mal rotated the VTOL engines down to burn some sky between himself and the big ugly obsidian beetle throwing death at him.
"T-two clicks to the North, zone C-45, on the beacons. If we d-don't get reinforcements there the entire west flank could collapse and then-"
"Yeah yeah, the whole Gorram war gets lost. This ain't my first dance son, now hold onto something this time." Having already found the zone on the maps uploaded to Serenity's database, Mal checked the sensors to find the beacons letting him know where he was supposed to land, presuming it hadn't already been swamped so that all was waiting for them were Ohm. Knowing his luck, there was a good chance that was the case. Oh well, it wasn't like he was getting paid to be safe.

She found her perch, wishing for Grosk for a moment as she tucked herself into cover. She would need to multi-task in order to make certain nothing managed to sneak up on her. The GIA snipers she had found and fallen in with were certainly a relief, but she barely knew them. Merely kept an ear on their unit commander for switching targets or issues that might become more apparent.
Kali took a breathe, relaxing into the simple pattern. Line up the shot, take the shot, reassess the threat. Line up the shot, take the shot, reassess the threat. She kept an eye on her father, making certain that he and his companions were not overwhelmed or blindsided by something more subtle than the average creature currently occupying the field.
This was her element, the place that she could occupy comfortably. It might be a rifle she was holding, rather than the wood and cord she was used to, but it was her element. Her place.
Snipers were often small, anyway, none of the GIA snipers had even questioned her age.

The evacuees needed to be guided along to their ships and general order had to be maintained. GIA forces were quickly being overwhelmed in the face of panicked citizens, fighting for places on the evacuation ships.
Could the crew help restore order?

ENGINEERING
NPCS: Everyone.
There were multiple massive shield generators that were providing shielding around the city all the way up into the atmosphere to the Bleedgate. Said shields were taking a pounding, and needed all the mad scientist jury-rigging they could get.
There were also transports that needed fixing, and thanks to the GIA tech being similar to what actual tech there was back on Stacy, the crew's engineers were just the ones to do it.
[ooc: Bugs getting through so the engineers have to fend them off will happen in stage 2. For now, establish your guys there, talking, and fixing. Subthreaded. After establishing a group around a particular generator, try to stick to posting orders so no one gets left out.]

MASH UNIT - MEDICAL STAFF
NPCS: Everyone
There was a MASH tent set up with as advanced equipment as could be portable, brought to the planet by the GIA. After triage, soldiers were being patched up to send back out to battle or up to the ships, depending on how badly they were injured. Injured evacuees were being treated as well.
The beleaguered medical staff here needed all the help they could get.
Before long, the crew of the Trans9 might start showing up among the injured.
[ooc: Subthreaded doctoring, of npcs and crew. Injured crew can start showing up here but only if they were injured in a stage 1 thread. If they were injured during stage 2, they'd go to the Stage 2 medical thread.]

Ground fighters B (CATASTROPHISTS) [Stage 2]
NPCs: Karl
So far, evacuations were still proceeding, but there was about to be a new complication in the works.
It started with an explosion up above as a ship crashed into another and both slammed into another part of the city in a fireball.
"Sabotage!" cried a GIA officer into his comm as he listened to his headset. "Catastrophists! They're among the refugees! They're saying it was sabotage, they got one message out before the core was destroyed--"
He was cut off by a bald, purple woman in dirty rags, not unlike the other refugees. She cried out joyously, "The end comes! It smiles on us!"
The explosion killed the officer and ten other people gathered around her instantly and left others horribly injured.
"The end comes!" another cried person in the crowd.
"The end comes!" cried yet another.
Those that let out the cries started drawing weapons and firing on other refugees. Gender, sex, age, species--it didn't matter to them. They were trying to kill everyone indiscriminately, and inspire fear in those already afraid.
"Catastrophists!" shrieked a man in the crowd before he was shot, and if the crowd wasn't already in a panic, they would be now.
They had to be stopped.

ENGINEERING [Stage 2]
NPCs: Everyone.
The shields could scarcely take anymore strain. The engineers would have to pull out all the stops to fix them.
What's more, now occasional holes near the generators themselves were allowing Ohm through. With the fighting forces spread so thin, there were hardly any soldiers around to defend them, leaving the poor engineers to try to fend them off themselves.
[ooc: Subthreaded. After establishing a group around a particular generator, try to stick to posting orders so no one gets left out.]

Cold Bomb
MASH UNIT - MEDICAL STAFF [Stage 2]
NPCS: Karl
Now it was likely even Trans9 crew members were being sent in to the MASH tent. Worse and worse injuries were coming in, and there were nowhere near enough hands to tend to them all. Tough choices would have to be made, and lives would be changed by them.
[ooc: Catastrophists are due to attack the medical tent but that will happen by them commenting in. Subthreaded doctoring. Obviously, injured crewman can tag in, regardless of whether they were injured in part 1 or 2.]
