Enchanted Aquatica---the Prom [WIDE OPEN Y'ALL]

The day had finally arrived for her big event, and Starfire couldn't be happier---or more nervous, actually. She was certainly not an expert on the inner workings of a prom, but it couldn't be too terribly complicated, right? As long as the people could eat, dance, and talk, it should be a reasonable success.

With that in mind, her decorations sprung from her mind into the large dome all around her, transforming a grey Sensorium into a beautiful underwater world, one with clear waters and free from the possibility of a shark attack.

The first change was the scent of the air, shifting into the comforting salty scent of the seas. Then the ground beneath her feet became a hardened sandstone, maintaining the gritty texture while remaining easy to walk upon---except for the smooth dance floor, of course. The grey dome transformed into a flowing bluish-green, rippling all around with fish of all colors passing in the background. Some of the 'sky' faded into a violet tone over the dance floor, lit by glowing circular lights in every color. Suspended in midair, they almost looked like motionless fireflies, though they sometimes swayed in tune with songs.

Tables arose from coral in all colors, rising from the ground and twisting to provide a flattened surface on the very top---rounded ones for guests, and long tables off to the side containing shell-bowls of food. Chairs were large floating clam shells with well cushioned interiors, some large enough to hold two people. More comfortable spongy places to sit were also littered across the area, notably by the large shell-shaped enclosure that was the promised swimming pool. It too was lit by the floating lights, providing what she hoped was a romantic atmosphere.

Finally, the glowing stage above the dance floor couldn't help but attract attention with its chairs. Six royal thrones and one plush chair of all colors directly in the middle rested in the back of the stage, leaving the front open for announcements. Just off to the side of the stage stood the DJ's table, with even that machine painted to match the soft underwater glow of the scenery.

Everything finally seemed pleasing to Starfire. With one last change, dressing herself in the formal attire of the prom, she sent out the signal to everyone and waited. She hoped they would have a wonderful time.

His lips turned up in a smile as he looked her over with a discerning eye. "You as well. In such a garment you bring back memories of the sky in Hellfire Peninsula."

He paused for a moment, thinking of the image that the name 'Hellfire' invoked. "It is a compliment," he assured her.

Sliding back the sleeve on one of his arms, he produced a ring of light blue and white flowers that had been woven together. "I might fail to get most of these 'traditions' right, but I did not forget this one."

Nokosi held out a hand, palm up and motioned for her own.

Kaya was about to object to looking like something with the words "hellfire" in them, but once she was assured it was a good thing, she relaxed.

And here, he actually did get her to blush. She expected to have fun with Nokosi, but she never expected him to actually follow the traditions the prom brought about. She brought it over her wrist, and, without thinking about it, she gave him a hug.

"Lead the way," she said, taking his hand.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
He returned the embrace and curled his fingers around her smaller hand.

"You are right, though. I do want to explore the setting, as there was only one area I was ever able to travel undersea, to. Though given your own affinity for all forms of water, I would say that I am not the only one who wishes to find out what sights await us in such a place."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh definitely not," Kaya said. "I want to see everything. I wish I had an extra pair of eyes so I could see all of this around us. This is the first time I've ever been to a gathering like this: the closest I've gotten besides this were the balls at Ba Sing Se where being a part of the GAang team meant you could be treated well."

She nodded. "You know me well!"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, how lucky you were! I know of such balls and I have seen many a noble man and woman dressed in their people's finest to attend such things, but Humans and High Elves take their nobility very seriously. I have been kicked out numerous times." More than he could count, really. Luckily curiosity hadn't gotten him killed. Yet.

"It is fantastic news that you wish to see everything here. I am very much looking forward to spending this night with you." He managed to tear his eyes from the school of colorful fish that swam past just beyond the contours of the wall and redirect them to her.

"What is it that you would like to do first, Kaya?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Is that right?" She said, looking amused. "Somehow I'm having a hard time imagining you at a ball with a bunch of stuffy aristocrats. But I'd love to know what would get you kicked out of a such an event!"

Chances are it would be pretty hilarious. The thing about spending the night with her, however, definitely hit home. She had to hide a very satisfied, silly smile forming on her face.

"Um, let's start with the refreshments, and after the festivities, we should definitely dance. You do know how, right?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Very simple, really. Not being of noble blood. It is something that is very important, apparently." Okay, and well he didn't even try to dress the part, either. Though there were those few times that..."I do not think that I looked the part of a noble very convincingly," he confessed with a laugh.

Her question about dancing, though, was an interesting one. No, he wasn't very good at dancing but since he had the blessing of preparation time, he'd spent many of his waking hours in the Media Library, scouring through dance style after dance style after dance style. He finally found one that followed his own heart.

"I will admit that I am not very good, but I do know of a dance." Somewhat.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
"That's a big deal in your world too then." Kaya grimaced. "I have to admit that I was only able to go to balls in my world because I was with the GAang: otherwise they would have been as inaccessible to me as they would be to many others. But like the way you look, honestly: it gives you distinction!"

Yes, there was little doubt that Kaya appreciated how independent Nokosi was, how he went with the wind and did what he liked rather than force himself to be held by other people's conventions. True, he took it to extremes, but he would learn how to respect personal space soon enough, right?

"What kind of dance?"

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Swing dancing!" He said excitedly. "It is from an 'Earth'." One of the many he'd heard about. "It is very upbeat and energetic and looked very, very fun. There were many different styles so I asked Ronnae to practice with me so that I may get used to the footwork. I did not make it very far past the intermediate steps, though."

Which was fine enough. The last thing he needed to be doing was flipping girls around and sending them flying, no matter how funny it might end up being.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Swing dancing?" Now he definitely had her attention: anything that involved movement, steps, rhythm, sounded like something she wanted a part of. "Now I wish I had looked this up with you. It sounds like something we both will enjoy! I may have to ad lib a bit and let you lead, since its more something you know about, but you definitely have me there!"

Trust in this Nokosi: flipping Kaya wouldn't be getting a negative response. It was exactly the kind of thing alley up her alley.

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-07 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is very much so. I think, if you enjoy it, perhaps we might continue learning together? Ronnae as well, though I do not think it is Billy's 'cup of tea', as they say."

Even so, it was something he'd probably pay to see.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-07 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
She giggled. "It's hard for me to think that any kind of dancing is Billy's cup of tea!" She grinned, imagining Billy trying to decipher why people moved a certain way when they danced oir something.

"I'll try not to slow you down."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not think that will be a problem, given your skills. If anything, I think that I will have to make sure that I do not slack. I cannot go easy on you and forgo making it challenging." The corner of his lips raised into a smirk and he glanced back towards the wide, open area that already had a few people dancing in it.

"If I did it would be terribly boring for you, I would think." He paused, then turned to look at her once again. "Shall we be off, then?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Look Nokosi," Kaya said, smiling, "Just move me how you would anyone else, ok? I will use everything in the sort of dancing I'm used to, ok? Don't expect me to fall far behind the ind of people you usually know."

She laughed. "Yes, let;s go."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
He laughed and shook his head as they set off around the sensorium. "Knowing you? I do not expect anything of the sort. I expect you to best them."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
She grinned. "Well good, because that's exactly what I intend to do anyway. This might be a hobby, but its one that I take pretty seriously!"
