Newbie Meet n' Greet

For the newbies, there are people waiting for them in the Obs Deck. A whole gaggle of people. Behind them is the nasty statue, and the beautiful sight through the windows of the stars streaming past and the swirling vortex of collars that was interdimensional travel.

There are more questions than answers, but the crew is willing to help, especially the Command Staff and greeters.

Ignoring her momentary levitation, Yoshimi nods vaguely. "Yeah, alien abductions kind of ruin the day, don't they?" She sighs, staring across the room without really seeing much of anything. She looks back at him, deciding that she appreciates his apparent reticence and finds herself feeling blunt. "I'm Yoshimi."

It's not apparent reticence, it's genuine reticence. Marcus isn't exactly the chatty type. "My day was already ruined." Marcus says dryly, still watching the room. "Marcus. I'd say nice to meet you, but..." he trails off, letting everything around them fill in that blank.

Yoshimi understands entirely, so her expression is rather withering and internally directed at the mastermind (coughcoughStacy) who orchestrated this whole mess. "Yeah, it... it kind of sucks to meet you, really. At least you don't talk too much, though; there's this one girl over there, same height as me who spewed words like some kind of auctioneer. Nice, but way too exuberant for the situation at hand." She trails into silence, staring vaguely at the floor.

"Haven't met her." Marcus says with a shrug. Personally, he didn't really want to, either; he and chatty people didn't always get along. (And she could have probably just said 'short' instead of 'the same height as me', but he wasn't going to point that out.) "So, where are you from?" he continues awkwardly, feeling a need to continue the conversation.

"If you don't like talking, it's a good idea not to." She realizes how awkward she feels without somewhere to put her hands; she obviously doesn't have any pockets, and messing with her hair just makes her feel vapid. She settles for folding her arms across her chest in the typical 'I feel uncomfortable with this situation and don't have anything to do with my hands that doesn't feel peculiar' pose. "Tokyo, Japan, actually. Year 2083. Robots and an overabundance of technology, glee and rejoicing," she says sounding more than a bit cynical.

"If you don't like talking, it's a good idea not to." It is slowly becoming apparent to Yoshimi that she has absolutely nothing to do with her hands, which is making her levels of discomfort sky rocket. Due to her lack of pockets and her personal insistence that playing with one's hair makes one look vapid and ridiculous, she assumes for the typical 'I feel uncomfortable and have nothing to do with my hands which is making me infinitely more uncomfortable' pose, folding her arms across her chest. "Tokyo, Japan, actually. Year 2083. Robots and an overabundance of technology. Glee and rejoice," she says, her tone more than a bit cynical. "You?"

"20--18. Abundance of robots, lots of dead people, nuclear winter." Marcus says, only pausing slightly at the date. He wins the 'coming from the bad place' award, no doubt about it... although he looks a bit nervous at the comment about robots.

"Well," she begins, hesitating slightly. "You win the 'coming from the bad place' award, I think. I don't think I'll ever get used to the different dimensions thing, though... did you know that there are fictional characters here? People like Luna Lovegood and Superman. It's bizarre."

[identity profile] tasted-death.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"... are there?" Marcus asks, raising one eyebrow. "And I thought today couldn't get any damn weirder." he continues, slightly exasperated.

"I don't know who the first person you said is, but Superman is here? Really?" Oh, Marcus. There isn't a lot of pop culture in prison, and he wasn't really given to reading fiction before he died. (He's more of a Nietzsche guy anyway.)

"Well, I don't know. I haven't seen him. It was a theoretical example. That'd be pretty cool, though." Yoshimi ponders the possibility of Superman being somewhere on Stacy for several minutes before shaking her head. "Nah, he's Superman, he wouldn't let himself get abducted." From her tone, it is easily deducible that she finds her logic to be infallible.
