starlightace: (!To have and to hold)

Dearly Beloved...

The City didn't have weather as most people knew it, but it was nonetheless a beautiful day - warm weather with a nice breeze, Stacy's sun-equivalent shining in the sky... almost as if it was reflecting the emotions of at least one of the ship's crew. In the middle of the Park, someone had set up a little white lattice archway amongst the hedgerows, decorated with ivy and roses and lilies that looked remarkably real (if they were, in fact, synthetic). In front of the arch were several rows of white chairs, more than enough for anyone who cared to show up.

It was a beautiful day for a wedding.

And frankly, Nanoha needed it. After the chaos and confusion; the rage and terror on Galilee... she didn't think she could ever forget that horrible sense of loss and emptiness when she'd thought that Fate was gone, if only for a day or so. But this would go a long way toward exorcising those demons - a day that she'd dreamed of for years.

Of course, she couldn't go greet anyone yet. She was in her wedding dress, after all! These things needed to be proper.

"It's the first one I've ever attended." Fairplay didn't count. That wasn't him. "We don't really go for the elaborate, drawn-out ceremonies. We like things simple."

"Simple's good," he said, "but this is nice every once in a while as well."

Cargn had a bit of a soft spot for this sort of thing.

"I'm told your mission didn't go quite as smoothly as expected. Good to see everyone made it back mostly in one piece."

Kang frowned. "That's an understatement. I'm glad to be off that damn planet, and I hope we never have reason to go back."

[identity profile] daemonomicon.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Our mission went much smoother," Cargn replied, slightly more serious, before continuing in a slightly hushed tone, "Though we were not without our share of unpleasant news. The Tapestry deigned to grant us a vision of an upcoming battle with the Ohm, one which will come sooner rather than later."

"...do you have an idea of how soon?" Kang asked, unable to help picking out his daughter in the crowd of people, by the snacks. He didn't want her thrown into battle with almost no preparation.

[identity profile] daemonomicon.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Several weeks to a month, at most," he said. "It's difficult to tell with such information. Likely enough time to allow these little distractions to alleviate the crew's anxiety, but I would suggest beginning preparations soon."

Though Cargn normally took a mostly hands-off approach with the crew, but this was bigger than normal.

He could feel it in his bones. There would indeed be sacrifices forced upon them this time.

Kang swore in Nerakese, crossing his arms over his chest. "Sooner rather than later. I'll see about getting my training class started back up, for all the good it'll do on such short notice."

He sat down next to Cargn, his tail curling around his feet, "One of my children woke up recently. She's only ten, about the same as a human child."

[identity profile] daemonomicon.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Unfortunate timing, then," Cargn replied in a tone that said he knew how much of an understatement that was.

"The vision included an image of a funeral. People will die this time. I suggest taking measures to ensure it isn't either your daughter or yourself we send off in that casket."

Not that Cargn necessarily needed to say that. Kang was smart enough to get such things done.
governorkang: (Well shit / Disgusting)

[personal profile] governorkang 2011-08-03 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Nodding, Kang muttered another curse. "We won't need caskets. There won't be anything left of our bodies."

[identity profile] daemonomicon.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"All the same," Cargn chuckled, though his voice was far from jovial. "Things will be changing soon. I can feel it."

He sighed quietly. Much as he accepted his duty, constantly playing the part of the storm raven wasn't exactly the most pleasant experience.

"We can at least allow them this," he added quietly, looking at the podium, where Nanoha and Fate would soon be married.

"Yes, especially after what happened on Galilee. Enough depressing talk, though, this is supposed to be a happy occasion," Kang snorted.

[identity profile] daemonomicon.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, that it is," Cargn chuckled, a bit more honestly this time. "I did manage to get my hands on some fine Rom-made liquor during the mission. Perhaps I'll drop some off at your tavern some time."

"Is it strong?" Kang asked, grinning. "You've probably seen my announcement already about the cactus juice and the dwarf spirits.

[identity profile] daemonomicon.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
"They're insectoid," Cargn replied. "Their stomachs can take more than ours. Of course it's strong."

Cargn doesn't buy cheap booze, Kang.
