Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

He whipped around, pointing a finger at Kate, probably right between her eyes. For the moment he completely ignored the android making emotional arguments to the shrinking girl.

"Maybe you should have your own head examined, woman. I was here asking for an explanation of why I was here when you and your friend came and projected your...whatever it was you felt for this other version of myself onto me, simply because we share the same face." He gritted his teeth, inside a feeling that this is all wrong beginning to grow, but he forced it down, continuing with his rant.

"Besides, with the way your 'more of a man' machine is walking around wearing my face, I don't see your need to project whatever it was you and this version of myself shared onto me."

His hand closed back into a fist that he dropped to his side. "So before you get snippy with me I suggest you try to remember that you and not I began this conversation."

His eyes slid to Jonas and Cassie and a quick flash of jealousy, jealousy that he didn't quite comprehend, reared its ugly head inside. A sort of confused expression flickered across his face for a moment before he shook his head, setting his features into that mask of annoyance again.

What was going on? Who were these people? And why did seeing them give him this queer dejà vu?

Kate didn't back away from his finger, even if part of her wanted to slap it away from her face. She kept her own arms folded in front of her, and her whole stance suggesting anger and defiance.

She snarked back, getting more pissed off with his attitude by the minute, "Excuse us for thinking you were our friend, easy to make a mistake. But you're not much of anything are you?"

She then added, "Fine, you're here because Stacy, the ship, drafted you like the rest of us, and she needs our help. Some of us have already gone on one of her missions."

Oh thank goodness, it worked. Jonas cradled her close against his chest and stroked her hair.

"[It is all right,]" he said softly. Technically, that was a lie, but it was one of those lies that everyone told when there were bigger matters at hand. And there were bigger matters -- namely, that listening to Kate and Nathaniel argue could not be good for Cassie's state of mind right now. Jonas caught Kate's eye, nodded down at Cassie, and jerked his head toward the door; indicating his plans and then moving to carry them out.

Cassie needed to be elsewhere right now. Jonas was going to see to it that it happened.

Cassie wanted to tell Jonas to stop. Even if he didn't remember, even if he was just hurting her more and more, Cassie still wanted to be near Iron Lad. She wanted to see him.

She also knew that was a bad idea.

"I'm sorry, Jonas." She said, curling up against him. "I love you too. I'm sorry." She just happened to love Iron Lad as well.

Ignoring the leaving pair, he shot back his retort at Kate instead. "Well perhaps in future, you'll learn not to attach your sentiment for the face of a certain person to another wholly different person simply because they share the same face. Especially, as you so cleverly pointed out, when alternate universe variants are such a distinct possibility."

He ignored the last part of her jab, barely even registering her explanations. "Have you not noticed my complete and utter lack of interest in anything you have to say? Why are you still here? Your friends left. You stayed to what? Prove your point?"

Nate's eyes narrowed at her slightly and he had to push away another flash of guilt that he didn't understand. Why did he even care?

"Well we didn't know until you said so. Had to make sure." God, no wonder he wanted to be different. She could already see how this asshole would grow up to be Kang.

Kate then replied back sharply, "I stayed because you demanded an explanation so I was giving one. But I guess I'll leave you to go bark at Stacy. Good luck with getting anything from her beside cryptic answers and tentacles bearing needles. Bet you'll be the first to get one of her threatened Punishments at the rate you're going." He wanted to be that way, that's fine. She knew she could check up with Jonas and Cassie in a little bit. Give her time to calm down.

In the meantime, Kate was going to head to the Sensoriums for a hard archery practice without another word to Nathaniel. Likely imagining Kang's smug superior face as the target.

His expression remained hard and aggravated as she stalked off. When she was gone, he ran a hand through his hair, leaning back against the wall frustratedly. It seemed that there was no peace anywhere. The animosity didn't bother him so much. He was at least used to that. It was the fact that that had known a version of him before. And the fact that when he looked at them, it felt like there was some part of himself he was greatly in need of.

Shaking his head, he pushed off the wall, moving out away from the Obs Deck to perhaps find a quite place to think. And if he was lucky, to find something to eat, he was starving. Shaking off the last vestiges of his guilt, chalking them up to his obnoxious insecurities, he walked off toward the mess hall.
