Enchanted Aquatica---the Prom [WIDE OPEN Y'ALL]

The day had finally arrived for her big event, and Starfire couldn't be happier---or more nervous, actually. She was certainly not an expert on the inner workings of a prom, but it couldn't be too terribly complicated, right? As long as the people could eat, dance, and talk, it should be a reasonable success.

With that in mind, her decorations sprung from her mind into the large dome all around her, transforming a grey Sensorium into a beautiful underwater world, one with clear waters and free from the possibility of a shark attack.

The first change was the scent of the air, shifting into the comforting salty scent of the seas. Then the ground beneath her feet became a hardened sandstone, maintaining the gritty texture while remaining easy to walk upon---except for the smooth dance floor, of course. The grey dome transformed into a flowing bluish-green, rippling all around with fish of all colors passing in the background. Some of the 'sky' faded into a violet tone over the dance floor, lit by glowing circular lights in every color. Suspended in midair, they almost looked like motionless fireflies, though they sometimes swayed in tune with songs.

Tables arose from coral in all colors, rising from the ground and twisting to provide a flattened surface on the very top---rounded ones for guests, and long tables off to the side containing shell-bowls of food. Chairs were large floating clam shells with well cushioned interiors, some large enough to hold two people. More comfortable spongy places to sit were also littered across the area, notably by the large shell-shaped enclosure that was the promised swimming pool. It too was lit by the floating lights, providing what she hoped was a romantic atmosphere.

Finally, the glowing stage above the dance floor couldn't help but attract attention with its chairs. Six royal thrones and one plush chair of all colors directly in the middle rested in the back of the stage, leaving the front open for announcements. Just off to the side of the stage stood the DJ's table, with even that machine painted to match the soft underwater glow of the scenery.

Everything finally seemed pleasing to Starfire. With one last change, dressing herself in the formal attire of the prom, she sent out the signal to everyone and waited. She hoped they would have a wonderful time.

"Is that right?" She said, looking amused. "Somehow I'm having a hard time imagining you at a ball with a bunch of stuffy aristocrats. But I'd love to know what would get you kicked out of a such an event!"

Chances are it would be pretty hilarious. The thing about spending the night with her, however, definitely hit home. She had to hide a very satisfied, silly smile forming on her face.

"Um, let's start with the refreshments, and after the festivities, we should definitely dance. You do know how, right?"

"Very simple, really. Not being of noble blood. It is something that is very important, apparently." Okay, and well he didn't even try to dress the part, either. Though there were those few times that..."I do not think that I looked the part of a noble very convincingly," he confessed with a laugh.

Her question about dancing, though, was an interesting one. No, he wasn't very good at dancing but since he had the blessing of preparation time, he'd spent many of his waking hours in the Media Library, scouring through dance style after dance style after dance style. He finally found one that followed his own heart.

"I will admit that I am not very good, but I do know of a dance." Somewhat.

"That's a big deal in your world too then." Kaya grimaced. "I have to admit that I was only able to go to balls in my world because I was with the GAang: otherwise they would have been as inaccessible to me as they would be to many others. But like the way you look, honestly: it gives you distinction!"

Yes, there was little doubt that Kaya appreciated how independent Nokosi was, how he went with the wind and did what he liked rather than force himself to be held by other people's conventions. True, he took it to extremes, but he would learn how to respect personal space soon enough, right?

"What kind of dance?"

"Swing dancing!" He said excitedly. "It is from an 'Earth'." One of the many he'd heard about. "It is very upbeat and energetic and looked very, very fun. There were many different styles so I asked Ronnae to practice with me so that I may get used to the footwork. I did not make it very far past the intermediate steps, though."

Which was fine enough. The last thing he needed to be doing was flipping girls around and sending them flying, no matter how funny it might end up being.

"Swing dancing?" Now he definitely had her attention: anything that involved movement, steps, rhythm, sounded like something she wanted a part of. "Now I wish I had looked this up with you. It sounds like something we both will enjoy! I may have to ad lib a bit and let you lead, since its more something you know about, but you definitely have me there!"

Trust in this Nokosi: flipping Kaya wouldn't be getting a negative response. It was exactly the kind of thing alley up her alley.

"It is very much so. I think, if you enjoy it, perhaps we might continue learning together? Ronnae as well, though I do not think it is Billy's 'cup of tea', as they say."

Even so, it was something he'd probably pay to see.

She giggled. "It's hard for me to think that any kind of dancing is Billy's cup of tea!" She grinned, imagining Billy trying to decipher why people moved a certain way when they danced oir something.

"I'll try not to slow you down."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not think that will be a problem, given your skills. If anything, I think that I will have to make sure that I do not slack. I cannot go easy on you and forgo making it challenging." The corner of his lips raised into a smirk and he glanced back towards the wide, open area that already had a few people dancing in it.

"If I did it would be terribly boring for you, I would think." He paused, then turned to look at her once again. "Shall we be off, then?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Look Nokosi," Kaya said, smiling, "Just move me how you would anyone else, ok? I will use everything in the sort of dancing I'm used to, ok? Don't expect me to fall far behind the ind of people you usually know."

She laughed. "Yes, let;s go."

[identity profile] nokosi.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
He laughed and shook his head as they set off around the sensorium. "Knowing you? I do not expect anything of the sort. I expect you to best them."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
She grinned. "Well good, because that's exactly what I intend to do anyway. This might be a hobby, but its one that I take pretty seriously!"
