Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

"I will rest with my eyes open, then," Arha said, her voice reserved. I trust none but my Sisters and remain watchful against all, was her carefully concealed and prompt answer. She did not like this meat-like couch and she did not like this humid beast-plant of a ship. Arha would sooner crawl into the great mouth of Shai-Hulud than trust any shape of a Thinking Machine.

"There is much wrong with this place," she said, her voice easy and yet tightly controlled. Only a Sister could find the hint of unease, the thread of fear, the second of hesitation. The alien curves and grotesque statue, the very warmth of the seat beneath her was repulsive, and yet she bore it. It could not be changed as of yet and survival was paramount.

We should keep our thoughts to ourselves, observe all around us, learn what they know and plan from there, came Ghani's response. It was probably the best thing to do. That way others wouldn't end up so wary.

"I know," Ghani smiled, gently patting Arha's arm in a reassuring manner. "We'll find a way to survive. As a Freman we can survive this." And as Bene Gesserit we can turn our situation to our advantage.

"This may be no desert," Arha said and her voice took on a thread of steel, "but you speak truth. As Fremen, we will survive." If we who are Bene Gesserit know anything, it is the art of situational advantage, she flashed back, her features softening into almost girlish amusement. Truth, also, that my thoughts are shared little with others. To observe is to learn.

"We shall have to find a place to call our own on this Abomination," Ghani stated, her gaze turning away from Ahra long enough to make note of those milling about.

You will be OK until we are able to find a quiet place for you to rest?

The body bends when the mind lets it. I am of the desert, I will be fine. It was a simple statement, twofold, one Bene Gesserit, the other Fremen. Both were in harmony. Arha let a slim smile touch her lips and knew this would be a difficult road ahead. Her glimpses into the future, incomplete as they were, did not need to show her such things. It had become apparent when she had underwent the agony.

But, like so many of her mothers, Arha would persevere. She had Fremen in her bloodline, after all. Her mother's father had been Fremen, and, now she could see in a moment of clarity, that her father, too had been Fremen, though she had been born on that small colony near Chapterhouse. She was truly Arha of the Sands, brought up in the sands, returned to the sands, and now? Now, she was taken from them again.

And she would persevere.
